Tate Cox
#1
I figured since you said this about Landon Slone and Elisha Justice, see where this goes...
Just wondering what everyone thinks about him and his future...
I think he is a great GREAT player and that much more fun to watch, so smooth, makes everyone better.
As for Elisha, height will be a factor on how big of a college he gets to go to, i believe... whats your opinions on this kid??
#2
IMO once Clark is gone...Cox will shine...I see Tate going somewheres like eku or somewhere along that line.
#3
I really haven't seen Tate play as much as I have Landon or Elisha, but the few times I have seen him play this kid is a pure smooth player. He is a great player in every aspect of the game and will make a lot of noise whenever Clark is gone. Everyone knows that he is overshadowed by the Stepps but that doesn't take away the fact that he is a great player.
#4
Great player. I believe he is the best player in the region. Height may be a factor. They list him a 6 foot but it's more like 5' 10.

But you still have Clint coming up. He will be the one to shine when Clark graduates.
It's not the size of the dog in the fight. It is the size of the fight in the dog.

I have watched Tate play since he was in the third grade. At this time in his basketball career, IMO it would be hard to find a player with as much basketball knowledge and the FEEL for the game as he has developed as only a sophmore in high school. Everyone that watches JBS, knows that Tate is the backbone of this team. He makes everyone around him bring their game to the next level. A true team leader on the court and off the court a fine young man that Jim and Lisa Cox are very proud of. The sky is the limit for this young man . Looking forward to watch him play basketball for many more years to come.

Tate will be plating point and will distribute the ball to who is open. He doesnt play any favorites when he plays point some now and he makes everyone around him better.

Sad but true, Cox is a great player and one of the nicest kids in the area, I wish him all the best

Needs to go somewhere else if he's going to get any reconition. Someone told me he's averaging 10ppg, thats not going to get him much attention, he's get passed up by alot of players in the 14th imop.
#10
He might play for alc but nowhere else. Too short.

He averages more than 10 a game...He is getting plenty of recognition and has college offers already as a sophomore...Rick Bolus ranked him the #12 player in the state...

What I meant was he's having a sub-par sophmore year, and some other players in the region are having much better years, so I doubt he will be as highly touted as he was going into this season as he will next year. He will probably be rated 7-10 best player in the region next year when he should be rated number 1 but he wont since he doesnt factor in the offense over there.

Some other players may average more points a game than he does but they dont play for a team ranked #8 in Courier Journal rankings. College coaches dont look at how many points a player averages in high school because those numbers can be inflated very easily. Some players in the region may average 25 points a game but their team could have a losing record. When a kid like Tate plays on a team that starts 5 kids that will play college ball then he is not going to average 25 a game. Darius Miller averages around 17 a game and Andre Liggins that signed with UK also averages around 10 a game because the team he plays on is very talented. College coaches look at alot more than how many points you score a game. MHO

Yes he is short. But he has the skills to play for a mid-major.
#15
Like Justice he will also play NAIA if he plays college ball.

I think you guys are selling Tate Cox a little short. Winner, great kid, team player who will play wherever he wants to. One of the most humble kids who ever laced a pair of sneakers on. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a knucklehead who doesn't have a clue. Quit trying to cause bickering between he and his teammates. They ARE the defending 14th region champs and until they lose a regional game----they are still the champs.Raven Boy--you do not have a clue as to what it takes to be a college ballplayer, so get off this kid's back and sit and marvel that he is a kid from Eastern Ky that is successful and WILL be successful at the next level. END OF STORY !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree 100%. Tate is one of the finest young men that I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. He is one of the best athletes in Eastern Kentucky; if not the "best". You don't have to be a JBS fan to see that this kid is the real deal both on and off the court. Best wishes Tate in the remainder of you high school years and there after.

I truly believe this young man could excel at Kentucky. Put him as the PG with the likes of Patterson, Miller, Liggins, maybe Hopson, Stewart, Meeks, Jasper, and the will work his butt off to make those guys great scorers, and better players.

He has played against bigger players, and great players, all his basketball life, and has never failed. AAU, JBS, All-Star camps. All of them, and he has been one of the very best.

As someone mentioned, his smarts on the basketball floor are second-to-none. Great ball handler, smooth jumpshot, able to create on the drive and his own shot. UK and Billy Gillespie would be very, very smart to give this kid a serious, serious look and a chance!!!!

You obviously don't understand the kind of player and athlete it takes to play major division 1 basketball, that is the most rediculous statement I have ever seen on this site. He is not a D1 bb player. I'll give you good kid, smart player, great person and all that, but that doesn't make you a major D1 player. I still say NAIA. You would be surprised at that level of competition and there's alot of players at the NAIA level better that Cox. I wish him the best though, good high school player, but IMO not even the best Sophomore in the 14th. I would say Whitaker is.

i think you are wrong. I think he has what it takes, He is one of the best players that i have ever had the pleasure of watching. Not to mention what a fine young man he is as well.

Not even close..It is just my opinion though but Tate is pure, and I think he could play D1 without a doubt! I would put him against any guard anywhere as A SOPHOMORE!

To me it looks as though RavenBoy gave his opinion and thats all. So, why do you start the name calling this is what gets everything started. People don't see as you do and by calling them names (knucklehaed) causes nothing but problems. RavenBoy said nothing out of the way but you did. RavenBoy did not get personal but you did.

Let's remember that Morehead State and EKU are both D1 bball schools. He could play for either of these. Sometimes the small D1 schools are not as good as the top NAIA schools (i.e. Georgetown).

The best player in the region . Just the opinion of another expert
#26
This kid can flat out play ball...he will be the best in the region next year no doubt.....i also see him def. going d-1.....he was rated in the top 20 in the state this year and he is only a sophmore so what more can you ask for
#27
I think he got his average 10 last night.....I think he made every shot he took...5. I think that he is one of the best shooters in the region but he"s only getting five to six shots a game what gives?
#28
He is not shooting that much because this year is clarks year...next year clark will be gone and it will be tate's time to shine
#29
Tate should go to scott county or lexington catholic ... if he does he will end up at uk playing
