2008 Pikeville Panthers

If...Then Wrote:South Floyd?? are they supposed to look good next year or something?

Id absolutely love Pikeville to go 8-0
They return a lot of experience and have IMO one of the best coaches in the mountains. They don't make many mistakes and grind the clock easily with their ground game. Pikeville could win by a few scores but they aren't just going to roll over and die.

INMO. I look for them to add a more DIVERSIFIED offense next season to better suit ALL there running talent, such as a pro series etc with 2 rb and a slot back instead of a blocking back whom very seldom touches the ball. I beleive they will get the ball to All the talent to open things up to keep the chains moving.Take some pressure off #24 I think you will see a little more out of the gun, Because they will no longer have a running back QB, I look for Blake to have a very good season and be very effective at the short Quick passing attack.I think they will surprise alot of people, they will have more success than people think, in my opinion. It will be a very challenging year and I am looking foreward to supporting the Panthers whatever happens.
#69
5-5, win the district and lose in the regional finals. Not good and yes I will still be supporting the Panthers. If they are able to develop a short passing game (something they have been VERY lacking in), they could surprise some people. Like me, lol.

Chuck Taylor Wrote:With a limited amount of the Freshmen class not playing this year it is going to be hard on next year's incoming freshmen class to fill some of the voids. Kind of like throwing them into the fire.
Why are you so obsessed with these freshmen not playing? You act like Mean Joe Greene, Barry Sanders, and Randy Moss was in this freshmen class and decided not to play. Ive talked to alot of these kids and most of them are coming back next year. The ones who arent were at least a year or two away from varsity playing time anyway. IMO the freshmen who saw varsity time last year (Ben Staggs, Taylor Ratliff, Ross Mccoy) were the only ones that were going to see varsity time even if all the freshmen came out. Charles Mimms is going to try to come back this year from his back injury from what I understand and I wish him well.

Because missing out on an entire class speaks volumes of what is taking place at Pikeville. Heck it could be the sophomore, junior or senior class. What matters is that the majoirty of one class decided not to play. And might I add it was a team that was very competitive at the middle school level. The players you mentioned are talented. But there are not as many of the Freshmen class coming out next year as you suggest. Missing out on an entire class at Pikeville will cause problems in the future. Try to cover it anyway you want. :lmao:

sheww so do i. That boy can be a key player for Pikeville in the years to come

I agree with you completely Hail Pikeville. I don't think we are missing out on a "entire class" and there might have been one out of the ones that didn't play that would have seen any playing time as a Freshman.

But you do still want them on the team for a lot of reasons, such as seeing playing time in the future.

I think youre embellishing this a bit to prove your point. We had 7 freshmen playing ball last year. So the "Entire class" didnt quit. So that means that only 3 didnt come out that played ball in JR high. Granted all three of those kids were going to be good eventually but not immediately. Ive talked to all 3 of those kids either personally or through their parents and ALL have said they are going to play next year. So I guess theyre lying to me according to you. And besides even in the early nineties when I played and Pikeville was winning region and in the top 2 or 3 teams in the state every year in 1a. We always had 3 or 4 kids who played in JR high but chose not to play varsity. So let me ask this? Wouldnt you agree that we should be celebrating the ones who had the "Testicular Fortitude" to do what it takes to play football at this school. Or should we keep whining about the ones who didnt? If these kids dont have enough guts to come out and put in the work essetial to be a good player and to make his team better you have to ask yourself this? Would you really want the ball in THEIR hands in the 4th quater with the game on the line?

I agree 100% but I just dont think that telling these kids that we arent winning like we used to just because they arent playing isnt the right thing to do because it isnt true.

Jetpilot: I would love to see all the players come out next year, but to say that Pikeville Football is going down the tubes because the few Freshman decided not to play doesn't work for me.

I don't think that is the case either, I just hope that class is the exception rather than the start of a trend.

I heard from Coach J yesterday that 15 8th graders signed up to get into Copelys PE class for weight lifting. I guess rumors of Pikeville Footballs demise have been greatly exagerated. There is as much if not more talent in this 8th grade clas as there was in last years.

Add them to super sophomores to be Taylor Ratliff, Ross McCoy, and Ben Staggs plus if the kids come back that didn't play last year then you have a makings for a really solid group of kids. On top of that you have three kids that are going to be pretty special in the junior class: Blake Branham, Jared Anderson, and JR Robinson. If Houston McAnallen comes back then you have a super talent to add back to the mix. Looks bright for the future in my opinion.

Weight Lifting has started and the kids that are working out with Coach Copley, are ready to take this program to the next level.

Capt. DH: I would like to add one more player to your list of super sophomores.

Charles Mimms

If CM continues to work hard in the off season, he will be a huge asset for this team.

I just hope that his injuries have healed. And yes he is going to be a good one if he can get healthy.

So what is it called when a majority of a class decides not to play

Ok 8 kids played and 4 didnt out of the freshmen class. Is that a majority where you come from???? Might want to crack out the old math book or even a dictionary to learn what the word majority means. LOL!!!!

I can think of eight freshman that came out for football this year.

How many that started on the junior high team didn't come out their freshman year?

So what is a majority of a class???
#89
Out of the eight freshman that came out for football this year. All eight started on the junior high team as eighth graders.

That only leaves three more.

1. Clark Keene
2. Wes Rowe
3. Steven Layne
