Yeah ok man. Since you know EVERYTHING about high school football. You know everything about Powell County. Your so good you can even predict the wins/losses. NOT! Dude, if all your gonna do is put Powell County, don't even come in here. I mean, simple. You are a NOBODY! If all your gonna do is bash a team full of kids playing hard and giving it their all, just stay out of this thread.

If you are a player, you are very defensive. Big sign of insecurity. Letting people get in your head keeps you worrying about other things instead of focusing on what is important. Think about it for a second. If you are going to get better you can't let people get in your head. Everybody is created equal, they then, choose what to do with themselves.

Umm, if I was a player, you wouldn't have gotten into my head. I know what to focus on, and it aint argueing with you on BGR. Quit trying to be a psychiatrist, or however you spell it. Getting on here is not my main priority.

I am either in your head or aggrevating you! Either way I am in your head.

I think he has a good scheme for us. I think he will have the O line also. R Skeens will have TE and D line. T Puckett will have WR and coach JV. L Tiller will have DB, RB, and OLB. Coach Dubya has QBs and of course, is over all pos.
we need the rose kids dad to coach the defense, they seemed to do well in middle school with him.

That was middle school football. Totally different from high school football. Fugate will do good as the D coordinator.

Its a lot different. I wish I knew 1/4 of what I have learned in high school and take it back with me to middle school. So much more preparation. Most middle schools don't even break down film....not all, but most.irateSho

Oh yeah most definitely. If I knew as much stuff as I did in middle school, I would be an all-american!! LOL...jk

He hasn't been asked yet up to this point to coach at Powell this season. He knows the kids and what they can do. Work hard pirates!! What you do right now will make the difference.
The best offensive line coach and defensive coordinator in Powell County teaches and coaches at Montgomery County.

I agree with that statement!!!

Alright. This thread has gone on pretty peacefully for quite some time. If we want it to continue to remain open we need to get back to discussing the team and not picking at one another.
This is my only warning. The next time I will close the thread.

I'm not trying to pick at anyone. I simply think that coach would be a huge assett. He is a hometown boy and a good coach. As far as the team goes, I'm not sure Powell has the overall talent to compete year in and year out. In a school like Powell you need your best athletes to play all sports. That used to be an issue in the past, I'm not sure about now. Good luck to the Pirates next season.

Scotty Newsome broke his foot last week I think. He will be out for about 3-4 months. This will hurt the Pirates.

We would love to have B-Brew, but He is well etablished over there. He probably wouldn't come over here if asked. He done told me why he is over there anyway.

Also, Billy Rice broke his wrist awhile back. Not really sure how long he will be out. If he isn't back before the season starts, this will hurt the Pirates as well. He is a good passer when he has the time.

Powell has been working very hard in the weight room. I see them being better than last year.

Powell had over 40 out for spring ball. Had some talented new faces out as well. Stick with it boyz. Still need more out. This school has almost 800 kids and over half are boyz. Holler at your friends guyz. Get em' all to come out. They just might like it.

Although I don't comment much on the football teams and threads, I talked to Coach Whitaker a while back and he's been working hard with his team, trying to improve the program at Powell. He's been a very successful coach in the past. I just hope that his career at Powell won't diminish his reputation. He's worked so hard to help the kids, I just hope they have something to show for it when the season rolls around. He's had the kids in the weightroom nearly everday and on the field conditioning and running plays, trying new things. Good luck to Powell County next year. They'll need all the help they can get. And with their coach...success will come.

The Pirates had 12 guys run their 40's under 4.9 the other day. Our fastest person I think was Aaron who ran a 4.65. Our second fastest was Anthony Sons who ran a 4.66.

Huge improvements from last year! In the weight room and on speed. Keep working hard. "When you are satisfied.....you are done!" You should always want more!

Sorry, I forgot to put Aaron's last name. It was Elkins.

The pirates have been hitting the weight room very hard. Players are not only improving their strength but there speed as well. Having 12 players run a 40 in under 4.9 is just showing how hard they are working and proving that they want to be a team to beat next year. Keep it up guys.

That they are. They have a couple players squating over 400 lbs.

Everywhere coach Whitaker has been he has had unlimited talent. We are not loaded with the kind of talent he is used to having. We will have to work much harder or weaken our schedule like our neighboring county did to have a winning season. I did not see the team do any special things last year. The kids were usually out of practice by 5:30 or 6:00. I hope he see's he is going to have to adjust his style for us. We have not had a winning season and have not had any division 1 players come through hear and may never. So what we did last year was not enough.

Estill has 10 lineman that squat over 400, they won another big state lift competition also. Out of those 10 lineman, 8 of them run under a 4.9. Only problem, Breathitt, not as strong and fast but much better coached. Estill's top RB is a 4.5, the other two are low 4.7's, not going to matter, look for the same record out of them next year with their schedule. You guys put too much emphasis in strength!

Don't know where you are getting those #'s from. They do have some that are pretty strong, and a couple that have decent speed, but those numbers are not completely accurate. Their fastest returning RB runs in the mid 4.7 range and the other 2 or 3 run in the upper 4.7 / lower 4.8 range. One interior lineman runs a 5.0. and the rest are just a little slower. The ends run a 4.73 and a 5.0. As far as the over 400, there are 6 to 7. We're still pretty proud of our bunch nonetheless.

#'s will always be expanded.
