Paintsville Tigers '09
#31
Many small schools often go through ups and downs with talent. Paintsville has a very long standing tradition and will be back at the top in a few seasons.
#32
I think that when the 7th and 8th graders become jr and sr that is when pville will get back to the big dance. That is because they have alot of talent coming up at least 7 to 10 players deep.

THUGLIFE#1 Wrote:Some of those 7th and 8th graders r. Juwan Mayes,Matt Daniels,Colbly Burchett,Alex VanHoose (JR's bro), Brooks Pelphrey. Good talent.. But if u want to see some good 8th grade talent go watch Martin Co. 8th team they are the "Real Deal"

The only reason u think Martin Co.'s 8th grade team is the real deal is because they beat pville and they were all hold backs

the ville will be starting the JV team from last year. That cannot b good! or could it???????????????????????? u make the choice

I think a lot of you all are forgetting some key aspects. #1 it's Paintsville, end of story. #2 Matt Ratliff is a great coach and will continue BMR's legacy. #3 Coach Runyon has retired; he's not dead. He's still the Athletic Director of PHS. I'm sure he will be right there when Coach Ratliff needs a word of advice or guidance. They are going through a rebuilding year. Who doesn't? And for all of the JCHS fans who are dogging these kids, I can't remember when a JCHS team showed up in P-ville's gym and dominated the game. The will probably win, but P-ville will go down fighting.

Good Luck Coach Ratliff

Bill Mike is not employed by PHS at this time. John Brown is the Athlethic Director right now.

You gotta wonder how Green and Caldwell are feeling after transferring to PHS to play under Coach Runyon, then losing everything they wanted. Runyon may have been harsh at times, but he was a great coach. His "Super Six" ,as Central called them, were a good group of ball players who will be missed for the next few years. Josh and Dustin seemed to want a part in that.

I don't know where you get that Matt Ratliff is a great coach, he's is untested as a coach. Only time will tell if Matt can make it in the coaching business.

Matt Ratliff will be a very successful head basketball coach if he is left alone and doesn't have to look over his shoulder all the time.
#40
Without Landon Slone, I dont know if they can maintain a good solid season this year or not
#41
Lost A LOT of talent IMO
#42
we played paintsville last year and i think we started alittle spark of a rivalry just because of the intensity and hate our team had while playing against them in the All A Tournament. i hope we play them again this year, we want revenge Big Grin

pawsmom2 Wrote:That's sad. I'm sure there are kids 9-12 thinking they are finally going to get their turn. Maybe they should just do band, or tennis, etc.. We played their JV and they beat us to death, guess those players were the elementary boys you are talking about.

No offense, but tennis and band on a competitive level are somewhat more difficult than basketball. I know because I have tried all 3 at some point in my life. Obviously you haven't. Big Grin

Well they got a trip to Rupp! That is more than they would get at JCHS before they graduate. SV has it now.

If they were to meet in the All A, it would be bitter sweet revenge because the Tigers don't have any of the starters from last year's team nor the same head coach. But most likely, you won't see the Tigers in the All A this year.

No offense taken, this statement was actually not meant as an insult to either of those. I too play a musical instrument and have tried tennis, both are very challenging i agree. I was attempting to be a bit sarcastic, my bad.

I actually think that the boys on the bench are talented, and are being overlooked by some of the posters on this site. I wish them great success this year, can't wait to watch them play.

Who is coming out for basketball from football & wonder how much of an impact they will make?
#48
I don't know about Paintsville contending for 2nd in the district. I don't know much about Magoffin County, but I read they have 4 starters coming back, along with some other players who played some last season.

Paintsville will not be very good, IMO, by anyone's standards. It happens!

Paintsvilles freshman seth jarrell is now going to Allen Central and playing ball for the rebels, so Paintsville is just losing even more talent now.

Good Luck Coach Ratliff

I think Runyon just need to stay away from Ratliff's team and let Ratliff build his program his way. Runyon had a great career, but it's over and he's not coming back. I think PHS made an outstanding choice in hiring Ratliff because from what I've seen he has a great knowledge of the game and works well with the kids he has coached. I think he might take his lumps for maybe 2 to 3 years, but when players like Tiller, Jarrell, and some of the younger kids mature the 15th region better watch out. I wish Ratliff nothing but the best of luck.

Jarrell is now at Allen Central.

I wish Seth had not opted to go elsewhere. I do wish him good luck where ever he goes. He's a great kid!

exactly. even if they did have all their players back, i think we could give them a run for their money.
but your probably right, it might have jst been a one time game.

Yes he left. But, if the divorce isn't final or the parents have joint custody. Jarrell is hit. He will have to sit out for a year. Hate to see the kid go.
His sister did not go. She is still at the Ville, shootin the rock.
That is all I have to say on this subject. Very close to both kids and love them dearly and hope nothing but the best for both.

JMO, but a bad move....Seth could have been part a very young and exciting bunch in a couple of years. Now he will just be a good player for the Rebs.
#58
I think Ratliff of Paintsville will be a good coach, but I don't thik he is loaded with the talent that Paintsville has been use to for the last several years, JMO.

When the soph's this year are seniors, Tiger Basketball will be back.
Adkins, Spencer, Caldwell, Greene will be seniors
Then Tiller, VanHoose, Daniels, Sublett and others following behind.

Look, Talant comes and talent goes. I don't care what school you are at. In the next 2 years the Tigers will be right back in the thick of things. Don't get me wrong, they will compete till the bitter end for the next 2 years and will surprise a few people. But, with the talent they have in Spencer, Adkins, Green, Calwell, Reynolds, Jackson, Sublett, Daniels, Dalton, Burchett, Thompson, Tiller, Pelphrey, Daniels, Vanhoose. Deguzman and many, many younger ones. The Tigers will be right in the hunt for the 15th Region Title again! God knows that these kids will get TONS of experience over the next 2 years. So Tigers, keep your heads up and give them what you got. Cause you young ones WILL have your day! Go Big Blue!
