2008 Pikeville Panthers
#1
Pikeville had a decent season but it seemed this year that almost everytime they were faced with competition or adversity they layed down. With saying this they are also losing 20+ seniors, the only plus i see them returning is Daniel Harmon. So how do you think they will be next year?

Harmon will be a beast next year. He is focusing totally on football and will be in the weightroom all winter to really bulk up. The only question will be if Pikeville will have enough solid lineman that can make it a little easier for Daniel.

yea that seemed to be the problem this year too from what i understood, they lost 2 studs from the line last year if im correct that hurt them this year...

I think next year will be tough for Pikeville....i see them making it to the second round of the playoffs at best. Sry guys...give it a season or two youll be good again.

As long as Pikeville is in the horrible district they are in now, they will make it to at least the 3rd round. But getting to the third round and losing will never be good enough for Pikeville fans.

Pikeville will be losing 14 seniors, One of them didn't play in a game this year due to a knee injury.

NOTE: Pikeville does not lose 20+ seniors...they lose 14.

Harmon needs to transfer.

pikeville may have one of the worst teams in a long time next year..there losing a lot, i will really respect them if they are on top again next year

Correct me if I am wrong but isn't that half their team. Pikeville Football is done. It will never get to where it once was. Just think if they didn't have the transfers they had. Take away three players in Harmon and the twins. They would haven't have won the district. They should be thankful that they are in a weak district in single A.
#12
Pikeville will also return Tyler Baker at WR and Trey Branham who was a beast on the line for them this year...They also have Taylor Ratliff and Ross McCoy coming back (two freshman who really stepped up and made some plays for them)
Now im not saying that they will be fine, but you all arent giving them any credit. They may be down a little, but dont think that they are just gonna be a push-over.

Agreed...

An I think he will after the "surprise" he gets from the district player of the year award.

You can roll your eyes all you want. But face the facts....Harmon is a great player who is stuck on a below average team for the 2008 campaign. He'll be a broken down Rb if he stays at Pikeville for his seior year.

Harmon would do much better at another school.

If he stays at Pikeville for his senior year, he will be at the best academic school in the mountains by far. That does mean something to people who actually are in school to get the best education they can, which is why they are in school in the first place. Smile

Harmon is a 4.0 student who takes just as much in his schoolwork as he does in his athletics. Therefore Pikeville is actually the best fit for him.

Let's not forget about three sophomores that got some quality starts and playing time this year. Blake Branham started 2-3 games and got better each week, he has the genes to be something special if he will work real hard at it. Jared Anderson started 2-3 games and got a lot better and will be a monster in this area, he has put on 85 lbs. in the past two years. JR Robinson started some games at both guard and middle linebacker, if this kid puts on some weight he will be a tough linebacker/guard combo. With a year of good experience under there belt these three will help a lot in 2008. They also return their entire secondary.

Nice try. Harmon is not coming to SV.

I meant to put pride in there after the word much.

Its in all their genes to be good. All 3 had brothers that were starters at Pikeville over the years.Wink All 3 of these kids have improved leaps and bounds from where they were a year ago and all 3 woked extermely hard to get better. Every body can run their mouth all they want to but with these three plus Ross Mccoy ,Taylor Ratliff and Ben Staggs, a couple more wide bodied lineman in Ethan Murray and Dusty Khoshreza. Not to mention the Seniors that IMO will provide the on field leadership this team has lacked since John Michael Mayo went down in '06 and Pikeville Football is in pretty good hands next year. Also Ive been hearing some of the ones who quit this year will be playing again next year and that will only help. I also forgot to mention the 8th grade class coming up which is pretty talented. If this team works hard in the off season they will be just as good as last years team and maybe even better because they will play better as a team now that all the egos are gone.

The way this is worded kind of confuses me. Are you trying to say that he will win the award for the second straight year. Or are you trying to say that it is no surprise that he will win this award.

I'm not suggesting Harmon transfer to Shelby Valley. :o

The word on the street is his own coach screwed him out of the award and gave it to #2.

You are exactly right. I expect all of those young men to step up and play big for the Panthers next season.
With Jared having his big bro as a coach he will be pushed harder than anyone and i think he will respond very well and be a big time player for the Panthers.
Also, someone mentioned Ben Staggs. With his size and former player, Jordan Johnson, on his back all season long to get better, Ben will be very good. He works as hard as anyone in the weight room and it shows with his added size.
I agree that the Panthers will be fine next year and the team will be in good hands with the seniors they will have

Pikeville will win the district with ease once again next year and struggle against everyone out of there district as usual. Going to be a very young team, but going to be just fine in years to come as always!

thats true, but if he ever wants to get any looks from colleges his senior year he better consider moving because pikeville going to be awful.

I think if Harmon would play a sport in college it would be baseball, not football. But with that being said he is a straight A student who excells in academics as well and his cousin and good friend J.P. Newsome is the whole reson Harmon is there and I don't think J.p. is going anywhere, so Harmon will stay.
