Paintsville-72 Pikeville-69 (2OT) - 15th Region All "A" Classic
#31
Junk Yard Dog Wrote:This was a great game. Paintsville really turned it up on D in the last quarter. As a result Pikeville made way too many TO's and it cost them. Slone made a great play at the end of regulation to put the game into OT. If Pikeville makes another FT at the end of the 4th with 10 secs to go they maybe win. Pikeville had to play short handed w/o Adams and Honaker in OT. The Tigers held the ball for the last 2 minutes of OT while Pikeville laid back in a 2/3. Paintsville was finaly able to take advantage of Pikeville playing short handed in the 2nd OT and put it away.

The reason there D steped up is because pikeville had 3 starters out i promise you if Bell, Tim, and Big D would not have been out pikeville would have won this game.

They were all still in at this time. They were in quarters 1,2,3 and 4 so if these players are so great then why couldn't they get the job done ?

Bell and Big D fouled out a little over half way through the 4th.

I know this game could go down as one of the most recent greats. This game should be on ESPN classic tomorrow, lol.

It's easy to say that, but the truth is there is no way of knowing. Fouling out is part of the game too.

Sad thing about that is there won't be near as much hype as tonight's game. Not saying it won't be a big game but not as big as tonight's.

Bell fouled out with about 3:40 to play in the fourth. He shouldn' have fouled out at all because 2 of his fouls were actually fouls that "Big D" coomitted and Hall gave them to Bell. They also gave 2 fouls to Honaker that were "Big D's"! "Big D" had a good game but was not much oif a factor in the fourth at all. IMO, Pikeville would have been better off if Devon had fouled out around halfway through the third like he should have and Bell and Honaker would have never fouled out.
"Big D" fouled out with 18 seconds to play in regulation.

CONGRATS TO THE TIGERS! Pikeville played a great game! They are for real. Paintsville didn't play their best game tonight, but that is the way it goes. But the Tigers put forth one of their best efforts that I have seen in a while to do whatever it took to win. They overcame a lot in this game, not the least of which was their own sub-par performance (especially in the first 2 quarters). And they still won!! Hats off to the Tigers!!

The best team won tonight. That is all that this means. The what-ifs are irrelevant. If you play that game, you could say, what if Pikeville hadn't made that 3/4 court heave shot. What if Landon had shot the ball better. You see where this goes and it works both ways. Bottom line: The Tigers, despite their sub-par first half, found a way to win! That is what good teams do!

CONGRATS TIGERS! GOOD LUCK IN RICHMOND!

Congrats Tigers! I thought that Bundy played great in the overtimes and came up with 2 huge offensive rebounds! Landon played cool under fire. Everyone played hard!
Clevenger played a great game and left everything on the court!!! Hat's off young man! Actually everybody from both teams played their hearts out!

Panther Thunder Wrote:Pikeville killed themselves in this one. They starting playing not to lose and they lost.

You got to be kidding me. Pikeville played a great game and certainly didn't play not to lose. They played their hearts out for the entire game and you might want to sit back and watch these panthers come on strong for the rest of the year. They still have a young team and will learn from this game but to beat Valley and then lead Paintsville the entire game until the game was tied at one second on the clock, this game was not one where Pikeville killed themselves. They did make mistakes down the stretch but Paintsville did the same thing the entire game.

This is, without a doubt, the best post I have read on Blue Grass Rivals!

Amen.

I think both teams played very hard tonight. It was a dog fight from the start to the finish in two overtimes. As far as the refs are concerned, my statement is the same as last night, they made good calls and bad calls according to where you was sitting. Pikeville made a good showing again in a game that they wasnt supposed to even be in. Paintsville played a good game, they seemed to be taken out of their game the first half. One thing for sure, and it was mentioned earlier, this isnt a two team region anymore. My hat goes off to Paintsville and I hope they go to Richmond and represent the 15th in a positive note. I would love to see them bring home a trophy back to Eastern Kentucky. I think Paintsville was very proud to win, and I think that Pikeville should be very proud of the way they played. Keep your heads up boys and get ready for your next game.
It's not the size of the dog in the fight. It is the size of the fight in the dog.

I think Pikeville made it clear in this tournament the 15th isn't exactly a two team race anymore. jmo

You are right about Big D having some of his fouls pinned on others. I don't know if the refs were being protective or what, but I guess they had to be called on someone. Way too many non-calls in this game also. Anyway, it doesn't matter. The Tigers overcame it. The Panthers are a good team and are capable of beating anyone in the 15th. Hats off to Williams for an outstanding coaching job in having this team ready to play SV and Paintsville.

I'm not saying they determined who won the game, but I saw several calls I thought were terrible. jmo! They went both ways though.

IMO the biggest no call there was...Was at the end of Regulation when landon Slone was going for the tie he took about 5 steps with about 4 seconds left.

Sounds like it was a barn burner. Nice Win Paintsville

More like a golf ball burner.

It was close, but if not it was a great play by Slone. jmo

The biggest call was 0.3 secs(which when under 0.4 has to be a tip)...Clevenger heaved it at half court...and it shouldnt have counted...he caught it and heaved it...clock didnt start i dont think...but the refs kno that it had to be a tip..couldve cost the tigers the game..

That's a very good point.

Yea it may have been but the call i was talking about was the game changing play.

Good point, but it looked good to me. BMR didn't dispute the call

Non calls but Painstville overcame it. Paintsville shot 33 free throws in this game. Pikeville had 3 starters FOUL OUT!! How many more calls should Paintsville have gotten? Just wondering!!!
#59
This was one of the best games ever. It was a great game. Pikeville lead most if not the whole game. The tigers played there guts out and just wanted it more. JMO> But it was great game and hats off to both teams on a good game and well played torny.
#60
IMO saying "Paintsville played better down the stretch" is much better than saying "They wanted it more". I think Pikeville wanted it just as bad as Paintsville, but the Tigers managed to perform better late in the game. jmo
