Birth Control
#1
To continue a debate from a previous thread. The Catholic church is against forms of birth control.

I do not agree with it's stance.

A sexually active teen that does not use any birth control has a 90 percent chance of becoming pregnant within a year.

They are also against abortion. So, they are against abortions but also against birth control to prevent people from getting pregnant.

Cause its life!!!

You are saying that abortion is an acceptable form of birth control!!!!!! Thats INSANITY!!

And, birth control in many forms is equal to an abortion... if you believe life begins at conception as many do.

I never said abortion was an acceptable form of birth control. Go back and re-read my post. I was saying that the Catholic church says no to birth control. But then you have people with unplanned pregnancies, and according to the church can't get abortions either.

So why not support birth control if you're going to be against abortions?

LOL

What does birth control do? (Not scientifically). It controls birth!

When you have an unplanned pregnancy... and get abortion... what did you do? You controlled BIRTH.

Rolleyes

The point is, why they oppose both... its because of scripture, tradition, and "facts" about when life begins.

Your'e not catholic, so whats your deal with it. You're free to use contraception. Most Kentuckians are....

And just curious... this is the funny part...

If a girl is faithful enough to follow the dogma... why is she having premarital sex anyways?

Your point is flawed from the very beginning. Further.... most catholics don't follow the birth control rule anyways.

Wall Street Journal-Harris pollsters found in June that 88 percent of Catholics supported more access to birth control information, 81 percent endorsed contraception to prevent abortions, 71 percent said contraception access should not be limited by ability to pay, and 53 percent supported easy emergency contraception availability in all pharmacies.

-------------------------------

So its really not that big of a factor.

Exactly, because it's ridiculous. So why have that rule anymore?

When a rule is no longer followed, there is no point in having the rule.

Its ridiculous because you are not studied on the reasons why, nor are you a Latin Rite Catholic.

Its obvious that you have a problem with the catholic church... Its saddening.

Reported drug and alcohol use by high school seniors, 2006

Used within the last:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Drugs 12 months* 30 days

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Alcohol 66.5 % 45.3 %
Marijuana 31.5 18.3
Other opiates 9.0 3.8
Stimulants 8.1 3.7
Sedatives 6.6 3.0
Tranquilizers 6.6 2.7
Cocaine 5.7 2.5
Hallucinogens 4.9 1.5
Inhalants 4.5 1.5
Steroids 1.8 1.1
Heroin 0.8 0.4

Lets legalize drugs for kids as well as alcohol and cigarettes... they're not following the rule anyways!
#11
You can't relate drugs and alcohol to birth control. That's not on topic and is a completely different animal.

Either way, you just gave me stats showing that only one thing on the list (alcohol) was used by a majority of those surveyed.

And most would agree that the legal drinking age should be lowered to 18.

I agree... lower the age. 18. Fine.

The stats that I gave you earlier didn't show that the majority TAKE birth control.. but you sure loved them. Had the poll asked do you think its ok with the drug/alcohol thing, or have 'ever' tried it... I'm sure you'd see much higher numbers as well. It would be like asking, would you 'endorse' someone drinking, to keep them from doing drugs? I'm sure you'd see equal numbers with the Catholics and endorsing contraception. Catholic dogma says you can't do a wrong, and get a right out of it.

What is your problem with the catholic church??

This on topic thing is getting ridiculous as well. you do this each and everytime that a point is made, using imagery of another.
#13
We're talking about birth control and you give us stats on drug use...that's why it's not on topic.

Most people would see birth control as good thing, not a bad thing.

98 percent of U.S. women use some form of contraceptive during their lifetimes. Why make these people feel bad by saying it goes against the church?

You said when people quit following a rule, then there shouldn't be the rule. I used another idea to prove why this was funny to even think of saying, let alone actually saying it.

Why make people feel bad by saying it goes against the church? Because it does. If 98% of people believed lying to be ok now and then, does that mean that Jesus' word should be ignored from here on out?

Its not logical, and you still won't answer what it is about the catholic church that irks you? Its obvious you have no understanding of them, nor their historical roots.

I would very much like thecavemaster to join in on this, in a historical sense... although I'm sure he disagrees with the idea of organized religion, and the catholic church.. he's quite the historian and can help you out about its 'roots' I'm sure. Peter ;-)

Uh...duh! This stupid stance on birth control irks me. The publicity they get from protesting movies irks me. That should be obvious to you.

As I said in the other thread. I am going out of town for a little while, so don't expect anymore debate from me for a while.

like who? cavemaster and DW?

:thatsfunn

I'll tell ya what. If either of the two want me banned... all they gotta do is say the word. And I'll go willingly. We have fun in here... everyone does, or else the likes of CE wouldn't keep replying to every post I make. Cavemaster and DW are great sports and sometimes (and i stress sometimes CM lol) they get me against the wall... and I have to bow out quietly.

To numerous to mention.

You are the only one having "fun" in here. There are many that have stopped posting because there is no debate going on. It is a my way or the highway situation and they do not feel the need to waste their time.

If you have any issues with what I am saying feel free to PM me.

Already did.

And who isn't posting that was when I started? I've only really talked to 3-4 people. All of which post.. in fact, I'm noticing many new ones lately.

Run a poster off. ha. This isn't war. It IS debate. And about 95% of my posts are based on facts that I believe to be true. You think you know, but ...

I am not well read or understand a freat deal of why the Catholic Church is against birth control and abortion, but I have my own idea. And if anyone could just think about it, it might make sense.....or not! LOL

We all know that the more people in church makes the church richer in $$, volunteers, members and a lot more. So....if your church is against birth control and abortion, then the more family members that can be be Catholic. Anyone follow???
#24
the guru,

it actually goes back to the beginning.. i'm not too for sure the catholic church was too concerned with money at that point.

good thought process though. never thought of it that way.

rammy,

personally, i don't care if they take birth control or not... (as long as its the non aborting form)...

I'm just taking up for an undefended catholic stance, and the incredible misunderstanding and mistating of facts that is going on.

off topic for a sec... but midee1, your next post is number 5000! make it a good one.
