What does the new Pikeville football coach need to do to get the program back to one of the elite programs in the state?

The new coach needs to know the players and their personalities and abilities, he needs to have an excellent weight program, he needs to be passionate not only about football but about Pikeville as a whole, he needs to know some of the history behind PHS football, he needs to be willing to run this program from little league on up, he needs to be someone that will not take off of football for any reason, he needs to personable and professional with his administration, staff, and players.

I think the Panther Faithful wants someone to takeover starting with the little league and work it all the way to the varsity level. I think it's a shame that the previous head coach couldn't get but only 2 j.v. games last year. IMO that showed that he just wasn't really into panther football. The next coach needs to bring an exciting offensive style and a very aggresive hard hitting defense.We need someone that's not going to be a puppet on a string and run the program his way. Sounds like he was here at one time. Oh yea his name JOHN CHAPMAN. Bring back Coach Chapman!!!!!

This is probably one of the best responses that I have seen to this topic. People always believe the the top programs have to recruit to stay up there, but recruiting isn't done by people, it is done by the desire to play at the top level. The school recruits for itself.

I may be wrong but I don't think the pikeville people want one of the best programs in eastern Ky. They want a program that is one of the elite programs in the state.
I not sure that people out side of Pike County think that Pikeville is one of the better teams in the mountians.

You couldnt be anymore wrong about Jackson not caring about this program. The reason he had to cancel his JV games is because at one time during the season he only had 20 kids healthy and didnt want to take a chance on getting any more hurt.

The development of the pikeville football program needs to be the priority of people that are rooted in this community and that have a genuine interest in the promotion of the past, present and future of the program. History will not return full circle until they find people that have been to louisville as a player or coach and understand what its like to to feel the heart beat of championships, not just go to the state clinics and watch the games from the stands.

No. And I'm assuming by your name your from Pike Central, so stick to Girl's bball and leave the football to us. But metioning Beechwood I would try to get a yearly game with them. And as for Hazard moving up I would almost want Pikeville to move up and get out of that Pathetic District. And it may raise interest in football not being in the lowest class. And many years they would be the best team in the new district (Prestonsburg on other years)

The days of students transfering for sports is at its end. The KHSAA rules and regulations will not approve or allow student athletes to go to another school with out approvial of specific guidelines. Things have changed from the 1980's.

ask Ronnie Haddix this same question, you can play more than 4 years of varsity, but only if you do it at ONE school, he played as an 8th grader at Lexington Catholic and then Fresh - Junior at Scott County, KHSAA ruled he had no eligibility left, he had to attend Findlay Prep in Nevada (same school that DeAndre Liggins plays for), broke his foot early in his senior year, had to come back to Scott County and graduate and watch his old teammates win a state title

They also changed the rule again about transferring mid season, ala Matt Baker from Valley to Allen Central (to play with Jeremy Hall, they still didnt win the region).

What year(s) are you talking about here? Joplin has helped with the program at Phelps on and off for several years. When I was in school back in the 80's he coached a VERY good team there that went 10-0 regular season... It was either 84 or 85?? Not sure which...

Not to mention that arguably the best current SV B-ball player lives at Phelps. I didnt think you could get from Phelps to Virgie without a helicopter being involved LOL! Like has been said on here before good players are drawn to good programs without back room deals and rubber stamp jobs being given to players or their families. While I dont doubt this has taken place in the past. I think all these wild recruiting stories are something blown way out of proportion by these other schools who use it as an excuse rather than admit that they have inferior programs and these kids left because they felt they had a better shot at a state title elsewhere.

His dad coached after JI graduated. Butch was an employee of the school and a coach for Pikeville. There are reasons why Harmon transferred that I will not discuss with anyone on here! The man who raised the Bailey boys has been working and living in Pikeville for as long as I can remember.
