Owsley beats Lee 57 to 38.
It was a tough game with two fights and 3 players kicked out of the game. Two from Owsley and one from Lee. The refs and coaches let this game get to far out of hand.

the worse game that i ever had the opportunity to watch in my life. talk about bad sportmanship well i wittinessed it tonight. i watched this game in total disbelif i could not beleave that grown women would stand up in the stands with both middle fingers stuck up in the air. PARENTS WHAT ARE WE TEACHING OUR CHILDREN. it was bad enough that 3 fights broke out on the floor but the parents acted the way the did on both sides i'm ashamed

WAS there another fight after the game? I only saw the one under the goal between #34 and #5, and the #14 from Owsley throw a punch next to the locker room. I agree the way the fans carried on was uncalled for. The coaches and the refs should have taken a time out or stopped the game to calm things down, the emotions on both teams running rampid.

You are right!!! Control of the game is in the hands of the referees, and the three that were in charge tonight, did not handle it very well. There was too much shoving and pushing and should have been calmed down in the beginning. Emotions are bound to get out of hand when Owsley and Lee play because of the history between the two teams and the coaches need to remind the players that what happened tonight with the three girls are not only hurting them, but it will hurt the entire team.
On sportsmanship, the Owsley Crowd cheered when #34 was ejected. Wow, that was something to cheer about. That was terrible!!! I don't know what they felt there was to cheer about. Owsley will now play Monday night against regional rival Hazard without two starters; a very important regional game. Hazard is always a favorite for the All A and Owsley needs this game to boost their confidence, but if it's won, it will be without two starters.
I guess the only good part, this puts Owsley with a 2-0 record in the district and a 4-1 record overall. I still love you Lady Owls, but with a little less temper!!!!

The game got out of hand. From what I could tell, both teams were hackin' and smackin' each other to death, and the ref's were lettin' them by with it. I honest beleive that both teams were fighting for their self, because lords knows that the ref's weren't gonna defend either one.
What was the deal with C. Combs going to the locker room and W. Bowling still out on the floor? For a second there, I thought the ref's were going to let her play, but after 5 minutes they sent her on to the locker room also.
Ya know, someone could've very easy got hurt tonight and that would have been a shame because the players can't control there emotions, and the ref's seem to be out gettin' popcorn. lol jk
To a certin extent, I blame the ref's. The reason I blame it on the ref's is because, they could have prevented all of this tonight. They are the men with the whisle and what they say goes.
Now for the players, yeah they need to play smart and use their heads. When C. Combs and W. Bowling were going out of bounds for the ball, Bowling pushed Combs: this is were using your head and the ref's need to come into play.
*The ref's need to call the foul (maybe an intentional one), but we'll say a foul.
*Combs should have walked away and let it go, but you can't go back and change it.
*Still the ref's didn't call nothin' until the second punch was thrown. That's a joke!
I do beleive it will be a very interesting game in Lee Co. come Jan. 21st. All I've got to say is tell your friends, family and even the law to come and watch this game, because it will be a war and I'm sure that emotions will be flyin' high.

looks to me like, as everyone seems to agree here, that the refs let it get out of control. Owsley obviously had the game won, up by more than 14 points and seemed to then start taking out some old agressions against Lee. However, Owlsly's coach seem to not have control over his team, seems like he could have calmed his team down, taken them out to calm their agressions, just my opinion.

You just got to remember that Owsley and Lee are possible the BIGGEST rivals in the 14th region. Their competiviness doesnt get better, it only gets worse. The players hate each other, tempers fly and people just dont have control over their actions , yea if someone pushed me to the ground for no reason i would take up for my self, and i was watching the game and a certain woman in the stands flipped both of her middle finges at owsley's crowd, thats uncalled for. As for all you people who likes to blame Owsley coach for this, get over it, it wasnt the coachs' fault, they cant control tempers, and i dont care who says that they should take their players out. The Lee and Owlsey rival isnt gonna go away, 15 years from now its still gonna be there. So get over it.

The coaches have no control over a players emotions.
No-1 has control over a players emotions.
It happened all so fast that the coaches wouldn't have had time to take them out.
As i watched the game, i would have had no clue that a fight would have broke out between those two.
how was the coach to know also

Also!!!!
If someone pushed you, wouldnt you have said or done something about it.
I know if it would have been me i'd have prolly done the same thing.
the fact it was to district long term rival only made it that much better.

Excusse me, OWSLEY'S COACH should have taken his players out to calm them down. NO, No, No, You seem to be forgetin' somethin', they were two teams out on the floor. If you were even at the game, and any bit payin' attention to what was happenin' on the floor, you should've seen around three times that Owsley's players started to walk away or did walk away.
1) Candi Combs and Whitney Bowling goin' out of bounds for the ball: After the whistle was blowed, Candi started to seperate from her and Whitney pushed her and then Candi layed it on her.
2) Kendra Combs and Brooke Bowling: Next to the scores table at the end of the game. Kendra almost punched her in the face and she stopped in the nick of time and slowley put her fist down. From my point of view, Brooke pulled her Jersey out and kept pushin' her, but Kendra walked away.
3) Corina Thacker, with a second to go, was tied up with the ball: Brooke Bowling shoved Corina and called her a name (which I can not type) while Corina was walking away. The next thing I know Corina hit her in the face.
Has anyone seen a trend of how these fights started out?
Owsley has been the bigger person by startin' to walk away (Candi and Corina) or by stoppin' in the nick of time (Kendra).
If you want my Opinion, Lee County's coach should have set his players out to control them. Whitney Bowling was in the first scramble she got sent to the locker room. Brooke was mentioned in the last two and nothin' was done to her. I beleive that she should've went and kept her big sis company in the locker room.

sad that the refs didnt take control of the game. The players are the ones that suffer for their inability to get things under control.

Its not just all lee i would say Candi, corina, kendra all keep it going till lee got tired of it!! Because there is stuff said on the floor all the time said that know one sees!! If lee got that mad how bad do u think powell will get cause i seen powell play prestonsburg and i watched them at the Estill Panaroma and powell... Im both games Stevie Rogers lost her cool and Shelby Barnett was not far behind her.....I doubt by what i seen powell will let owsley mouth to them and it will end up the same way this game did.. maybe evan worse!:ChairHit:

IMO, some players should grow up and stop the fighting. I mean, players should just PLAY THE GAME...and dont bring anything else into it, it looks bad on your team and school. What ever happened to good sportsmanship? Play ball and have a good time!!

I agree 110%, well put pickin'_n_grinnin'.
I was at this game also and saw the exact same thing. #34 began to walk away when I think #5? Whitney Bowling, just takes off and shoves #34 in the back. That was extremely uncalled for, and random at that. Right when this happened a ref. should've been there to break it up before #34 could've even had a chance to react, but nothing was done until 2 or 3 punches were thrown. & not only that, but if what I saw was correct, the center for Lee Co. {Hobbs} acted like she wanted in it, too.
It seemed to me like both teams tempers were on an end and everything went downhill from there. All 3 fights that I saw {Or, "almost" fights (Corina & Kendra)} began with a Lee. Co. player pushing, shoving, or saying something to an Owsley player. I was shocked that the refs. didn't try to end any of them sooner. I'm not blaming EVERYTHING on Lee, but I do say that they should've kept their tempers a little more under control, and then Owsley wouldn't of had a reason for retalliation, IMO.

Sounds to me like the game tape should be requested by the KHSAA and the head official in the 14th Region. Before every game, the announcer reads that "blip" from the KHSAA about sportsmanship from players and fans. Sounds like that "blip" was disregarded by lots of folks wearing both teams colors....
12-10-2007, 10:22 PM
The game between the lady owls and the lady pirates will be a rough and physical game- thats simply the styles both teams like to play in. All i got to say is play some basketball and when it comes down to people wanting to fight, all powell counties Shelby Barnett and Stevie Rogers are going to have to do is point to the scoreboard! So dont worry about them keeping their cool, they have themselves under control and are ready to play some basketball!
12-10-2007, 10:26 PM
I know this is not a thread about Powell but......in all Powell's games this year Shelby Barnett and Stevie Rogers have not lost their cool. They both have matured and play smart and are thinking only of winning and not fighting. I resent their names being brought up and trouble trying to be started. Powell just wants to play ball as I am sure Owsley does as well. Lets have a good, fair ballgame Friday and may the best team win.
12-10-2007, 11:03 PM
Good grief kids, stop all this childish talk about fighting and physical play...and simply play ball.
This thread has had so many immature posts it's silly. I find this more prevalent in girls basketball than in boys, and much of it starts off the court and involves other things besides basketball, such as boyfriend/girlfriend, past and present, issues.
. Play ball, and grow up!!!
