The essential disrict championship. Pikeville travels to Johnson Co. to take on the much improved Tigers. If Pikeville doesn't pick it up they will have all they can handle. Thoughts and predictions.

I'm going to go with Paintsville in a tight one.

Both teams have played pretty tough non district games. I have watched both teams play and think that Paintsville will struggle with stopping Harmon for 4 qtrs. I will take Pikeville in a high scoring game, where the the team with the ball last has a chance to win........48-42

Throw the records out the window in this one. They don't mean a thing when these 2 get together.
From what I've heard Pikeville's defense is down this year. I'll take the Tigers in a shootout.
48-35

Battle for 1st in District 8 its going to be a barn burner. I will give the edge to Paintsville because its a home game.

Panthers must try different offense with emphasis on players other than Harmon. Coaches have worn him out.

I think Paintsville's speed will be a problem for Pikeville, Paintsville by 7 in a high scoring game.

I think Pikeville will pull this one out. They should be able to stop the pass like they've done all year. Stopping the run will be the key. Paintsville doesn't pose as big of a threat as some of the other teams Pikeville has had problems stopping. Their backs are quick and agile, but they are smaller. Pikeville's problem on defense has been stopping the bigger backs like Lee, Crowder, Setser.

This game could go either way! But with Paintsville playing home I'll give the edge to Paintsville by 7. Good luck Tigers!!

Paintsville by 14.

Actually, it was Craynon that did the lion's share of the damage against the Panthers. From what I saw Friday, Pikeville looked better defensively between the tackles than on the corners. The Panthers were slow to react to runs bounced outside.
Paintsville has one weapon (which P-burg doesn't) that could be very effective vs. Pikeville. Deaton is a better running (than passing) QB. If he'll pull up stakes quicker in the pocket and head downfield, he could get a lot of yards Friday.
Pikeville needs to find someone in addition to Harmon offensively. Teams are keying on him and Pikeville has not gone to anyone else.

Is Deaton or is the Brown kid the QB? I thought Brown started at Raceland last week but had to be taken out because of how he was playing, but on the other hand Deaton didn't get the offense going either. It will be interesting to see who Kinner decides to play at QB. My guess is Deaton.
I think this is a very interesting matchup this week. In the end I think Pikeville will win this one with ball control.

KHSAA's stats don't even show A. Craynon for the Pburg vs. Painstsville game. The only Craynon stats there are for J. Craynon w/ 2 carries for 0 yards and 6.5 tackles. Am I missing something in your statement about Craynon doing "the lion's share of the damage against the Panthers" statement?
I have to agree with your statement about finding someone in addition to Harmon. Harmon's an awesome player- but one man can only do so much.

Offense needs to deversify. Defense needs to hit and wrap up. Eliminate arm tackeling. Coaches motivate the kids.

After seeing both play against Prestonsburg, I'll take Paintsville but this will be a good one.
Best of luck to both!

Neither team is very good, which should make it at the least a good game. Pikeville has had no defense when needed. That should make the difference in the game. Turnovers into pts could change the game in the other direction... Pride also a factor for both schools. Sounding better, I might have to go.....
