There Are Car Wrecks ....
#1
They are wrecks all over 23 from what I understand, and quite a few more threw out the area of Prestonsburg from what I understand, Even some on 80. Due to the weather...
#2
There have been a lot... I've heard of them on the Mountain Parkway, 23 and downtown Prestonsburg so I'm sure they are all over eastern KY.
WYMT is saying there has been an accident on US 460 at the Johnson/Magoffin County line with at least one person dead and that everyone should avoid using that road.

A second accident in Magoffin County has left one person dead.
We're told the accident involved a coal truck, a police car and an ambulance.
Officials are telling WYMT everyone should avoid U.S. 460 at the Johnson/Magoffin County line.
Stay tuned to WYMT and www.wymtnews.com for the latest updates.

I have heard that U.S. 23 in Pike County has been closed on Fords Branch hill (just south of Pikeville). I have also heard of multiple car wrecks in the area.

Icy roads were being blamed hundreds of accidents across the state Tuesday morning, including one that killed an emergency official and a pregnant woman in eastern Kentucky.
Paintsville EMS Director Christa Burchett was helping a pregnant woman injured in a car accident when a coal truck skidded and struck both women, killing them, Johnson County Judge-Executive Tucker Daniel said.
Daniel said the accident occurred off U.S. 460, about 5 miles west of Paintsville, where the roads were slippery with light snow
and slushy ice. He said Burchett was helping the woman, whose car had skidded off the road, into an ambulance.
Daniel said the coal truck was coming over a hill and braked, but slammed into a police cruiser and ultimately the two victims.
No other serious injuries were reported.
Some school systems canceled classes because of the threat of slick roads.

That's awful. What is or was the weather like in East Kentucky. It snowed here in Lexington but was it just really icy or what?

In Paintsville we got a little snow that covered the streets around 7:30-7:45 this morning. Then around 8:30 it started turning into sleet, making it very slick. Now it just seem to be drizzle, but could get nasty again if temps drop.

My prayers are with all that have to travel today. But my heart and prayers are with all of those who have lost loved ones from this.

My thoughts and prayers are with the ones in the accidents... Ice covered everything here in Prestonsburg. I don't know if its still like this but it was real slick this morning.
#21
From what I've heard it is supposed to be about the same conditions tomorrow morning due to the temps dropping and refreezing everything over again. Just hope everyone stays indoors and doesnt get out on the road, and my prayers are also with all of the people that have been in accidents today.

Prayers go out to all affected by these accidents! To everyone else, please be careful! I know the roads are better now but there is still a threat of danger

What's even more sad about this whole situation is the pregnant woman's husband works at the Sheriff's Dept. in Magoffin County. She called him and told him she was in an accident and that she was waitin on the ambulance. When Magoffin County Sheriff went to tell the man his wife had been in an accident he told him he already knew about it that she called him and told him, unaware of what happened after he talked to her.

Thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family and anyone else who might have been injured/killed in wrecks today.

I heard that story on the news tonight, it had to be the saddest thing. To think that she was ok because he had spoke to her only to find out otherwise. My thoughts and prayers are with those that are affected.

OMG....might be the saddest story I have EVER heard of in my life. Thoughts and Prayers to everyone who lost someone today. Everyone needs to take that extra precaution when traveling on roads like this and be VERY CAREFUL! Be Safe!

KSP Post 9 worked 60 alone. I wonder how many wrecks there were on Route 80?
