Can't you finish a game wit 8 players?
The ump in question should have used a little better judgement.Give the player a warning then if he does it again CALL him out not throw him out.
I feel for the Belfry players coaches and fans.I am with you guys travel is better than Jr and Sr because nobody really cares about those age groups. After the 12 yr age group it goes down hill.To me that's when the interest should kick in because it is real baseball.
It usually goes down hill for us in that age group too. We wondered the same thing on finishing with 8 players!? We had 11 originally and one didn't get to come. Given time we could have called a couple of replacements in, but they just called the game on us. High School and travel ball is so much better and although we have had some good times (this is my sons third trip to state) and learned a lot growing up in LL......your right that is when real baseball kicks in.

Maybe the parent's need to call Williamsport, or something this is a crime. More than likley they won't do anything about it, I really don't think they care about anything but the money.LL was at one time the best organization but i don't fele that way anymore. One of the recent national presidents son played Babe Ruth or something other than LL.
Anyways i would call and give them my 2 cents worth.
London does not need to hold another State Tourney untill they can prove thet can get their ducks in a row.

It's a shame that one player didn't get to come. This should be a great experience for these kids. And now your players have a bad taste in their mouth. Everybody needs to understand it's for the kids including our local league as well. I am sorry for the way you guys were done,if it were up to me i would let a team play on with 6,7 or 8 players. There were circumstances should have been considered before calling that game.

I watched this game and it was, in fact, a travesty. What I personally had a problem with was the fact that both teams were showing emotion, slinging helmets and tossing bats in disappointment, but they chose to throw out one on a team that only had nine to begin with, aftern NO WARNING to anyone! Additionally, the umpires told the Belfry coaches to shut their fans up when all we were doing was questioning whether a balk should have been called.
Overall, this tournament was poorly run. The tournament director, when asked to appeal a decision is obligated to do so on behalf of the kids. Why did he not call Williamsport when he was asked? Why did he feel the need to lie to the coaches and players? Why is Richmond still in this tourney without the appropriate paperwork?

His team members and coaches have made sure all evening that he knows they dont blame him, that he did nothing wrong so that he's not blaming himself and carrying that around on his shoulders. AMEN! It's this type of thing that is let go year after year to children that allows the adults to keep doing it. Little league better get their ducks in a row or as I told Ms. Johnson in my email there will not be a little league in our area much longer. I can remember when my oldest played LL, we played at Pikeville in area. Paintsville played there for their area. They flip flopped the district from Pikeville to Paintsville every other year. There was an abundance of teams in district 7 then. NOW.... you can just about count on one hand. This alone should tell little league that something isn't being done right. Don't get me wrong.... LL does have its great points and I'm not saying that LL is at fault. BUT its the people associated with the "administration" in certain areas and the situtations such as ours that is causing the leagues to evaporate. LL is for the kids!!! NOT the adults!

I will be sending an email myself. I want to find out how London got the tournament two years in a row and how they go about choosing the city. In todays game the players and umpires were ready to play and it took five minutes for someone to come out and remove the tarp on the pitchers mound. The most unprofessionally run tournament I've ever seen. By the way Bowling Green / Warren County beat Lewis County 11-4 and will play Richmond tomorrow.

The got it 2 years in a row because the District who's turn it was last year, didn't field a team and didn't want to host it. So they said they would take it and if you take a tourney when it isn't your turn you do NOT loose your spot in the rotation. Therefore they got it again this season. Also it is up to the District administrators on what city in their Disrtict get to host the Tourney.
As far as S Laurel goes and the facility. I thought it was much more than good enough. The problem in my book was the Touney Committee and the DA. NO CLUE.

Like I said before if it's held in London we won't be coming. We have five 13 year olds on our team and this was our districts first time fielding a Junior League team. Our boys may go back to playing Babe Ruth if they don't straighten out the state tournament. Even if we win it there will still be a bad taste in our mouths the way it was ran and how Belfry was treated. And from what I hear Richmond doesn't have all their paperwork and documents to prove their kids eligibility to play and yet they are still letting them play. Everyone else had to comply with the rules but they are just taking Richmonds word for it. Thats just not right.

It will not be in London, I think they are District 5. If that is the case then District 6 should have it next season. Has anyone contacted your District AD and State AD? That is where everyone should go first. Then if they don't handle it, then you jump to Region and Williamsport. Little league don't need anymore eligible player controversies....lol

What tourney committee??? He had no tournament director, no umpire in chief, (unless it was the high school softball coach whom he allowed to umpire every game), no ground crew...........the concessions contained only water, pop, gatorade, and chips...... NOTHING else, the umpires verbally called out subs to the press box, the DA cussing over having to get foul balls...... it was awful!!!! I saw a lady with a infant child and she was charged $5.00 for the baby like the rest of us to get in. Like Bowling Green, we were staying approx. 3 minutes from the ballfield and were not notified of any game changes unless our coach went out to the field to find out himself. This tourney is a joke!! Facilities... many high schools have as nice of facilities as S. Laurel. Yeah, they are okay but the roll down the first base line is what caused us to have a player break his ankle. WITH NO paperwork filled out from Mr. DA himself on the childs injury.......
Thanks adopted purple for your support of the boys. We are standing behind you all now and want ya to take it all!!

DANG! Don't bite my head off.... . I am agreeing with you that the Tourney ppl have no clue. Looks like they would have learned their lesson last year. Yes, the admission price was crazy. Was the same last year. I will say that they did have a ground crew last season. I think 2 ppl...lol.

Wasn't bitin ya head off....:p I'm just still ticked about the way the boys were done. :redboxer: I actually just got finished sending the local London paper a nice little "opinion" if they want to publish it. To take a game away from kids (and I mean the Bowling Green boys too) and we KNEW it was coming.
When we were leaving the field the DA was out brushing off the field. I guess he was their ground crew, tournament committee, umpire in chief, the everything!!! This has been a joke....... We didn't have a list of phone numbers, no packets, no idea where we were going to stay, no NOTHING!! He basically told me on the phone it was too expensive to send out 6 or 8 packets. ???? DUH?????? Mine won't have to worry about it as he will do travel ball and high school next year. London, KY can stick this one between their legs and run with it and hope like heck that all the emails that central is getting... LOLOLOL...... doesn't get some questions thrown at them for their OWN sportsmanship and choices made during this tourney.

I can tell you the team from North Laurel will also not play again if it is held in London and this is their hometown. Richmond had no paperwork to even show that they were Little league certified. They had several photocopied birth certificates. When their eligibility was questioned the DA said to play the game and he would consider the protest later. After the game he stated he didn't have to rule on the protest if he didn't want to. This got the tournament off to a bad start and caused every other team to already be aggravated with the running of the tournament.
07-26-2008, 11:38 AM
Maybe if everyone would send little league a nice little "note" about the running of the state tournament this year they would possibly do something about it. Its not fair to the kids that the adults don't have the competence to run the thing the way it needs to be ran. Paperwork should have been checked on EVERY team in the tournament before it even started. NOTHING was checked. There is a child without a birthcertificate on the Richmond team but according to what I have been told he was told by Williamsport that he had to set out the tournament. ??????? Who KNOWS with the way this thing has went!! It was like a 3 ring circus!!!

I was at the Belfry Bowling Green game and I saw things a little different. The Belfry fans were heckling pitchers and other players to the point where they got warned to all be thrown out of the game. That is why the kid got tossed is because they were already mad at Belfry for showing no sportsmanship. And that pitch he got so mad about was strike three. Maybe if he wasnt right on top of the plate it wouldnt have looked like such a bad pitch. When your players are throwing helmets at umps and your coaches are throwing gatorades at people, thats not baseball. I witnessed the entire thing and was not biased for any team and that was what I saw.

I cannot believe what I am reading. Yes the parents were warned and we had no idea why!!! IN FACT we ask what the problem was!! The director told us (I heard with my own ears, I wasnt a bystander, I was right there) that there had been problems the night before with the two teams during their game and he had told the umps no more from anyone! Belfry NEVER through out this or any tournment "heckles" other kids. We cheer on our own team, always, end of story. There was a question about what most everybody thought was a 2nd and possibly 3rd balk by the umps standards around here, but NEVER was a child heckeled. In fact Belfry has done nothing but praise warren co on here. Number 2...even if a bunch of parents from any team does stupid things, then be man enough to take it out on the parents not the kids. The kids worked very hard to get where they were and they did it honestly!!!! That remark was ridiculas. Number 3...I will see if I can upload the picture of that "strike 3" the catchers arm is streched completely out, inside, and well beyond stike zone!! He had to dodge from getting hit. Its in todays paper and the photograper showed us the pics at the field before we left so we dont need any opinions. A picture speaks a thousand words and we have lots of pictures! There were no bats/helmets or gatorade bottles thrown during the game. The batter shoved his bat to the ground, he was emotional but did not sling nor throw it! Now we did dee bats and helmets fly in this tourney but nothing was said. The bottle was thrown to the ground in the field After the kids were robbed of playing.
Its a funny thing that all of these other people including North Laurel and warren has our back and not just our back but the backs of ALL kids who are done wrong. It was 1 to 0 Warren up in a great game! And I hope they win it all!

If fans are unruly then you warn them and put them out of a game. You don't punish innocent children. The bats and helmets from both teams were being thrown and I don't think it was because of bad sportsmanship. I think the kids were honestly disappointed in their own performance. In a game like that, the emotions of the kids are high. Bottom line, if adults are the problem then deal with them and let the kids finish it on the field!
