From an outside point of view covering the past 8-9 years of pikeville football could some one please explain the progress the program has made over the past 3 years. Looking back on the previous coaches record on the Khsaa web site I found 3 regional championships in 6 years and 2 other loses in regional finals. Pikeville with it last hire only made it to the regional finals this year 2007 under the new staff.Was the talent down that much? Many things have changed in class 1A from then to now. I see some support for a current coach on staff from the head coach that just quit, but no one has issued any statements of sucess on the field or for the program itself.

In my honest assessment I believe that Pikeville was in a steady decline because of the lack of enthusiasm that McNamee put into the program. The entire program from top to bottom was in a steady decline from the time he took over. He is a really coordinator or could be a decent coach at a school where not a lot is expected. Just my opinion though.

So supposedly living all the way out in Oregon makes you a better judge for who should lead our school? That makes no sense. You have to be so far out of the loop that you don't even know any of the kids names outside of one or two of the better players. What makes you think that Copley is not the best choice. As far as the kids go I know that no one cares more about these kids not only as football players but as human beings in the real world as well. He is a young guy with an almost old school approach, the best of both worlds. Numbers were going down for whatever reason, but since Copley started being the interim in charge there have been a steady stream of 40-50 kids in the weight room 4 days a week. I know this trend would continue under Copley.

I am not to judge how one runs a program but the facts are the facts. Let me give you some of them. Pikeville's LL program now has been reorganized as to the rules and ideas the way the games are to be played. In no way are they developed into a future program for the High School. No set schemes and total disorganization for the most part concerning coaching and fundementals being taught to the 3-4 grade and the 5-6 grade teams. Who ever gets the job must institute their own ideas and run with them with the full support of using the high school staff to clinic the coaches at the mentioned levels. The people in the know as you say ,saw down years to come? The talent pikeville has had over the past 3 years has been remarkable. Show me more skill kids on any team in class 1a or 2a this year and the line was not exactly inexperienced. Historically pikeville has had a run of either great skill or good lineman. What is down about a class of 12 to 14 freshman winning a regional championship and moving on to their sophmore year with leader such as will lockhart, weston robinson, ryan maynard, tim champlin, and chase huffman etc.
Whats down about that? Coach Mcnamee has his reason for coaching the way he did as does every coach. Many factors are always left out of the equations when "people" that are on the in, speak. During Mcnamee's tenure he had an appointed LL director that was a part of his staff. Casey Lequire now a coach at Belfry was hired as LL director and had a total motivation of making the programs sucessful and for them to be a feder program for the High School. Politics got in the way and the principal at the time at the elementry assigned a female teacher to the position who inturn ran it for a short while giving the duties to kevin garris. The attempt was made, support was not. The Jr high level was not the most organized program due to the long run of a specific coach that tried but was not willing to be at meetings and involved with the varsity staff. He was removed and our DPP Mr Johnson took over the JR high program and was very suscessful. As stated before coaches have different ways and ideas for off season conditioning. For anyone to say that the 3regional championships and 2 runner up trophies were not earned in the offseason ,they were not involved in the 6:00am workouts for the basketball players doing specific basketball lifts to keep them in shape until after the season, or the 2 hour, 3 day a week work outs that also included speed work on tuesdays and or thursdays. People some seem to forget the hard work and dedication by many that it takes to be sucessful. You dont have to work out 5 times a week to be sucessful. Talking to a supporter of PHS he told me that they added a weight lifting class after Mcnamee left. Utilized properly this can be a great tool for a program. They also said in upwards of 15,000 was spent to totally renovate the weight room after he left. If anyone knows Chris these had to be things he also wanted but was not given. What all of the supporters of the PHS program I have spoken with over the past 8 years want to win and all of them have been totally in support of what coach Mac did for their program. You wont find a kid who played for him who will say he did not ask everything of them and demand his coaches and players to be upstanding community members and dedicated panthers . Long point made simple , in life if your doing the correct things you dont have to tell everyone about how hard your working or how much time your putting in. Some want to promote themselves not their team or the program the are in.

IF memory serves me correctly they had won 6 games and had one of the best years in school history the year before he got there. One of the problems seems to be dealing with the parents of current or prospective players. It always will be a political position as much as a coaching position. The only thing that can hold off the politics is winning and doing it often. With Class "A" thinned out a little with the expansion to six class football, Pikeville should find it just a little easier to bring home regional titles and possibly a state championship.

But back to finding a coach, I feel they need to look out of the area and possibly out of the state. Find someone with the qualifications they are looking for who has no ties to anyone in the community, therefore his only allegiance is to the school and players who wish to put on the gear and sweat it out during 95 degree two-a-days and below freezing temperatures in November. Some one from the outside will only cause more distance from lousiville than already exists. Good luck finding a job for your wife with a proposed education cut of 7% and the vast job openings that exist in pikeville, and finding a house that one can make fit the budget. If you cant make the other half happy you wont be here long period. The community is the reason PHS is what it is . A coach that can have thick skin and develop a positive relationship without giving into the vast knowledge so many of the people in Pikeville have about football. Just run your own program and put your heart into the community and the program ,not wanting this job to be a stepping stone for another job but actually making this program the focus of your career.

Not a positive spin at all. Just the facts. You can do what your allowed to do through the adminstration involved. I never said Mac , had the perfect ideal program or philosophy. I also cant judge what he has done at PC. I would believe common knowledge would tell you talent would be the reason to your answer. Reasons occur that make men decide to change. I am not judging Jackson for leaving, I believe it is a better opportunity for him, not to judge Mac for leaving, but with the opportunity 3 yrs ago ,Chris could have seen it as something that needed to be done at that time for personal,family or what ever reason. People have to live by the decisions they make, and with those decisions come public opinion. I respect your opinion but will disagree about him leaving the programs LL and JR High is bad shape just look at the talent for the past few years and in JR HIgh now. It is quite evident that you support Copley. And I can respect that. But just because 40-50 kids are lifting weights does not mean 40-50 will show up in July in the middle of the heat. Of course we all hope that they do.
