Bruce Jones was at Powell Co. before he came to Phelps. He is looking to take any job that he can get. I know he has inquired about 3 jobs specifically. He has inquired into the Shawnee, Owen Co. and Jeffersontown.

Is there any fact that he has resigned at Phelps yet?

Coach Jones will not be back at Phelps. Also, Phelps has gotten a scrimmage for 8/22 @ Leslie Co.
02-20-2008, 01:24 PM
What good is a scrimmage without a coach?
02-20-2008, 04:46 PM
Sounds like a real winner to me! If he gets one of those jobs, is he going to coach one year, and then apply for everything that comes open in 2009? Why would one of those schools hire this guy? Sounds like Phelps is better off.

They will also be in the East Ridge "Teco Coal Bowl Kickoff Classic." Who they will be playing is TBA.

Believe me, Phelps wasn't better off. If you saw one of the Phelps games, he barely had enough players to make a team. And you can't coach a team with 13-15 players each game. I mean, please forgive him if he don't like to coach in those condtions. I mean, he is such a bad person for not wanting to go back to a coaching job. Why don' you go coach at Phelps and see how good you are.

And if he has the chance, he will coach there till he dies. He never gives up on a team. He is probably the best coach that has ever taught me the game of football. I have learned so much for him.

Coach Jones is a great coach and person!

And I made a mistake about why he left. It wasn't because of the lack of dedication, it was family reasons. I mean this man couldn't even go home during the week.

He is a great man and coach. He culd turn any program around if he gets the chance to do it. He knows what he is doing.

Why was he not able to turn around Powell Co. and Phelps then?

Well, his first two seasons he went what, 4-6? His second season he went 3-0 first games, and his first season he beat Lewis and West Carter. For the first time in school history. Was one game away in each of his first two seasons from going to playoffs. And the admimistration ran him out of Powell County. If they would've given him time, he would've turned Powell around. He was already working on it. Oh, and his second season, he had one of the best defenses in state. As for Phelps, he had a lot of injuries. If you watched the games, they barely had enough players to play.

One of his job as a coach is to get more kids out to play. So the injuries excuse doesn'y fly with me. His first two years at Powell he was 4-6. His third year he was 1-9. That doesn't constitute a turn around for the good. That is why he was run out of Powell Co. 9-21 record in three years with him and a 7-24 record the previous three years. Not much turn around my friend.

I have to agree with HAMMERTIME.

who is phelps looking at?
02-21-2008, 10:01 PM
I would not think that Phelps is looking at anybody, but rather Phelps is hoping, with fingers crossed, that they can find somebody to take the job!!!

When was Coach Jones' first year at Powell County?

Phelps will find someone. I think they will hire a local face from the phelps area though.

i think alot of the things about coach jones were inaccurate...i had once heard he took them to the playoffs for the first time in school history but according to the khsaa website their first playoff appearance was back in 1996 almost 12 years ago...

Well my friend, you have to give people time to turn things around. Egypt wasn't built in a day. And the injuries happened close to the middle of the season. So I don't really care if it don't "fly" with you.
