2008 Pikeville Panthers
#1
Let's try to keep this one going. Go Panthers!
#2
I hope the best fot the Panthers. They are my favorite team. But they have underachieved in a big way the last 3 years, after winning the region in 2004. They were the most disappointing team in the mountains in 2007. Hopefully they can get things turned around in 2008.

Still harping on the past, I hope you get over your dissapointment. Those Kids worked very hard all year. We are on the 08 season now, hopefully we can get the 08 crowd out to support the team on friday nights, because they were the biggest dissapointment in my book. Those coaches and kids work there but off. Panthers will have a good team in 08, because they have a good work ethic, nothing comes easy, hopefully some of the underclassmen will stepp up in 08 and decide to play, the days of just wearing a jersey are over. These coaches work toward a winning season and exspect that from there kids. no pain no gain. Maybe I'm old school. Looking foreward to seeing them stick Corbin. Go Panthers

I'll get over my disappointment when Pikeville starts winning again. The crowds will be bigger too. Crowds were a bigger disappointment than the results on the field? Good one.

I dont think they will be the Panthers of the past. They are going be rebuilding for a while IMO.

On a related note, the Miami Dolphins' coaching staff has determined that small crowds this year are to blame for their poor record. Big Grin
#8
There is no relation, blame was not mentioned in my note ,support and blame are two different things. I guess it went over your head.

Personal attacks will only get this closed. Maybe that's what you want. Anyone that points out the very disappointing results of the last three years gets ripped. That's the typical response you get from people with bad results - shift the blame and shoot the messenger. You actually missed my point that attendance will be down when results are bad. Happens everywhere, not just Pikeville. But like I said, have bad results and say the crowds are the most disappointing thing...typical.

GO PANTHERS!

Hopefully attendance will be up in 08, and it will be a great season for all.

 Hopefully it will be a great season. Then attendance will most assuredly be up.

You can not compare the results of the last three years with 2004 or any previous results. What happened in the years 2001, 2002, and 2003? Those years were pretty identical to the last three other than the last three years having a more difficult non district schedule.
Getting back to 2008, results are going to depend on (1) THE QB POSITION (2) FINDING TWO DEPENDABLE OL, and (3) REPLACING GRADUATED LINEBACKERS ( my opinion). An informed analysis can not be made until August 2008 rolls around when we know what kind of winter work has been done, how kids have developed, and who is playing.

Everybody have wonderful holiday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

True fans and supporters of a program show whether "their team" is winning or not...ever heard the phrase "fair weathered fans"???

I think Pikeville fans are spoiled and really should get behind the kids and the coaches or get out of the way.

I've always heard if you're not part of the solution, you are part of the problem.

Attendance will be down when results are poor in any sport on any level. Just a fact that I think most people understand. Pikeville fans are behind the program, but will not tolerate poor results for very long - and, are not in any way part of the problem of poor results.

Another new account blaming the fans. What a coincidence.Smile

I sure hope the panthers have a great season. But it will be very hard to replace Tim & Ted Honaker and Chaz Jackson and about 3 great lineman. They lose 14. But also have around 16-18 good freshman players coming in. I wonder if they can step it up to build a great(er) program over their High School years to come. And there is ALOT of kids at Pikeville who are strong, healthy, great kids who could be athletes. But we cant get em' out. Most ive talked to wont play because of harsh long practices, half quit due to that. But it only makes you stronger and better. I guess we'll haved to wait until August 28 for us to take on the Corbin Redhounds in the Pike County Bowl!

good luck to the Panthers in '08 and forever! =]

Jet pilot,
Why is it that anyone that doesn't agree with you is making excuses or some sort of conspiracy???
Relax...Everyone doesn't think like you exactly...That doesn't neccesarily mean anything underhanded.

I disagree and Ill give you three examples. 1) UK hasnt been to a final four in 10 years but a UK game at Rupp is still a tough ticket to get. 2) The Pittsburgh Steelers didnt make the playoffs last year but Heinz field was sold out every week. 3) Ill even give a local example. During the mid to late 90s when Belfry was a little down ( By their standards anyway) Vipperman Stadium was still packed every friday night. So there is 3 examples of fanbase that expects nothing but championships but still they support there teams even when they arent doing well. So I guess what youre trying to say is Pikeville fans are a bunch of "Front runners". My answer to that would be....Not THIS Pikeville fan and Im sure Im not alone. Nobody on here is saying that the fans have lost games for the team. None of the fans are out there blocking or tackling. But contrary to what YOU think a community CAN affect how the football team does just by its attitude. Go ask any successful high school coach and theyll tell you that the four key ingredients to biulding a successful football program in high school is a good Little League, Jr. High, and weight training program. Its common knowledge that we were just flat out inadequate in all 3 of those departments until 2005. The fouth ingredient is where we as fans come in and thats communtiy support. Unfortunately we are still lacking in that deparment. Its a SHAME when you go to a booster club meeting and 6 people show up. I dont care if you like the coach or not there is NO EXCUSE for that.
#18
OK guys I'll cool it...and try to stay positive.

But just to clarify, I don't know the coach and don't have anything against him.

And I will continue to be at all the games rooting for the Panthers.

Amen hail. The only thing that stops our fans from coming is rain. Doesnt stop me though. And ive seen you soaked a few time also. lol

Pikeville has both great successful Little Leage and Junior High programs to build the future of Pikeville Panther football. And after school weight lifting is full every single day

Thought for the day for both fans and players: My family and I had dinner yesterday, with a man who is from the Louisville area, that has been a referee for high school football all across the state for over fifteen years. We were discussing our program and he was quite familiar with the Panther coach, even from before he came to Pikeville. He speaks of him with praise, saying that he is among the top twenty coaches in the state. He doesn't understand what the people around here really want... all this man needs is some time to build a true football team. In my opinion, Pikeville is only hurting their program by switching the coaching staff every three to four years. The team needs consistency in order to grow.

Pikeville fans will not tolerate a couple more seasons of mediocrity.

I disagree with the assessment that he is a top 20 coach. Win a state title and I will definitely change my mind.

You may not want to talk about it but the statement from the majority of the Freshmen class will hurt the program in the next few years. The majority of the Freshmen class decided not to play.
#25
After attending all the games this season, there weren't enough fans in the stands to make or break us. But there will always be those of us that are loyal fans and those that are never satisfied as yourself.
#26
The majorty of the freshman class also hurt themselves. The freshmen who stepped up and accepted the challenge to play, will benifit both on and off the field. Speaking as adult, when life gets tough you can't just quit.

These very same freshmen will be faced with many more hurdles down this road in life. I hope that they will not try to side step all hurdles.

I'm loyal but not satisfied. And there are many more like me. I'm not saying get rid of the staff. Get the staff some help. (B. Howard, J. Howell, to name a couple who would be very good additions.)

I don't think Howard or Howell would come back unless it would be for the head job.

Just my opinion though.

How did they hurt themselves? By refusing to play for a coaching staff they did not like? These Freshmen are playing other sports. Its not like they have given up on sports and are at home playing video games.

Ben Howard would be a great addition. Maybe they could once again have a high powered offense.
