Harlan County vs. Letcher Central - Aug. 29
Not sure freshmen player and they switch the numbers anyway...
DaBears Wrote:Good Lord!!I'm just posting what i seen thats all. i didnt think LCC looked bad.All i said was that Middlesboro move the ball up down the field on them and played good defence against LCC.
Middlesboro is not a team you are going to move the ball up and down the field on. They play high risk defense. You either score on them or punt and try the next time. We dropped 2 TD's by the way and one was a pass interference.

And try the next time? I guess you should have not dropped the passes.

Dropped passes in pre-season turn into caught passes in regular season. But in an earlier post this year i did stress my concerns about LCC`s recievers. I hope that they get this worked into something good,we know we already got an arm behind center. if they are anywhere close to decent then their gonna get a good toss from Bank`s.

Do you think Harlan has a good shot of winning state?
Harlan Co. does not have enough time together to win state. Reaching that goal is a long term milestone for any team. I know that these young men just didn`t fall out of the sky!!! But to clarify you have teams even in 1A that could knock them and alot of other units off the tracks. Now i do think they will make the playoffs this year and they are gonna show some bright spots for the future. But not in a state championship setting. Good luck to all mountain teams. But it would be nice if they did and as a player i would never set my long term goal for anything less. Never hurts to aspire for perfection. In the next couple of years to come i see them in the 5A holding a trophy.......
By the way if anybody knows which radio station will be covering this game please let me know. If that station has an internet link would be best as i am far away THANKS!!!!!!

Not for sure but I think the Harlan Radio station will carry it. WTUK 105.1 not sure of the website but go to harlanonline.net and it will have a link.
Thanks alot Patriot. Good to have the Bears as rivals.

Understood and I agree. Good luck to the Bears.
The Massey Ratings/Predictions are out and they are predicting Letcher Central winning this one 41-24!!!

This is my first post, although I have been following this topic on BGR for quite a while now. I have enjoyed reading everyone's comments...One week until the Bears' first big game, and I CANNOT wait. I wish both teams good luck and no injuries, but of course I want the HCHS Bears to come back to the Bear's den with a big ole' W.

GO BEARS!!!:letsparty

Time is drawing nigh!!!! From here on out if you do not see my post it will mean that my request to be placed into a medically induced Coma has been granted. My nerves just can`t wait until friday night. To Bears and Cougars this is the beginning of glory. Maybe in the future we can get this game sheduled for maybe the last district game. If our nerves can support that then it would be worth the wait. Even if for some reason one team isn`t in contention then they have a chance of making things harder for the other. Home field advantage in the playoffs and so on..

Maybe we can get a group discount on that medically induced coma!!!! The waiting is almost over!!!:bounce: :bounce:
So what do you think about moving this game up the shedule Mama Bear. This kinda thing makes rivals even better and you save the best for last. I guess there are some negatives also but this is just my take.
Go Bears!

Sounds like a plan to me. I think we will be playing Bell County next year which would be a good game later in the season too. I'm a little nervous for this to be our very first game ever. We really would like to start off the season with a big W, so the pressure is on. I would have liked this game to have been a little later in the year, but it's my understanding that scheduling was a nightmare this year.

The Bear Nation will be migrating across that mountain Friday!!!!
Looks like a 20% chance for rain. Turf and rain could be good ingredients for fumbles and bad footing. I hope that percentage increases in the name of keeping things interesting. I can almost hear those helmets smashing together.
Actually, one of their coaches said that rain provides the turf with it's best playing surface. They said you actually get better traction if it is wet for some odd reason. He said it makes it "sticky". So it shouldn't be bad either way around.
Less than a week, looking like a record crowd, talk about a great memory for fans, coaches, and most importantly players

I don't know, it can get kind of slick when it rains hard enough.

Based on what I have observed.

Fumbles- Wet football always equals increased chance of fumbles, but wet, muddy football is alot easier to fumble than just a wet one.

Footing- Initial traction won't be effected, linemen won't be effected, cutting may be effected. With mud all three would be effected.
I have always wondered, do teams with turf practice on thier field or do they have a seperate practice field with say real grass?
Mama Bear Wrote:I have always wondered, do teams with turf practice on thier field or do they have a seperate practice field with say real grass?

We practice on the turf at LCC.

How about if you are going to play on a grass field?

You can throw the predictions out the window. This one has the makings of knock down drag out classic. This year and into the future this rivalery will definitly create thunder in the mountains. Good luck Cougars and Black Bears the future looks bright for both of you.
DaBears Wrote:how about if you are going to play on a grass field?

I don't know about other teams, but at LCC we practice on turf whether we play on turf or grass. We only have the one field which is turf so..........
