Why does Johnson Central play smaller schools?
#1
Does anyone know why Johnson does not play the people they used too. It seems like every non district game they play a smaller school except for Shelby Co. I am not putting them down by no means they are a great team I just think they would be better prepared for the playoffs if they played. Teams like Tates Creek, Henry Clay, Madison Central or GRC even. These are the teams they used to play weather they were in the distrist or not.
Wondering if anyone knew why ?????

Scheduling got much tougher since KHSAA went to 6 classes. Thats why above average teams have problems finding tough opponents outside the mountains these days. Plus gas prices really hurts a team like Johnson Central, because their simply isn't enough teams in eastern Kentucky that can give them a challenge.

That makes sense

If you look at the teams they have played and have on the schedule you'd know why they play them. I made a previous post in another thread that gave a breakdown of each team...JC is forced to play whoever will play them.

This thread cant go anywhere but negative.

My thoughts exactly. Got that vibe from the initial post.

I suppose the thread could go negative, but it doesn't have to.

It's simple geography. The closest equal size school to Central is Ashland and the Tomcats are in the same district. The next closest same-sized schools are also in-district.

There are literally NO 6A size high schools east of Winchester in the state.

For the Eagles to play schools of the same size, looong trips become necessary. And that, as BlackcatAlum pointed out, is problematic because those schools don't need to travel to fill their schedules.

There's precious little Johnson Central can do about any of this.

A better question is when did we go out of our way to play GRC, Madison Central, et cetera? Those teams were always in our district or the opposing district when we used to play them. They also used to beat us down on a pretty regular basis for most of the last 20 years; it was hard to build a program playing a murderous schedule game in and game out . And it's not as if Breathitt County, Hazard, and Belfry are exactly pushovers. All those teams beat schools Central's size on a regular basis.

Central plays a plenty good enough schedule. School size does not equate good or bad football teams. They play 3A teams that are strong like Breathitt and Belfry and Hazard is always good. There are pluses and minuses of playing too many good teams. It worked for Central (Louisville) last year, but it can backfire if you don't win some games and build confidence, or if you get a bunch of players injured.

Bottom line is that schools that use to schedule them and beat them don't want to be beaten by JC now. When your program isn't consistant everyone wants a piece of you. For the last 10 years JC's program has improved more than any program in the mountains. Now that JC can compete with these so called elite programs you can't pay them to come play. I'm sure the economy has something to do with it also, but not that much.
#12
It's not about "scheduling these teams", these were teams in JC's district! It's also not about these schools being afraid of losing to JC now, I am willing to bet that if all these schools didnt have to play JC back when they could beat up on, they would have chosen not to.

In my personal opinion I think this isn't a bad deal playing Hazard and I understand why the game is being played. Hazard in the past two years has been in the top #5 in their class. They have had a traditionally good program in the past few years. I think Hazard saw this as a good chance to try their hand against an elite program in EKY. With this I think that JC has the chance to play a potentially good football team and if worst comes to worst JC can get good work in for the upcoming games. In the future I would be interested to see JC try to schedule a team like a Trinity, St. X, Lex Cath, or maybe even a Male. I think this could present an interesting matchup. As for the thread I think there is nothing wrong wtih JC playing this game against Hazard.

Why does one sign up under a new account as a Eagle fan when they are clearly not? Trust me you're not fooling anyone with your "new" user name. There's only been one member on here questioning JC's schedule and he was a tiger fan. It's amazing what some people will do to bash a program. This looks like to me it's a case of if you can't beat them on the field get on the net and hide behind a computer with a bogus user name and stir something up. It's amazing what some people will stoop to.

I clearly remember myself questioning JC's schedule. I am a Tiger fan, so are you thinking that "OSE" is me?

Can someone tell me whats wrong with JC's schedule that everyone has to question?

I figured that you would be the first one to defend Old School Eagle and this thread.

I'm not defending anyone. I have NO CLUE who OSE is or you for that matter and don't care. I don't loose sleep or go out of my way to just figure out who someone is on here like some people do. Judging from the number of post you have. You prolly changed names yourself.

Save it. I think the same way of your posts and opinions as you do of my Avatar so don't bother. I just find it interesting that you chimed in on this subject.

Sometimes smaller schools are better than larger schools. You guys are going to eat your doo doo after Hazard comes over Friday night and plays your ***** off or maybe even upsets you guys. I seriously doubt if Johnson Central could beat Beechwood this year. We'll see if JCHS really is the Beast of the East this weekend.

Delete it....lol I chimed in because you were slinging blame at a Tiger fan. I have NEVER question their schedule and I agree with the majority of the post about playing quality teams no matter what class they are. It's best to not accuse unless you know for sure. And trust me. My opinion is thought of more highly than your Avatar...lol. I'm pretty sure he wouldn't like the fact that you are using him in that manner either.

No one has said that just because your larger guarantees you a win so I don't know where you got that from. I know Hazard is a great team and Johnson Central will be out for a war on Friday night. I promise you that Johnson Central won't overlook Hazard despite what a couple of morons say on here. You can't judge an entire fan base on what a couple of people have been saying on here. The entire team at Johnson Central knows that the Hazard game will be a battle.

School size makes no difference. It is tradition rich programs that should be on the schedule. Look at Beechwood ! Thats single A and they could compete with ALMOST anyone in the state!!!!!

Coach Booth,
Your pic looks really similar to Chuke Williams Big Grin

IMO JC could beat beechwood, would be a great game tho.
