15th Region Tournament: Shelby Valley vs. Prestonsburg

I don't know if you are trying to be sarcastic or smart or what. I know I am not. I was just responding to someone making a judgement about Valley's boys based on one SV poster's comments.

Look I know your just being sarcastic, and i'm as far from a SV fan as you can get a complete 180 degrees from that, but this is really getting old. Everybody in their right mind knows good and well that SV will win this game. P-burg is not even remotely close to being on the same playing field as SV or Paintsville. That's pretty much it.

All I got is the blackcat pride

Lets try and keep these posts on-topic...

There is nothing wrong with people voting for there school, its just voting with school pride and its something that I deeply respect whether it be Prestonsburg or Marshall County. Its also not right to take anyone's opinion away just because they don't agree with you.

Good luck to Valley... Go Blackcats!

I didn't take anything away from anybody I was stating mine just like they did.

Everyone is pulling for their team. What is so wrong with that. I believe that the Blackcats have a chance. Who wants to bash me for that?

Did I point out anyone?

Exactly man, Shelby Valley might pull the upset but I think pburg has it in the bag.

I wasn't taking away anyones opinion, I just figured I haven't even seen 39 P-burg posters on here, so some people are voting in spite of Valley being on the poll and choosing P-burg because they don't want to see Valley win, and that's misleading, people will get on here and see this poll and think something is wrong with Valley's team, thinking people know something that he/she doesn't.

No that's definitely not it.

But it still doesnt matter who anyone votes for. Its just a pole to see what people think. Not interegate them on who they picked and why they did it.

I wouldn't worry about it.

Yeah, you are EXACTLY right.

First of all I didn't point anyone out. Yes it does look misleading but Prestonsburg has had Shelby Valley's number when they draw the Wildcats in the regional tourney. I remember back in '02 or '03 when Prestonsburg didn't win one district game the whole year, they got into the district tournament and won it. The next week they played Valley in the first round (Valley was the favorite that year to win the 15th) and Prestonsburg upset them.

Prestonsburg is capable of winning this game, some don't see that but they are one of the more athletic teams in the region. If they play to what they are capable of then they can at least make a game of it.
Everyone thinks Pburg has no shot at all in this one. If they can slow down the pace of the game and make there shots they can play with Valley, IMO when Pburg is on they are one of the better teams in the region and they have showed that at times this year. They are just inconsistent but if they show up to play they can make a game out of it. I dont understand why everyone thinks Valley is just going to walk away with this one by atleast 30 without even trying, just think back to last year when they luckily escaped Betsy Layne in the first round, no one expected that but it happened. If Pburg had no shot in this one they wouldnt even show up, the game is played for a reason. You never know when that George Mason team is going to show up at the tournament. Its March now, regular season doesnt matter.

I agree. No one would have thought that last season Betsy Layne could have played Valley that close. Prestonsburg can play with Valley, and possibly beat them, on a given night. It would be a huge upset, but it could happen.

Great Post!
Of course I want Valley to win! I am one of their biggest fans! I've said it before and I will say it again, these are awesome young men, both on and off the court! Most of them are Christians and are kind, caring, individuals. They are not perfect because only Jesus is perfect, but these young men work very hard and have great heart for the game. It breaks my heart when I get on here and read the negativity about them. I personally think it is pure jealously because these young men do nothing to deserve the behavior that is displayed about them other than to win most of their games. I wish people would give them the respect that they and every other athlete deserves. It takes hard work to play any type of sport and every athlete deserves to be respected and admired for all of the hard work that they put into playing! I think it is wonderful that Prestonsburg fans believe in their team and you should vote for them. If you win I will be so proud of you and congratulate you and if Shelby Valley wins I would hope you would do the same instead of being immature and jealous. I was appalled at the horrible sportsmanship that was displayed by some of the Blackcat mothers when they came to Shelby Valley. They yelled out things such as: "Sit down, ugly!' "Make your fouls count, knock 'em across the floor" "Look at those fatties in the Blue Crew! They don't have any class" I was totally shocked!!! So should we teach our kids if they are in a sports competition and the other team is getting the best of them, to hurt them??? How terribly wrong is that???Should we not show respect for the other team if they are winning??? And we wonder why so many of our kids end up in the judicial system??? I can imagine how God's heart must break when he sees such behavior. Ephesians 4:29 says "Let NO corrupt communication come out of your mouth ONLY that which is good......!!!" Wouldn't it be a better world if we could just listen to the One Who created us?? I'm sure not all of the parents are like this from Prestonsburg. There was some people who left at half-time who were probably some of the nicest people I have ever met, very kind and polite. They were there to watch someone on the JV team. When they left I began hearing all of the very poor sportsmanship being displayed. I have been praying for those moms and hope that they will realize what a horrible example they are setting for their kids and are leading them down a path to destruction! Again, I pray that no one will get hurt during the games, that the games will be called fair, that everyone will show good sportsmanship, and that God will keep everyone safe as they are traveling. Good Luck to Shelby Valley and Prestonsburg! I know that everyone will do their best and I know that God is proud of all of you, win or lose!

If you look at the poll results, then apparently quite a few people think that Prestonsburg has a really good shot to win. They have consistently been pulling in around 40% of the votes, so 2 out of every 5 voters on here think that P-Burg will be the better team come Thursday night.

And before everyone gets all upset, no one is saying that P-Burg fans can't vote for their team. Anyone can vote for whoever they want, that's the democratic way. But anyone without a dog in this fight would have to admit that it is still a little odd that so many people think that a team that enters this game at 9-18 is going to beat a team that comes in at 23-4 (who also won the earlier regular-season meeting by 32 points). Not being critical of anyone's individual votes, but the overall results DO look a little screwy.

You don't think it bothers me or other Blackcat fans when we get on here and read posts saying that we don't have a chance? When people said that, all it did was get the Blackcat faithful on here and made them post the things they did. What they said was unsportsmanlike but when seniors last games are on the line then people are going to back there team up, especially when it matters most.

I'm not trying to get under your skin but with the things you said are going to bother some people.

No offense MamaCat, but you need to listen to the other end of your cats and if you don't think they are participating in the action and the trash talking on the floor and the name calling to the other teams fan sections, well they are. They are alot of good Christians there to, but when these atmospheres come together it seems we all forget our sportmanship.

Please forgive me, I wasn't trying to get under anyone's skin either. Of course you have a right to be upset when people get on here and say you don't have a chance. I believe anything could happen at this point. You all have a good team and if you read my post you will see that I am wishing you luck and if you do win I will be happy for you! I truly admire the faith you have in your team! Again, please forgive me if I offended you!
Not the biggest P-burg fan in the world, but I would love to see the blackcats give everything they have and then some. But I just don't see it happening, Valley by 17 points. I'll be rooting for ya P-burg!

None taken! You are so right! I have said things to refs that I am totally ashamed of! I would never say anything to a child though and I have never heard any of our parents talk to athletes the way I heard that night and I have been traveling with these people for about 12 years now. Granted the Blue Crew may say some things that I totally disagree with but they are kids and I blame their parents for allowing them to act this way. It was just appalling to hear parents saying such mean things to kids! One of the mothers had gotten up to get ice for one of the hurt Blackcats and when she sat down, the mother keeping score turned around to ask her how he was and these mothers told her to "turn around and shut up and pay attention to what she was doing!" When the other mother tried to explain that she was just checking on their player, they told her to turn around and shut up, that they didn't want to hear her mouth! I know for a fact that not one of our parents would ever talk to another parent that way! They may get upset with the refs at times and say things to them but never to kids or parents! Please forgive me if I offended you but it has bothered me for a long time about how this handful of parents acted that night and I just needed to express my concern and plead with them to realize the example they are setting in front of their kids. Everything they do in sports can carry over into life and they should learn that when someone is getting the best of you is not cause to try to hurt them but to show respect instead! This is the way God would want it! Again, I wish both teams the best of luck!

Okay, let's end this right here. I would have to agree with what fairplayer said, that everyone seems to forget their sportsmanship at these games. No school can claim that their fans are completely innocent, NONE.

I'm sure every school has some overzealous parents or students who say things they shouldn't at the games, so don't anyone come on here and say their school's parents/students would never do it. It happens everywhere.

Anyway, let's end the pointless discussion of whatever some school's parents/pep section said, and get back to discussing the game. Further off-topic posts on this subject will result in infractions.

It is amazing how people lose control when it comes to their children. I guess we all (parents, players, coaches, & fans) need to remember that this is just a game. It is more important to teach our young men and women how to gracefully win, or lose and be able to handle stressful situations without such rage. Although, it is easy to allow emotions to take over in heated situations; but there in no excuse for such conduct.

But, as More Cowbell has suggested, I believe Valley will win by 25.
You cannot hold accountable what a pep section says. Pep sections are not being mean, they say mean things but they don't mean them intentionally, they just try to get under people's skin.

Pburg should walk away with an easy victory. Taylor Clark will be playing solid D on ashley hatfield and elisha. And bryant, jonah, newsom, and everyone else. They won't be able to do anything. Taylor is too athletic, he may not be the fastest person ever but he is quicker than anyone from Shelby Valley. Now, when we have to play an actually good team like Paintsville, it may be a different outcome. But Shelby Valley just doesn't have enough talent to stop us.
