PINELLAS PARK, Fla. - The fate of Terri Schiavo once again was in the hands of a judge Monday, following an extraordinary political fight over the brain-damaged woman that consumed both chambers of Congress and prompted the president to rush back to the White House from his Texas ranch.
Taking the Senateâs lead, the House early Monday passed a bill to let the womanâs parents ask a federal judge to prolong Schiavoâs life by reinserting her feeding tube. President Bush signed the measure less than an hour later, at 1:11 a.m. ET. A White House source said he was woken from his sleep for the signing.
The White House said the law was narrowly tailored and not intended as a precedent for Congress to step into battles over the fate of seriously disabled or terminally ill patients.
But in a written statement, Bush promised to âstand on the side of those defending life for all Americans, including those with disabilities.â
âIn cases like this one, where there are serious questions and substantial doubts, our society, our laws and our courts should have a presumption in favor of life,â he said

That is just Assinine. why would you want to prolong someone's "Life" by making them "Live" like that?

Because she's a human. And if they let her die, they are going to starve her to death. She's not a mass or child murderer, she has the right to live.

Like 4-leaf said..she is human!!! None should have the right to say, "oh she should die"...That's basically murder to me.
If this is your family, I'm sure you'd fight to keep them alive.

This woman told several people she did not want to live like this. She said she would rather die than be a vegetable before all this happened. These are her wishes. You say it's protecting a person's right to live, but what about their right to die also?
03-24-2005, 05:47 PM
but the thing is she isnt a vegetable. she responds to people.

It was her wish to not be like that though.

im not saying "Let Her Die". im saying Honor her wishes and let her go peacefully. Yes, she responds to people, but there is no chance of her coming out of the "Condition" she is in.

Some people say it is un-natural to let her die, but in my opinion it is un-natural and wrong to keep someone alive by means of a feeding tube...I mean it's not like that is a natural way to live and I don't think we are meant to live that way....I think she was meant to die when she had heart failure in 1990...By removing the tube she is dying of "natural causes" which is probably what God intends for her, not to be kept alive like she is....
I think there is a big difference is "living"(Just being alive) and "living"(actually living a normal life) in this case, and in this case she is just being alive, and not even able to do anything ever again...Why let her lie there and suffer the rest of her life, and let her husband suffer who has to sit and watch her everyday knowing that she will never respond to him again....
She is human but keeping her alive like this is very un-natural in my opinion, because without this "feeding tube" she would have never lived in the first place....

If this was anybody in my family, I would honor their wish and let them die....There is no way I would fight to keep anybody alive that is in that condition to lie there and struggle to live the rest of their life...

I dont want any of you to come near me in the hospital.
I am not sure how I would treat this, I myself would have to live as her to let you or for that matter myself feel.

I wish instead of letting her starve to death even though she can't feel pain they would just kill her quickly.

Everyone keeps saying honor her wishes, but when she said that she wouldn't want to live like that, it was just the off the wall comment she made while watching a movie. It's not like she was having a conversation with her husband about it, and told him that she wants to die if she ever becomes a vegetable. He even said he didn't know if she was serious or not.

Do you all know all those videos of her are from over 4 years ago? She is in an even worse state now!
03-27-2005, 10:44 PM
I'm sorry, but that is not living and I for one would not like to see a relative of mine "living" like that. As far as "off the wall comments" go, when people say they don't want to live like that, I believe 95% of the people are being truthful. You also hear people say that they would want to be kept alive in that situation.

well, I think that the woman is brain dead, she does not respond to people, when she hears a voice she just smiles, as a reaction. Kind of like when someone is in a coma, and they twitch and they open their eyes. She has been in a "coma" for 14 years, I think its time to give it up. Her father needs to realize that she will not come out of this state. I heard him on CNN saying that if she recieved therapy, she could better. But why didn't he start therapy with her 14 years ago? Makes abosolutey no sense. And she really isnt feeling any pain when they took the feeding tube out, the body will naturally deteriorate, and send a feeling of ephouria (sp), basically a natural pain pill.
