I wasnt to make a comment on the calls, and this one is not a judgment call. It is wrote in the rules solid as can be. Baker was at the free throw line in the first OT. Hit the first one. The ref hands him the ball. The ref backs up away from Baker so he can shoot it. Bill Mike who was roughly 45-50 foot away from the ref that handed Baker the ball tells one of his players when he wants a time out with another ref less than 5 foot away. The first ref blows the whistle, runs back to the free throw line, takes the ball away from Baker, and gives Paintsville the TO. My argument is once he gives the player the ball for the free throws, the other team CAN NOT call a time out until after he shoot is. The ref that gave Baker the ball to shoot is the same one who called the TO and took it away from Baker. The end result, Baker missed the second free throw, Pikeville was up by 2 at the end of the first OT. Baker may or may not have hit the second if he wasnt iced during the time out. But it allowed Landon to drive down, get a rebound and a put back to tie it up for the second OT. Being down 2 with seconds to go is different than being down 3 which might or might not have have been what happened.
It looked liked Slone was talking to BMR about what to do when they got the ball. If he had wanted to call TO he would have told the ref under the goal. They messed up on this call even if he wanted a TO it was to late to call it, maybe I'm wrong but I thought when a player is handed the ball the defense can't get a TO unless on a scored basket.

And at the time, I thought it was wrong that the ref made Paintsville take the TO. It shouldn't have happened, but am glad it worked the way it did. Not saying that the TO is what caused Baker to miss, but it didn't help. He still had the same 15 foot shot.
On another note, this all happened at the end of regulation. Paintsville held the ball for over 2 minutes and then took a horrible shot to try and win at the end of the first OT.
But yes, I thought the to called by Walker was one of many, many things that could have caused the game to go one way or another. Bummer.
But Paintsville has to be given credit for coming back to even put such calls or no calls or a play here or a play there to even be considered having an effect on the outcome.
Congrats Tigers. Panthers,....some have said that this should be a wake-up call for Valley and Paintsville. I am not so sure of that. I think it might have been the wake up call for Pikeville. Now they know for sure they are to be reckoned with and maybe, just maybe, this sleeping giant has awakened.

Good win Tigers. Coach Williams and Pikeville squad really impressed me. They clearly have established themselves a spot at the big table. As for all the negative comments on here about how this senior class at Paintsville has been predicited winning the whole thing for years but always disappoint. I remind you those young men at least stayed for the FINAL hour of the All A prom held at Betsy Lane.

This was an up and down rollercoaster of a game. 2nd quarter is were Paintsville really killed themselves only scoring 5 points the whole quarter. I would have to say Pikeville having a 58-50 lead with about 2 or 3 minutes to go I thought along with everyone around me that Paintsville was beat, it was obvious and the Pikeville fans felt it as well. Those last 2 minutes were probably some of the best basketball I have ever seen. Slone put in that last second layup to send the game to OT was an awesome moment and put Paintsville in the drivers seat.
Both of these teams played with intensity, heart and left everything out on the court. I agree it did hurt when Honaker, Bell, and Adams fouled out, when you lose 3 starters like that it's going to hurt. Clevenger is a heck of a ball player, he played the best game out there and left everything on the court. No one deserved to lose this game that is for sure.
But for the refreeing? Wow is all I have to say. A lot I mean a lot of missed calls and blown calls in this one. Probably the worst officiated game in a long time, don't get me wrong these refs go out there and they do their job and they get the most heat out of anyone because, well the rep for a 15th region referee isn't all that bright, but tonight the two Mike's and the other ref (who is from West Virginia) really wasn't on top of their game.
Coach Runyon of course is one of the most legendary coaches in the 15th and the whole state for that matter. He is a great coach who gets the best out of his players and wants what is best for them. But there is an up and coming coach on the rise and that is Bart Williams of Pikeville. IMO the most underrated and overlooked coach in the 15th. You always hear about Runyon, Booher, Martin but it's hardly ever Bart Williams. Great coach and hes doing some great things up in Pike County.
Well this is all I have to say about the game, other than it turned out to be a slobberknocker. A lot of ups and downs and congrats to Paintsville and good luck at Richmond next week.

I think Bill Mike was just wanting a timeout if Baker made the free throw, he didn't want the timeout at that point in time but he did signal for the timeout. Then Walker takes the ball away from Baker, discussed with Runyon and awards him the timeout and the rest is history. The 15th Regions Finest!

aww now we have school

-I talked to some Pikeville players and they all seem to think it was an easy win and that Paintsville wasnt good enough to beat South Floyd by that much, it was just the fact that South Floyd sucked.
Once again, not my words. I think Paintsvilles a good lookin team

First of all congrats Paintsville. You have a great team and best of luck in Richmond. Second, for all the people that were disappointed that the final game was not the match up everyone was waiting for.....I don't think anyone could have asked for a more exciting game to watch. Like someone said previously, this game had it all, the dunk, 1/2 court shot, last second shot, two OT's but the best part was the great sportsmanship by both teams when the game was over. These two teams have a great deal of respect for each other. Thanks to the players and coaching staff from Pikeville for shaking things up in the 15th and making this All A one of the most exciting on record!

Paintsville's coaches and players think this is a 3 team region now. It doesnt matter what a little kid thinks. Pikeville might have 2 more chances at Paintsville this year, and I am willing to bet that baring injuries, both will be a dog fight like this one was.
It's not the size of the dog in the fight. It is the size of the fight in the dog.

This was a very exciting game to watch. However the ref's were AWFUL. There were so many no calls in the game. They really drilled Pikeville at the end of regulation when they didn't call the walk. I think this will be a good re-match possibly in the regional tournament.

Panther Thunder Wrote:Are you serious? Pikeville was the huge underdog and almost come out with their second upset in a row to a team with 6 senoirs and you think they didn't want it? That would be the last reason Paintsville won. Pikeville played a great game until the last two minutes and then they choked.
Villefan is right, the Paintsville Tigers just wanted this one more an gave 110% of effort. They also never gave up, even when they were down by 12.

The radio had Paintsville down for 18 offensive rebounds. That is huge for a team that's tallest player is 6'2" going against Pikeville's 6'8" Adams. I think Pikeville had 2 off. boards.

And I doubt he sat nearly a forth of the regulation game, but maybe he did.

Only because of the time he missed when he fouled out...He sat out maybe 3 or 4 mins. of his actual playing time...

Either way Devin was fouled out...Which is a part of the game...Paintsville still is the back-2-back all a champs...No matter what anyone takes or says about the game, they cant take this game away from the Tigers...IT IS WHAT IT IS!

One overlooked mistake by the veteran crew was after giving the ball to Baker at 10 sec (fT shooter) still allowing BMR the timeout. Great game though Pikeville will continue their steady improvement under Willliams. good luck to Bill Mike and the Tigers.
