I know that the end of the season for many teams have already come and gone or, just around the corner. With that being said, it shouldn't be long until the coaching carousel starts to spin. What changes can we expect to see this off-season?

Obviously the Paintsville Tiger job is going to be open. BMR has already announced his retirement. HUGE shoes to fill there. I think that they will go with a home grown kid (probably one of BMR's 10 assistants). Would have loved to have seen JR get that job but he is pretty settled in Phelps and had a good first season so I look for him to stay with the Lady Hornets. Do you think that they will hire someone not already on BMR's bench?

From what I am hearing Matt Ratliff will take over the Tigers for the 08 - 09 season, I wish Roger Harless from Sheldon Clark would take it, but it won't happen. Other than Paintsville I really don't see any changes for next season. :bball: :****happe

Ratliff WILL be the new head coach. I know it will say the job is open but the decision has been made.

Breathitt Co maybe open
Jackson City maybe
These two openings could create two more.
JBS should look for new leadership but who knows if they will

They will not leave and that job is far from attractive.

yea i think legally they have to post it for 30 days and then they can interview and announce the decision...but with matt already having bmr's endorsment i think its a no brainer for the site base council and im pretty sure they have already decided just a matter of going through formalities...

I really don't know this for sure, i truely HOPE this is not true. But it's what been going around, i heard Justin A coach from Knott Co. Central would not be back as coach next year. What was said was there is some kind of friction or matter between him and the new superantented ( bad spelling ) or his new boss in the school system. Also heard that some guy was coming to coach from LCC. Just what i heard, Justin is a young coach, seam to sorta know what he's doing, my policy is if things are working well don't mess with it, just to try to get even with someone may come back to haunt you. But it's just my opinion, so anyways i hope he can get to stay on

I agree, Justin Amburgey is a great young coach. He may not be as accomplished as some other coaches but they shouldn't get rid of him because of a little friction as you say. Knott County has suffered for years now from stuff like this, and it's about time for coaching changes to quit or they will continue to set at home in the while other teams play in the district tournament and regional tournament. UK football quit making coaching changes year after year a couple years ago when they got Rich Brooks. You know they had a little bit success. Players can learn a system if it's there long enough to be taught.

That would be interesting, But I have heard Whitaker could be the getting the coach at LCC if Coach J steps down after this year.

I say get rid of coach amburgey at Knott, He's had his two years and didnt get them to the state tournament so he needs to go now. Lets give someone else two years to see if they can get them to the state tournament and if not i say try someone else.
03-01-2008, 05:19 PM
Is Amburgey getting the same treatment that Coach Honeycutt got when he was at Knott Central? I dont think they should get rid of him but who knows bout KCC over there. Amburgey has been there 2 years and already has a district championship and got beat out by a good Cordia team this year so I wouldnt say gave him the axe already but I think if KCC is looking for someone to lead them to state quick then hire someone like Eddie Whitaker!
03-01-2008, 09:21 PM
How many times has Coach Whitaker taken his team to the state?

Exactly, SC is prob the only place that would hire him. The way he handled his team this year shows most that he couldn't handle a kindergarden team

Knott has not had state tourney talent for the past two years. Pat Summitt couldn't have taken that team to the Sweet 16.......LOL

Wow....I'm glad you know that progress sometimes takes time. You act as if it is a sin that the Pats haven't been to state the two years Coach has been there however, no coach since Jim Rose has taken KCC to state. Coach K, arguably the best coach in the history of the game went 27-30 in his first two seasons at Duke. Had the AD there have the same metality you do then he would have fired COACH K!!!! It takes time and firing coaches every two years will produce no results. Coach Amburgey is very capable of coaching at KCC and whatout if he's back next season because there could be a new banner hanging in the Complex.

In the 56th there could be a couple of changes. If Lively takes one of the open jobs who will Powell get. Lively is from Breathitt and that job will probaly be open.
03-04-2008, 02:09 PM
Coaching changes RUMOR MILL:
1. Jenkins boys and girls both, Coach Johnson and Coach Bentley are stepping down.
2. Knott Central boys and girls, both have been told that they need to find another job, not because of ability, I guess they can't get along with the new WOMAN IN CHARGE! Have heard Cavanaugh Trent, Al Holland, RAndy Napier for the boys job, and Rhett Gibson for the girls.
3. Letcher Central no changes in future, both are in good with super and Justice has a chance to win the region and is doing a good job.
4. Hazard, one and done for Coach Holland I'm afraid. New coach (Whitaker)
5. Perry Central, word is from around the state that Coach Hatcher has told some of his old friends he would be looking elsewhere for employment due to the fact that this was not the job he thought it would be.
6. Jackson City, someone from the school will be taking over next season for Coach Bellemy.
7. Breathitt, Banks rallied the troops and made it to the region, but for only one game, don't know if that will be enough to keep his job, but he is pretty tight with the super there so I'm thinking he is safe. Lively would be an obvious choice if for some reason he does step down, maybe to take the A.D's role from Coach Halcomb.
8. Lee, After his first round loss again this year, he may decide for good to give it up this year.
9. Leslie, good possiblility of Coach Sizemore moving on, his kids are starting to get bigger and will need more time with them and don't see anything coming up for Leslie in the future.
10. Powell, if Breathitt opens up, we could see Lively jump on that one and Powell will need a new coach, but don't see this scenario happening right now.
That is all the possibilities in the 14th region as of right now in the rumor mill.

Don't forget the Stepps are being pressured to leave form the players. The Lex Herald said Clint may not be long for Pippa Passes indicating a transfer and if he goes the older Stepps are gone.

That grapevine is starting to talk onced more, Chris A. will recevie another contract if he choose so. I think he will stick around, he's done a wonderful job with the team this year. If i am not mistaking there is only one senior that leaves this year. So look out next year, the girls should be as good as this year. Not taking anything away from Mosley, i fill Megan has a bright future ahead of her on the basketball court. And besides if the program is working well leave it along, let a coach leave on his or her own, leave the GOOD O'L BUDDY system out. Let the kids play and enjoy and remember what a great felling it was to play and be apart of the great game and sport of basketball.

1. Jenkins coaches are gone, they are looking at AL Holland to come and take over if not then Ed Whitaker, maybe one will coach the girls and one the boys.
2. Knott coaches are gone, maybe the Jenkins coaches might be coming over there to coach, if not look for Al Holland and maybe Ed Whitaker to come and take over if not then they might just combine the boys and girls and have one team for AL to coach.
3. LCC is thinking about brining back Manis Blair or Ed Whitaker on the boys, on the girls maybe John High coming out of retirement.
4. Al is done, has his pick of any other job in the region, rumor is AL is going to Bell Co to replace Lewis Morris, and Roscoe Shackelford is taking Haz over, Ed Whitaker will follow Al to Bell f he gets beat out for the Jenkins job.
5. Word is Hatcher wants out, maybe taking over the reigns at Riverside, or possiblly Jenkins girls, look for AL to come back to PCC or maybe Ed Whitaker.
6. JAckson City is thinking about laying down trampolines on the court and joining that league on Spike TV. Need a coach rumor is Kenneth Neace is interested.
7. Breathitt is going to let the Fugate boys be player/coach, like Bill Russell did. Should work out well for them.
8. Lee is wanting Danny Wright to step down to assistant and still coach, not going to hire a head coach to replace him.
9. Tim Sizemore is wanting to spend more time with his sons now that they're in grade school, hes just going to let them coach and be their assistant.
10. Powell is Kyle Lively goes back to JAckson City to be girls coach again expect Coldiron to come back to bring them back to their glory years of one trip to the state tournament.
11. CLark Stepp is going to coach JBS next season via the internet from a dorm at some NAIA school.

QB I mean not to be a smart behind, but tell me hal in the world my friend can one coach, coach two baskteball teams? how? No way QB, In Chris A. case i can not see a superintdent removing him as coach, ur taking about a team, girls closely knit together, playing the best ball they played in years. Why would anyone tear that up? MOUNTAIN HOOPS GURU I turely hope you are wrong about your information, i really hope so, for the sake of the girls, if there is something, i mean something to get rid of him for, should not have they already have goten rid of him? My infor. may be wrong, who knows, but i'll say this if you are right then it is nothing but politics.

You get your info from talk around town..... the people that sit around at gas stations and resturants and talk becasue they have nothing better to do, real reliable. As soon as you hear some old cogger say who the replacements arr going to be then please pass it on so we can all write it in stone.
