Lady Raider Volleyball 2005
#1
The Lady Raiders lost most of their team and I am not sure they have players returning that are willing to sacrifice what it takes to be as good as last year. I am not sure they can play in the creek. We will see as the season approaches.
#2
How can you say they can't play in the creek. They have a few players that could really do well this year.
#3
What do you mean they lost most of there team? They only lost three? They still have the best setter in the region in Leslie Holbrook. Not to mention one of the best defensive specialists in Megan Castle. Then, you have the a great outside hitter in Katie Cook. You have Tiff Tackett who is an excellent player and Kim Howell who is also talented. Then Kasey Elkins who can flat out play. You also have alot of tlaented underclassmen. And, if I failed to mention a 5th grader (Ashley Castle) who is coming up to play high school volleyball, who is just as good as most freshman. So, tell me Pikey, how they lost their team? All these girls are dedicated players.

Right on South_21...the lady raiders have been workin hard in conditioning and lifting weights and getting ready for the upcoming season...they are gonna be as good as last year if not better, we still have mos of our players with varsity experience that played last year...all of our seniors this year have played together since 7th grade, we know how to work with eachother and we will be pretty good Smile

You cant even win you own county!
#6
True they did lose to a tough B Layne team
And AC has a all state player in Hunter
#7
South Floyd would be alright if they got rid of Keith Smallwood and make Johnny Little head coach. Johnny taught Keith everything that he knows and he does nothing to help the girls. He insults them and isn't a caoch. Johnny is ten times the coach Smallwood will ever be.
#8
No doubt Smallwood never says anything good about anyone
I think he should be tared and feathered.
#9
I say we tar and feather them both!!!!, no assistant can be good with out a head coach to teach him the offense that he wants to run and to help in the developement of the players, I have seen coach smallwood go out on limbs for most of his girls and been to camps, college visits, and other things with them. he is a good coach and from knowing coach little just a little bit he will not coach unless coach smallwood is the head coach.
#10
And i would say that Smallwood will only remain as coach with Little by his side.
However I have heard that they both owe Don Burke for sharing his Vast knowlege of the game.
#11
The LAdy Raiders return alot of talent in Holbrook,Castle, and Cook who all got playing time last year..The Lady Raider Volleyball team will only be as good as they want to be. and I believe this group of SR's has the leadership to to make the team better. and yeah we should tar & feather Smallwood doc..lol
#12
Don Burke is a multi talented man and did well in the line of coaching volleyball and giving inside secrets as to the winning ways of volleyball. He is not to be taken litely.
#13
I can tell that there is defently sarcasim in your guys' tones. I don't understand why you all would feel this way about Don Burke? His name shouldn't have even been brought up. I also know that Smallwood is in debt to Burke anyway. He did him very dirty. :x

I would like to see coach burke back in the coaching ranks in floyd county!
#16
I thought he was coaching Basketball t AC?
#17
Thats pretty strong statements about Smallwood doing Don Burke dirty. As far as the sarcasm I would say that everyone thats been affiliated with the South Floyd bunch gets plenty of sarcasm aimed at them and none are left out. I don't really think it is intended to hurt or wound anyone though.
#18
Not all staff affiliated with South Floyd does. Barry Hall is a great coach. I also think the girls' coach Tony Isaac is a teriffic coach. I also complimented John Little above. So, the only ones who get bad things said about them are bad coaches, like Smallwood. But, I think that Don Burke should be left out of it. Everyone knows Keith did him wrong! You of all people should know Doc and Wyatt Earp!
#19
Livestrong, you must not knowto much every coach in floyd county high school or assistant is on a one year contract, I think coach burke took a job at another school and decided at the time to coach that schools middle school volleyball team and left a opening for an assistant at South Floyd High School. But Coach Burke decided to Coach High School Softball and did a fine job at it. No one was done dirty and should not be talked about. Smallwood was coach of the year in the area and was 20-5, personal attacks and grudes should be left off this site and I am a personal friend with mr. Burke and he is a fine coach but told me he was glad he was not coaching volleyball anymore.
#20
I have had Smallwood, Burke, and Little all as coaches and know them all pretty well...they are all great people and coach very good, they all have their different styles and techniques about coaching and do a good job, So none of them should be talked about. They are all great people! Big Grin
#21
Wow!! There is a lot of hostility in this room. Everyone needs to calm down. They are ALL great coaches. Let just focus on the girls and not their coaches. They have a lot to live up to with last years team leaving with a 20-5 record. But I think the girls will do fine in the up-coming season. Good luck to the girls and the coaches! Big Grin
#22
Guys calm down in here, its getting a little out of control
#23
Smallwood has done a great job as the coach there. just like he did when he was the girl's track coach. he actually got people to come and watch volleyball games. and plus most of the girls like and respect him. only ones who don't are the ones not good enough to play. u must be or are family to one of those girls. Smallwood is a very respectable man and coach. if u feel otherwise then thats your opinion but dont try to run him down.
#24
I'm not sure if I know what I'm talking about, but as far as I know, South Floyd has struggled with volleyball in the past. Now, to my knowledge, if a coach leads a team to a 20-5 record and they have struggled in the past, I'd say that's a huge feat to accomplish. With that, liveSTRONG, the reasoning behind your thoughts sounds like a personal grudge against the coach to me. Personal attacks will not be tolerated here so keep them out of the forums.
#25
well i saw some more of their players for next year. of course the got Castle and Holbrook back but they got another athlete in Stephine Slone. girl is goin to be good.
#26
South Floyd has a lot of talent coming back. Such as Cook, holdbrook, and Castle. The litte Slone girl needs to work on a lot of stuff, she needs to start jumpin rope a lot more as well for her verticle jump. I think they will be very good this upcoming season. The 3 returning starters from last year, cook, holdbrook, and castle have stepped up a lot since conditioning and camp.
#27
Howell ( #8 ) for the Lady Raiders is going to rock everyone's socks off this year.
#28

#30
