He is a young sophomore and played QB on the Junior Varsity. Supposedly did fairly well and has the best arm on the team. IDK. They are returning all but seven according to him and with the schedule not very rough could be a turning point for Coach Whitaker.

ive not heard anything about this....The branham kid could but very doubtfully start at qb next year.....i see rice still at qb

I don't know if Branham could start at qb. Rice is a very good qb when you give him time. And I think he will do pretty good next year. But if Powell plays hard and works hard, they will do fairly well. Not like 10-1 or 9-2. Maybe 6-4 or 5-5. Or maybe just a little bit better. But lets just wait and see if Powell can have a winning season. Good luck to you guys next year.

I don't know anything about them, just what I was told by a coach.

Dont start the qb crap .. this team will go noweres without seniors rice and crowe leading them .. if u start the qb stuff again then its just going to cauz problems .. wes branham isnt a very good qb either .. slower than rice and not close to the arm .. the rose kid would be the next option if rice wasnt it

Did you see the last game they (Powell) played. Probably don't need to bring up a leader unless someone new is expected to move in. Anybody on the team could have been just as good at quarterback. It doesn't sound like CRAP, sounds like some coach has been talking. Which one was crowe? We obviously know who rice is. Not one person showed any type of leadership. We saw your coach seemingly pulling his hair out and getting in faces trying to get some response. It failed! Confused

Winning 4 would be an accomplishment the way they played against Berea.

Billy Rice will be the QB in 2008. Coach Whitaker has worked too hard with him already to give it up to someone that has no experience. He's smarter than that. If he didn't want Billy at Qb, he wouldn't be there.

I agree! If they develop a better team atmosphere among the players they will be much improved next year.

Not in the game we saw. Both quarterbacks were not very good but one did not make the other look like a rookie that is fact. Unless throwing interceptions makes the other guy look like a rookie.

You are right. All you read on here about you guys is "me" work. One kid is better than the rest and could not win if he did not play, news flash you didn't win much anyway. Until you all get that situation fixed, you will always be subpar at best. Never heard of one person beating eleven, it don't happen down here. Reading this is entertaining and most of you all sound like you don't care what you say about your players, unless they are of some kin then they are praised. Blitz you sound like you are part of the program, you should see this first hand. With inside back stabbing you cannot be successful, it is impossible. If you rid your program of these people you then have a chance. Best of luck.

Impossible to tell who backstabs. Everyone has screen names. The majority of the people in Powell Co. do not even know what this message board is. So therefore, most don't say nothing negative. Tongue

Well said. History shows the people you speak of will get a slice of humble pie, hopefully before it is too late. Most are stars in their own eyes, the great one's are those who know the meaning of team and family.

Humility is a trait that many parents are failing to teach children nowadays. Then there are "superstar" pro and college athletes with huge egos setting examples for them. Alot of kids are now learning very early that if they have even an ounce of talent they will be treated as the hero. Some of them truly believe the team cannot win without them...which is obviously, not true. It's really unfortunate because then they have to learn humility the hard way.

Very true on all stated! When a parent thinks their child is above all some tend to get that eqo trait as well instead of teaching their child valuable lessons. The hard way is truly unfair for the child and a slap in the face of the parent who has not controlled the child in the first place. When Coach Rupp was at UK they were going to play LSU when LSU had Pistol Pete, one of, if not the greatest college basketball players of all time. When Rupp was asked how he was going to beat LSU, he said, "they have only one player, we will keep the rest from scoring because we cannot stop Pete, and our TEAM will beat one player." Pretty powerful stuff, and he was right!

Looks like everything you are saying is pretty accurate. We also have to remember that tearing down that "superstar" is not helping him either. It just makes people lash out that try and protect the player.:thumpsup:

Surely you don't think it is ok for a kid to never face reality. If the kid is that good or mentally tough enough he won't be bothered about the crap around him. More goes into a "superstar" than just a sport, there are things also outside of sports, like school, community, etc. If the parents aren't helping them, who is left. It is not tearing down, it is keeping in check and trying to keep a team together. You seem to know the problem and who is the cause, why turn a blind eye? Address the situation and move on. If you are not on one course TOGETHER, you are on several courses for failure. By the sound of things you all are the latter part! Sad

I don't think there is a problem to turn a blind eye to....unless you count jelousy. I have not had a problem with the "superstar".

First of all, I was not referred to any one "superstar". If you read a bit more carefully, I was referring to superstar pro and college athletes that are "role models" for these kids. I believe you have some issues about your school's "superstar" and are a bit too defensive. Let me be clear...I was not "tearing down" any child. Secondly, I really can't see any jealousy and have no idea to what you are referring? Why would I be jealous???? :dontthink
