No Coach Jones never did take Powell to playoffs. Nobody said he did. They went to playoffs in 99, 00, 01.

Bruce Jones' record while at Powell Co. was 9-17. 2004 he went 4-6, 2005 he went 4-6 and 2007 he went 1-9. Per KHSAA. I don't see how you could declare this successful coaching. Once again, he does take the jobs that no one wants, but that is the problem with a lot of programs, they settle for a coach instead of trying to find a good one. I would rather hire a new coach with unknown possibilites instead a coach with a proven losing record. Those programs that settle will always struggle. I do want to state that I personally don't know Bruce Jones and he may be a great person and coach, but I think sometimes you have to look at their track record and whether or not they are looking to move into a school and community and become part of that school and community and not commute back and forth from his home town. This is a clear sign that he is not committed to the program. How can you get the kids to buy into his program if he cannot buy into the community and live in it.

So are you saying Coach Jones did not move to Phelps? Where does he live?

great post i agree with you...its so hard on a coach to begin with having to move around alot and alot of them dont even have their own kids in that school system and i just think you can tell they are not in it for the long haul when you see that happen, and they should really think on hiring coaches who are willing to put everything completely into it or not hire them..your program will never get better

Oh ok. I looked in the state championship program for this year, and it didn't say that. But whenever you get the chance, send it to me. And take your time, I'm in no rush lol.

As of November, I knew that he owned a home in Paris and commuted to Phelps on Mondays and back to Paris after the games on Fridays.

Coach was just as dedicated as a coach that lived in the same community. He actually slept in the office in the locker room cause he was looking over game film and trying to make up a game plan. 9-17 aint a great record, but it is good for a Powell County team.

Ok guys, I was just wanting to know where Coach Jones was possibly gonna coach at. I didn't wanna get into this big thing about how he was a good coach or bad coach. So lets just keep it on topic.

Slept in the locker room? Just sounds like it was cheap apartment. That sounds like a situation that should have never happened. No wonder it is a 1 and done.

Dude, he was going over game film. Can you not read the other part where I wrote? He was going over game film and making up game plans and all that. And it was actually a 3 and done. Learn how to count.

He was just going over game film and it got really late. I would've done the same thing if I lived 2 hours away. He was a very dedicated man.

dont get upset its very unorthodox for a coach to do this, and it is also strange for him to drive that long...you know considering what he was paid and gas prices he might have been losing money coaching phelps...you have to let people to react to that without getting mad because it is strange

I know I shouldn't, but it really gets on my nerves when people dog on Coach Jones.

You have had your warning. Please do NOT bash the man if he wished to stay in his office and watch game film. That was/is his choice and bashing him for doing so will not be tolerated. As long as it stays on topic and civil.... it will remain open.

well he's obviously had a great impact on you and most coaches will say that if they reach one kid then that will make them successful, so i guess that means he is definetely a successful coach right?

So, why should a "Powell County team" settle for less??????
