Russell vs Boyd Co JV
#1
Russell 10
Boyd Co 17

Final
#2
Sounds like a good game.
#3
Just A question? What are the guidelines for playing J.V. ?
#4
You don't start varsity.
#5
Also, if you start Defense on Varsity, you can play Offense on Jv.
Vise-versa
#6
Just for the record. I hate JV games being posted on here. They are meaningless except for it gives younger players or non starters a chance to play and maybe work their way into a lineup somewhere.

Sometimes the truth is the sublime.
#9
FBALL you are right...JV is for nothing more than experience and seeing who may be able to help out down the road...Anyone who puts a big emphasis on winning JV games does not understand the purpose...I can remember many years where Russell would get spanked in JV by a team such as Ashland and the next year beat them at the varsity level...Its like summer ball in basketball...It means very little other than gaining experience...
#10
I have to agree with FBALL,, WOW thats scary... But He is right, the JV games are playing time enhancers and giving the staff time to watch the players without the pressure of trying to coach to win.... Great opp for kids to stand out and make a difference.....

Geez, If it wasn't for JV many of the kids who don't start, wouldn't even play a game at all. After that you would only have around 30 kids on the team, even if you were a 5 A school. Yes, it gives the team depth so I will have to disagree. Its not pointless, All schools need it to keep the kids from getting discouraged and not show up for the following season. Yes, I know from first hand experience....LOL. I eventually earned a spot on special teams. But rarely started. So JV is an intregal part of the varsity team.

No one bothers to mention that this was the 1st JV game Russell has lost in 3 seasons.

LOL, if you never played on the JV team you will never know. Some of us weren't fortunate enough to be born "big ole ogres".

Dont get me wrong,, I think it is great and indeed needed to better prepare kids for Varsity. The problem is this. I think my agreement with FBALL was taken wrong. I agree that it is needed, but I have never seen any focus on winning and that being the sole purpose of the game... Of course everyone wants to win and the kids who are playing want to win, but it is sometimes is unfair to them because they are playing varsity players.... I have seen some local teams change the jerseys and bring kids who play varsity into the JV games.... Just saying.... It is a great way for the younger kids to get valuable playing time. But sometimes it is a no win situation....

No emphasis on winning when you loose.

But 3 years without loosing would leave anyone with the impression that winning meant something.

You guys kill me with that BS.

You don't take to the field to loose or to work on stuff in a JV game, you put the jersey on to win and represent.

Making slight of these games is an insult to the kids who practice all week and sit the bench on Friday night.

They play just as hard as the kids on Friday night.

Why not congratulate BC on a win and move on?

When was the last time you played JV????

The outcome is meaningless not the game. JV games are a great opportunity for those that don't start to get some game experience.

Yes everyone wants to win and plays to win once the whistle blows. Its just that JV games aren't always the best indicator of the future.

Russell lost their final JV game last year. Before that I don't know but I do know that they have not won every JV game for the last three years.

Congratulations to BC on winning a JV game.

I don't remember anyone ever saying that the outcome of the game had anything to do with the future of either program.Rolleyes

Every year we played Boyd and Ashland in either Freshman or JV we beat them. But, when it came to Varsity we couldn't. I believe that our senior year we lost to Boyd Co. but the JV stomped them. I agree that the outcome has no relivance(sp) to the year. Yes, it does look good for a team to have a great streak, but their is no championship at the end. Just a few worn out football players who are satisfied enough to return and play again the next year. Boyd County is a good program with a few years of rebuilding needed. Russell's JV generally plays all the schools in the area well. As for the record that is wonderful but what do they get out of it? Now, that is the argument at hand. Bragging rights, thats it. But who is going to remember it? I couldn't tell you any of the scores of any of the games I played in high school on JV. Why? It didn't matter. I lived for the Friday night lights not the Tuesday's.

No, but when you post JV scores and start a thread on them the importance is implied. You have a right to be proud of Boyd. But at least if you are going to roll eyes at me and start acting like this meant something you could start by getting your information correct.

As for getting off topic. It sure is now. Some times threads take off in different directions. I don't have a problem with that as long as it stays civil. You want to argue way to much. I simply said I didn't like posting scores of JV games. I nor anyone else ever said you couldn't.

Russell JV lost last year to Wayne, WV in a very hard battle. Now, can we let this topic go and concentrate on Fridays?? And Congrats to Boyd County on winning the JV game, and another BIG conrates on the very well played game on Boyds part last Friday night ! Vary underrated team. Much improved from last year. Top notch quarterback.

You are most welcome.

This has become way too funny.

All I did was post the score. LOL

I never would have thought that posting the score of a JV game would stir up so much controversy.

It really is funny though.

I guess 5th and 6th grade games are more important. Or are they? I mean they don't get played on Friday nights so they must not matter.

No big deal though....I know whats what now.......
