Which game was the most shocking game out of the 1-6A state championships? And why?
12-09-2007, 01:31 AM
I didn't see Belfry losin, I thought they would dominate Central. And I clicked the wrong game on the poll, lol, meant to click the Belfry game. Although I am shocked that Ft.Campbell beat New Cath, but not as shocked as the Belfry game. I'm also shocked that Beechwood barely squeaked by Lex Christian.

I corrected it for you.
I too think it was the Belfry/Central game. I really thought the "Big Red Machine" would roll right on past the Yellow Jackets.
I really enjoyed listening to the St. X/Trinity game more than the others.

Without a doubt Fort Campbells win over NCC.
12-09-2007, 02:34 AM
IMO, Trintiy vs St. X.

I thought it was Beechwood's squeaking past LCA. If I thought anygame would have been a blow out next to LexCath I would have thought Beechwood this season.

I was shocked at the way the Belfry - Central game panned out. They had a decent team though, don't get me wrong, but they were given the game.

Well, I didnt see Lex Cath beating Lone Oak 49-7 and I really didnt see Ft Campbell beating NCC but my vote would be the Belfry game. I really thought Belfry's O line would push Central around and they would run all over them and went another State title.

I have to say Belfry Central game just didn't see Belfry lose this one but they did.
But there was a lot of games that should have went the otgher way around !!! but getting Greedy only gets you beat. IMO ST.X, LCA,.
If they would have kicked the field goals then they would have won, but they Coaches got greedy and it came back to bite them in the ***
And I think Belfry got a little Greedy as well when there was only 11 seconds on the clock and you are up by 3 points why not take a knee and go in a the half up 3? I think thats what beat Belfry!! But thats my opion.
ANd I like belfry really well.

IMO...had nothing to do with greed...had to do with getting the job done and we didnt! Jackets did their homework! Although while my son and daughter have been in sports, I have never let them say anything about officials. I think that if there are bad calls, they are usually called on both sides so it pans out. I hate to hear whining and passing the buck on officiating. I would never let my children bad mouth a call, but.....I have many questions about this game! I have to commend Central though and Congratulate them on their win! I take nothing away from them! They played hard and capitalized on the turn overs! Something that we couldn't do! Congrats to my Pirates on a great season!

It was THE RIGHT CALL at the right time with the worst possible outcome.
Central was the better team, and I can live with that, but don't blame the guy whose praises have been up there with the Almighty for 4 years.
**** happens, we play good footballl, Central played better on that day...Congrats again Central! This Belfry team gave it all they had, but you guys came out on top. I can sleep at night, but some of these mothers & brothers aren't who9 never played football aren't giving you you're due & proper.

I dont think Ive seen anyone except a few kids.....NOT congratulate central for a game well played. I dont recall anyone except a kid say the refs won the game. Just because a kid or two feel that way dont make it sound like all of Belfry thinks the refs gave the game away because thats not true. Ive heard many people (men included talk about it....and on several sites). In fact Ive talked about the calls in games we've won but thats not an issue because it wouldnt be "whinning" or "blaming" talking about the refs when we win would just be "discussing" and IMHO thats what most are doing now. BUT because we lost some want to to think we're whinning or blaming. I think people need to read all post and read them word for word before throwing off on someones post. People also need to realize that this is a place for discussion and opinions. There are hundreds of people on the site. NOT one of us are 100% right on everything we say while everyone else is just stupid or wrong.

I can't think of any excuses for my team. We just got beat by a better team. I do think the six class system sucks. If it aint broken don't fix it. There was still some great football being played and as always it was fun to watch. I hope to see all you great folks duking it out on the basketball board the next few months. It has been a pleasure learning more about your teams and sharing things about mine.

It looks like whining and nothing else to me. I've never been to a high school game that the refs didn't miss at least 2 calls. But nobody mentions that stuff when you are winning.
Central beat us and they sure didn't play great. All that stuff about us hitting them in the mouth and causing them to lay down was for nothing because they flat hit us in the mouth.
Just think about how bad the score would have been if they didn't have 5 turnovers.

I'm a Belfry fan, and I have seen several people on this board post that the game was won by the refs. I for one don't believe that the refs are why we lost. Sure there was some bad calls, but it wouldn't have changed the outcome of this game. Instead of whinning about the calls, why don't everyone look at what we did wrong. You can't turn the ball over and not stop the other team from capitalizing. Both teams turned the ball over alot. The difference? They capitalized on our turnovers, we didn't.

To me i thought belry would win but congrats central....

Me my slef think it was a bad call you take a knee and go in at half time with the lead.

During my "so-called" whining, I SAID THAT! We didnt capitalize on the turnovers and they DID! Leave me alone and let me sulk.......lol

You NEVER pass up opportunities to score in a state title game.
We hadn't proven to be able to stop Central's offense yet, their turnovers were pretty much self-inflicted, as were ours, but Central also got the ball at the beginning of the 2nd half.
99 times out of 100 if that ball gets picked off its in the offensive team's endzone, and there is no return. It just so happened that the ball slipped out of Andrew's hands, and was caught by the fastest guy on the field.
BTW...Pirates-r-Us, I wasn't talking about you whining, but there has been a ton of posters here blame the loss on nothing but the refs. That's absolutely wrong and it doesn't set the right example for our kids who've been learning life lessons the last 4 years from a staff who wouldn't stand for blaming officials for the outcome of a game.
Unless it was played at Breathitt Co. in '99 or 2000.

Belfry getting beat by Central was by for the most shocking game because Central was an 8-5 team that got beat by JC and Belfry put them away easily. I don't like playing that card but it just the facts. Belfry should have had this game handed to them, but with the injury to Dustin May they just could not get rolling on offense, but I expect them back next year for some retribtution.

I don't think anyone reads the entire post! Just the parts they want and take it how they want. I HAVE talked about refs when winning and I NEVER said the refs cost this game.

And i have to agree on the ref part of the game they didn't cost anyone this game!!!

Belfry and Central didn't surprise me. I had seen Central and knew they were big and fast. I hadn't seen Belfry but judging by their schedule I really didn't think they understood the type of team Central was.
The Beechwood game didn't surprise me at the time, but then when I watched the replay today I was surprised how close it really was. Actually I don't think Beechwood won the game, I think LC lost it by not going for the field goal to tie it.

Thank you for clarifing that because if people would read and not jump to conclusions...yes some are blaming/whinning but some are just discussing and if we had won, then there wouldn't be a problem with people talking about it lol
Your right about setting examples. And these kids needs good coaches and parents to set those examples for them.
For the record...we should have won that game!! But like you said earlier ---- happens
