I think they might win more games than what some on here might think---but it's gonna be a "down" year for Tiger standards. Heh---you lose your top 6 players in terms of minutes played and production---and oh yeah a coach with 25+ experience and 500 + wins what can anyone expect but for the next season to be a "little down". But you mark my words---Matt Ratliff is gonna be a good coach and have the Tigers right back in the mix sooner, not later. You heard it here first---by the time this year's 8th graders are jrs they will be knockin at the door for a regional championship. The Tiller kid in 8th grade is the "real deal" and they have 8 or more potentially very good high school players in grades 6-8. Ratliff will build it back!! SV, JC, and whoever else better enjoy the next 2 years---cause after that it's over---the mighty Tigers will RULE again.

It takes more than one player no matter how good the might be.

Agreed---and if you look at the earlier post I made I commented there were 8 potentially good hs players in Paintsville in grades 6-8. It's gonna take more than just the Tiller kid---and the Ville has it! Tiller will be the center piece--but they have the goods to build around him nicely---just watch about 2-3 seasons from now!

So, are there no 9-12 graders with any talent at all?

I would be surprised if they won 10 games.

I think they will win more than 10 games....as I said in a earlier post I think they will win more games than what a lot of people think. I also think they will be in the running for 2nd in district---and could possibly go to region this season. But there's no denying they lost a lot---anytime you lose 6 seniors and a head coach off a region winning team that made it to the final 8 at state you lose a lot. I think there is talent in grades 9-12----but region winners? Dont think so (but I'd be glad to be proven wrong). I think the Tigers are gonna be competitive the next couple of seasons---but they just won't have the experience of a SV, etc. I also don't think there is a "core" of players in grades 9-12 to build a regional championship from---but they can experience success. To win a regional championship you have to have a core of 6-7 players with EXPERIENCE. And while I admire BMR for the coaching he did with the last graduating group he did very little to get the underclassmen the experience they needed---and the Tigers will have to pay the penalty on that for a while.

That's sad. I'm sure there are kids 9-12 thinking they are finally going to get their turn. Maybe they should just do band, or tennis, etc.. We played their JV and they beat us to death, guess those players were the elementary boys you are talking about.

So I guess Spencer, Adkins, Green, Jarrell, Sublett, S. Daniels, Thompson and Tiller should just start doing something else. Since there is no reason for them to play and they can't be considered a core. Way to just step and a Good Groups confidence.

There is also a soph that is no being mentioned. He is an excellent ball carrier and 3 point shooter (Caldwell). Great knowledge of the game.

My bad... You are right. I forgot, Thanks Fan. Also there is Reynolds as well. But, I guess we might as well bring up the 6th graders and work with them as transplant says. I guess 8 young players just aren't enough.

So, they are just going to play sophmores down?
08-28-2008, 02:10 PM
No, cause that just wouldn't be fair to the Seniors who have sit the bench and waited there turn for the last three years.

Who are seniors this year?

Thats why I mentioned about sophmores down, becuause of the the way Bill Mike done and built the program for every four years or so.

Some of those 7th and 8th graders r. Juwan Mayes,Matt Daniels,Colbly Burchett,Alex VanHoose (JR's bro), Brooks Pelphrey. Good talent.. But if u want to see some good 8th grade talent go watch Martin Co. 8th team they are the "Real Deal"

I'd have to agree with you on this assessment!!! There are some very talented kids on the way up. But it will probably take 2-3 years to get there.

What wouldn't be fair is to not play the best players on your team. I don't care if a kid sits the bench every year until he graduates. If he isn't a starter, his seniority should make him one.

I think the tiger have some really good talent. They have Jarrell, Sublett, Adkins, Spencer, Green, Caldwell, and Tiller. Oh and they have that one Daniels kid. I see him making a huge impact. He's 6'4'' and he's only a freshman and he's related to Craig Ratliff who played on the state championship team. He wasn't too bad himself. And don't even get me started on that Tiller kid. He can jump like a deer and shoot like no other. Outstanding.

Dont forget about Deaton,Rice, Vee, Brown, Whitten, J. VanHoose and Penix.

Paintsville will be down a couple of years but, every team goes through a few years rebuilding every few years. It's the nature of the beast.
