Breathitt County/Letcher Central Scrimmage
#1
I think it is Cougar time, how about you?
#2
I'd like to see how Breathitt County does against much tougher competition.

Best of luck to both teams, hope both stay injury free!
#3
Should help both teams get ready for there season opener.
#4
Should be a learning experience for both teams.....Scrimmages are not about winning and losing in my opinion.

Can't wait to see how this one turns out.

Who comes out looking the best?

Final

The Bobcats have some really nice young talent, most of them are younger classmen.Breathitt was impressive on D to me, I didn't think they were that good. They forced 2-3 fumbles in the game and Haddix returned an int. back for a TD but it was brought back do to a personal foul. Channing Fugate was a stud on both size of the ball. I think he might very well be the best back in the Mts. JMO.Haddix is very athletic and can make up big plays. He looked good at times but over threw a lot of WRs. I see big things from the Haddix and the Bobcats this season!

LCC looked for good too. Banks was Banks, he scramble for some big runs and threw for some big plays too. I think he had 3 Tds (2 pass and 1 rush) and 1 Int. The Cougars ran the ball well too, they have some big boys on both sides of the ball. LCC should win their district but that is tough one they play in. Good Luck Cougars.

One side note*

There was a scuffle in the 2nd quarter which had bout 10-15 players and leading to both benches clearing. I know this is a scrimmage but does that mean any of these players will be out for the next weeks opener? I hope not with both teams with very tough teams come up Harlan Co. and Johnson Cent. but thats just something you don't want to see at any game.

How did the O-Line look for Letcher Central?
#10
Did anyone get thrown out officially?

I don't think anyone got thrown out. Coaches on both teams took a few players out and let them cool for a while. Everything back to normal and no more problems.Good scrimmage for both clubs. Strengths and weaknesses will be worked on this week and both teams should have exciting openers next week.Good game to watch
#12
Great tuneup before the real season begins! Best of Luck to both teams! Go Cougars!
#13
Letcher's o-line done alright, but their is room for improvement. Thats what a scrimmage is all about, learning.

Must be something in the water. Today, there was a scuffle between Breathitt and Perry Central's Middle Schools teams. Tempers flared on both sides and a Breathitt coach got, shall we say a little excited, and all you know what broke loose. Perry Central's coach pulled his team and left.

pitiful.

I heard today that the officials working the game did in fact turn the ejections into the KHSAA.

I also heard today that there were no ejections and no suspensions were handed out...This is coming from Breathitt Co. Who knows, I really am not putting a lot of importance in this game because it tells me nothing about the playoffs, and that is what matters. If Breathitt has those starters suspended, they have no chance.

I think that the officials may have followed procedure and reported the incident. However i do not think anyone was officially ejected. It is good practice to inform upper echelon of infractions and this diruption is no exception. I do not feel that anything took place that would merit suspensions or we would have heard more by now. However they are always looking to make an example of someone and these programs will recieve formal warnings. If anyone is entitled to corrective actions it would be the staff imo as they are responsible for losing control of their players.

CASE SITUATIONS RELATED TO THE BYLAWS
of the KENTUCKY HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC
ASSOCIATION
Case BL-11-6- If a coach or player is ejected from a
scrimmage or contest, how long is the suspension?

The suspension is in effect for any further interscholastic competition
on that day. (i.e., the freshman coach ejected during the first
game may not be in the gym for the subsequent varsity game,
baseball/softball coach ejected in first game of multiple game
tournament may not be at field during any subsequent games
that day) and at minimum, for the next additional contest at that
level. The suspension is considered immediate and indefinite at
the level of play at which the ejection occurred.
This means that a coach or player may not participate in another
contest at that level (JV, Freshman, Varsity, etc.) until being
reinstated by a member of the Commission. Following review,
the Commission may extend the suspension.
Following the day of ejection, there shall be a minimum one-game/
meet/contest suspension for any participant or coach ejected
from a contest for unsportsmanlike conduct. For participants
sitting out in an individual sport such as swimming, track or
wrestling due to suspension, this penalty shall be for the entire
meet schedule not for a single event.
If the ejection was during one of the two preseason scrimmages,
the penalty shall be served during the first regular season
Contest.

How many players can't play in the first game? I heard that both teams got into a fight.

There are a couple of players suspended from both teams from my understanding. I think that it is ridiculous. It is a scrimmage where both teams are pumped, playing hard with ALOT of adrenaline and people...THINGS ARE GOING TO HAPPEN! Unless the fight was just near uncontrollable then break the spat up, point the players to the sidelines for the rest of the scrimmage game and go about your ways. I disagree with suspending the players under these circumstances that took place..Just my 2 cents worth..

This info coming from the coaching staff at BHS.....No one is suspended for game 1. Players were sat down for the remainder of the scrimmage but no official ejections were handed out.

I hope for the players welfare you are right. I also agree with Playboy5 just set them down for a bit and drill them monday in practice for losing there composure. If anyone is officially cited then let it be a coach. Im not targeting coaches but they are supposed to be in control. A coach should have already identified players with behavioral issues and taken action.

Our opinions of players mentality's during scrimmages seem to be vastly different.

The lack of discipline of players will ultimately cost them in the long run. Penalties in crucial points of the game whether they are pumped up or not separate the good from the mediocre teams.
#26
Here is another strange twist that I heard this afternoon. I heard that Letcher's athletic director, who is also on the board of control got the suspensions "fixed". Man it must be good to have friends in high places.

To borrow a phrase from Doc Holiday in the movie Tombstone “It appears my hypocrisy knows no bounds.” This whole situation reeks and surprise surprise the KHSAA is right in the middle of it.

Agreed!

Sure would like to have that AD on my side if he has that kind of power. Would someone define discipline in today's society.

It was a scrimmage get serious, both teams learn from this!!!

I don't know if that is true or not but those are some pretty strong accusations to make based on something you "heard"
