I have just been informed that the JC vs. SHS game will not be played on Friday. This is due to the major storms to hit the area this week. Many in the Louisville are still without power and Shawnee has not been in school at all and all practices and game have been cancelled.
09-16-2008, 11:23 PM
So do you know if they plan on just rescheduling?
09-16-2008, 11:24 PM
As of right now they haven't even talked about a make up date. I'll keep everyone posted.
09-16-2008, 11:30 PM
Well that stinks...was looking for another win..

Not fair to seniors. Why didn't Shawnee just come to JCHS and play there.

No school and no practice. I would think no school would equal no extracurricular activities.

Well that is the very worst news i have heard in some time...will this go down as a win for central because Shawnee will forefit?
09-17-2008, 02:00 PM
well..... in most schools it would.... but one must consider the source. During the Winter, some schools miss school(alot), yet roundball is practiced without fail and games are played on schedule.... priorities!
09-17-2008, 02:25 PM
Is there not a possibility that the game could be played at JCHS?

You would think so..How does it work if they dont play friday?...do they have to reschedule?
09-17-2008, 02:38 PM
Well... I wouldn't see any reason not to play it here.... but the previous posts would suggest Shawnee has not practiced all week due to the power failures... surely it will be re-scheduled.

First, maybe we should consider the suffering of the people of Louisville and much of the western part of the state. The proper authorities will either cancel or reschedule the game as is appropriate. Worrying about wins and forfeits should not be considered when people are hurting. I am as big a HS football fan as there is, but lets keep this whole situation in the proper perspective. Last year, almost one year ago to the day, two boys from Shelby Valley were seriously injured in a wreck and the game against Belfry had to be postponed a day. No one was worried about anything except the boys health, and thankfully they are both back playing after long periods of recovery.

Some people should be ashamed for insuating that this was not fair for Johnson Central.
NO WAY should Shawnee even consider having to come to Paintsville this week. It was scheduled for Louisville and if it is to be made up or played at an alternate site it should be close to the home team.
Storm damage that bad and all some can think about is there team won't get a chance to play another team that they believe they would beat easily. Where is the compasion?
Really people.

I think it's hilarious how this thread has been turned around to shame people who are wanting to watch their team play. I mean really, come on. Yes, it was scheduled to be played in Louisville. The Sheldon Clark and LC game was scheduled to be played in Inez. But was it? No. Sure, it sucks that this team and the western and northern parts of the state have had to endure such tragedy and inconvenience. It's terrible. But football fans still want to see football. It didn't effect the Saints too much after Katrina did it? No, they played at the visiting teams facility. I really don't see how this is any worse. Just younger kids. I'm sure they wouldn't mind playing at JC's awesome facilities.

Agreed.

Didn't you all read where Shawnee has not practiced all week? Would you want to take your team out, if not prepared? Maybe the two schools should have addressed the possibility of this on Monday or yesterday... so practice could have been possible. Maybe this one can be re-scheduled.
I personally didn't realize the magnitude of the storm damage in that area. When things like this happen, it puts things in perspective. I hope all is well soon for the folks in the Shawnee area!

Why haven't they practiced? I can remember SEVERAL times in high school when school was cancelled that I still practiced. We didn't have water for over a week and was still able to practice. I mean, did the wind blow out the sun up there too? Is Western Ky. in darkness? I know I may sound like a jerk, but I just don't understand. I would still want to practice.

Do you think maybe the facilities are to damaged to practice?
Maybe the families are without power?
Maybe the adults have more important things to attend to than high school football.
High school football is probably the least of their concerns right now. Aftew they get their homes and lives back together then maybe they will get back to football but until then the game is cancelled.
If everyone is so concerned with missing a friday night game why not take a short trip and watch some other local school play?

Come on guys, to be 100% honest...it wouldn't have mattered if Shawnee had practiced for 6 months they wouldn't be taking down Central anytime soon...And I'm saying that with an open mind! To save alot of trouble (especially for our seniors) This game NEEDS! to be played at Central. Their stadium is state-of-the-art and more than capable. Its just not fair to Shawnee or us. The part that bugs me is that, this is one less game that the seniors on both sides will ever get to play. So I say we compromise and Shawnee packs up and brings the party here.

If they don't have any power, what else are they going to do?
I'm sure not EVERY neighborhood in the city has been ravaged by these winds. And what about the other Louisville schools? Is no team from Louisville playing?
If they don't have any power, what else are they going to do?

This is far from hilarious. Its sad! Very sad!
Big differences.
Sheldon Clark and Lawrence County are not 4 hours apart.
Also Sheldon Clark chose to put down new turf. I'm sure these people did not choose to have their lives interupted by severe wind storms.
The Saints are a proffesional team of paid players earning a living.
This is a bunch of high school kids that play the game they love to have fun.
Do you really expect this team to pay to transport their entire team and make the parents of players, travel that far just so the Johnson Central players and fans can have their game this friday.
Johnson Central agreed to play this game in Louisville. If it is to be made up than that is where it should be played.
Sad!

First of all, speaking for myself and im sure everyone else here that wants to see their team play this friday means no disrespect by wanting that...for those of you that think that well thats your problem.

The school has contacted at least one other school about a possible replacement game. Hopefully, we'll get some football in this Friday night and not get stuck with just a nine game schedule.

Just off the top of my head, I game that I would like to see out of this is a matchup with Anderson Co. They as well had a game cancelled this week, as they were to play Jeffersontown this Friday night. Last year Anderson had a perfect 10-0 season but was upset in the 2nd round by Oldham Co. This year Anderson is off to a 3-0 start. Not to say this matchup could happen, but I think it would be a worthy replacement.

They have called off all JCPS classes and sporting events for this weekend. I did not hear them say anything about the Private schools though. There are still over 100,000 people in the area without power.

The private schools can still play.

If you go onto the Anderson Co. school website, they were scheduled to play @ J-town, but that is a district game, if Anderson plays us, wouldn;t they have to drop another game? Is 10 games all you can play in a regular season? If the game with J-town is a District game, wouldn't that game have to be played for district standings?

It is too bad that this game has been cancelled. Maybe it can be made up.
