baseballjunkie29 Wrote:I was at the Belfry Bowling Green game and I saw things a little different. The Belfry fans were heckling pitchers and other players to the point where they got warned to all be thrown out of the game. That is why the kid got tossed is because they were already mad at Belfry for showing no sportsmanship. And that pitch he got so mad about was strike three. Maybe if he wasnt right on top of the plate it wouldnt have looked like such a bad pitch. When your players are throwing helmets at umps and your coaches are throwing gatorades at people, thats not baseball. I witnessed the entire thing and was not biased for any team and that was what I saw.
Or apparently didn't see.... The only problem from the fans was their questioning of an umpire not calling obvious balks.... you cannot step toward the base and runner and not throw the ball. The fans were upset at this blatant disregard for the rules, that is why they were warned.
Additionally, look at the pics of that called strike three.... for you to say it was not WAY inside tells me that you were not unbiased in your witnessing of this game.... NO HELMETS WERE THROWN AT UMPS by either team.... call it correctly or don't call it at all!

The bats and helmets from both teams were being thrown and I don't think it was because of bad sportsmanship. I think the kids were honestly disappointed in their own performance. In a game like that, the emotions of the kids are high. Bottom line, if adults are the problem then deal with them and let the kids finish it on the field!
Amen!

Notice the catcher's completely extended arm and the lean toward the inside.... with him set up directly behind the plate, there is no way he has to reach like this for the ball unless it is WAY inside!

You're very welcome.... apparently some people watched a different game than everyone else saw (including Warren County)!
I wonder if it is one of those thieving umpires trying to make himself look better? LOL

By the way, CONGRATS Bowling Green! Good Luck tomorrow versus Richmond!
07-26-2008, 10:45 PM
Okay... before I offically start on my input on all this I want to first congratulate Warren Co. Your boys are very nice young men from what I saw of and from them and I'm sure they will put forth the best effort tomorrow and bring home a victory!! Best of luck on tomorrows game and I will be cheering you on from here at home.
NOW....I sat and kept pitch count for Belfy. Beside of me was another of the mothers who was keeping a second book so that we were able to ensure that we were being exact on all of our stats. Yes, I did hear comments being made but NOT to any of the Warren Co. players. We always say things to our kids.... "Down and ready boys"..... "2 down... only 1 more"..... "play defense... get this out".... that type of stuff.... IF anyone said anything to any of Warren's kids I personally did not hear it. WHAT got it all started was the fine man in blue on 3rd when our base coach questioned on what the PLATE ump considered a balk. Our coach did NOT question the 3rd base umpire but he made it his call. I think we have a good pic of the veins in his neck buldging out if any would like it........ In every game that I have ever been at the Plate umpire or the umpire that makes the call unless they ask for help makes the decisions. All the coach did was ask a question. Yes, the crowd was asking if it was a balk... yes, they were loud.... BUT they did NOT say anything to any child. If anyone acted with unsportsmanlike conduct we have a GREAT pic of the ump rippin his tail when the question wasn't even directed to him. IF they young man behind the plate wasn't sure on the call then why put him back there. This is/was a state tournament. IMHO to be totally fair to all involved.... Have some ump's from WV come to KY and do the state there and KY ump's head to WV to do theirs. Unbiased umpires who do not have any connection with the tournament committee, facilities, schools in the area, children, parents, or DISTRICT ADMINISTRATOR should be used for this calibar of games. Making sure that the KIDS are treated fairly and that the tournament games are called with the upmost professionalism should be the main focus of the "tournament committee"... WHICH BTW does anyone know who or how many was on it???
So... whatever you think you saw, we have the photograph of the pitch.... it speaks volumes. The child had every reason to be upset. The umpires did wrong by taking out their frustrations on the children as they made a call against 1 child that affected 9 others. In my book.... that is wrong. Have a set of KAHAUNA'S and set the crowd straight if that is the problem and let the boys play. Taking this opportunity from the boys from Belfry was wrong. They know it.... and so do many others. Believe me... this is FAR from being over!!!!!

OH... and for baseballjunkie29's info.... HE was in the batters box that was drawn for them to stand in... NOT on the plate as you seem to think he was.... He is an advanced enough player who has been to state tournaments on 3 separate occasions... I would think he knows how to bat... wouldn't you???

Belfry fans quit complaining I mean come on ur blaming other people just because on of ur kids got thrown out of the ball game and u all lost. The umpire doesnt have to give u a warning. I understand it was close game and all. But if I only have 9 players I wouldnt even do anything to get myself thrown out of the ball game. Thats stupidity! Get over it. One of your players messed up thats not anyones fault but ur own.. Not the tournament director, not the district administarter. not williamsport. yours!!!I was for Belfry I wanted them to win. But one little mistake ruined ur alls chance. I am no trying to down grade u all, or the player who made the mistake. Im just imforming u that It wasnt anyones fault but ur own!

I dont have to be there. the only thing I have to do is get on here is read what u all say . and I saw picture and if thats a Brooks Pelphrey frame that my friend might have been a strike. gotta reach out there and get it..lol

Even people from the other team say it was a bad call.... makes sense for the fans to still be upset.... especially since the boys were hurt by it. Not to mention the fact that the player never "slung" the bat, he tossed it to the on deck circle walking back to the dugout.... it is a tough pill to swallow when kids get robbed of the opportunity to win it or lose it on the field.

Have you read this entire thread or just the last few post? You have no clue. You would have to have been there all last week and definetely at that game to even be able to understand or have an opinion. Read it all and also read where some of these opinions are coming from. Number one..they are coming from adults! And number two they are also coming from other towns other than just Belfry. People who were actually there. Other coaches as well. This isnt just Belfry complaining. Read the whole thread. Research what your commenting on then post a real opinion. One call (that wasnt deserved) dont even begin to describe....

You should have seen it from right behind the plate. This kid never moves out of the way of a ball but this one would have hit him without question (and he was nowhere near on top of the plate).... maybe he should have stood in and let it hit him....

Amen! But hes not even looking at that part of it. Hes acting like the whole week of crap was over one call on the last day. That was just the most pathitic part of the tournment. Punishing the kids with bad calls cause they are upset with Belfry. He said he saw the pic...a good pitch, no you dont have to chase them especially that far inside. But you might as well give up trying to have a real conversation with him. You can tell its a kid.

People don't seem to get that our problem is not JUST with the end of the last game, it was with the way the entire tourney was run and the lack of courtesy shown all the outside teams.... It is pretty bad when the "home" team says they won't even go back to South Laurel again!

WHY may I ask should you get on here and downgrade a TOP KNOTCH 13-14 year old team of KIDS? These kids will be playing together for the next 3 years. They could have coached themselves because they are THAT GOOD! NOT by any means saying that they don't make mistakes as us ADULTS make them. OR do you??? The child in question did NOTHING.... NOTHING to get himself thrown out of the game. Unless you were there to witness it, I would suggest that you keep your BIASED opinion to yourself. Yes, opinions are appreicated here on BGR and when you say that the kids OR the coaches were stupid.... THAT is going to far. We all know exactly why you are posting this and to be totally honest.... I personally would like for you to stand in front of those boys who worked their tail ends off, busted everyone here in district, and went to state to bring home a title to district 7 only to have it taken away by a joke filled tournament. This is NOT whining. They didn't get a chance to play the game. They had it TAKEN from them... they didn't take it from themselves....... The call that was made to CENTRAL NOT Williamsport was reported as something other than what really happened. They had it out for us and I could PERSONALLY tell you a few choice things that the DA down there said about our district 7 officials. Its not very nice I may add. I'm glad that I won't be dealing with LL next year. My child does NOT need that type of influences on him. As I am sure others will agree!!!
