This will be a good year to find out. Pikeville might meet JBS in the WYMT tourney. Pikeville might meet Betsy Layne in the PIT, if not, they will at the end of the season. Pikeville will play Shelby Valley at least twice this year. It looks like Coach Williams got his big man going against all the other big men in the mountians.

I hope Pikeville and JBS meet in the Wymt because it would be a fun game to watch among two good teams. One advantage for JBS is they start 6'10 Collins and also Short at 6'7" . Collins is a great shot blocker and Short is by far the best leaper on the team. I did watch Pikeville play a few times last year and thought that Adams had improved a bunch.

short is not 6'7 he is stretched to be 6'5

Where in the world did these big men from JBS come from?

Justin Poloni has the best range out of the big men. He can shoot the 3 ball.

He measured 6'6" last year and has grown some since.

They have been there all thru grade school. They also have some tall younger kids like Brent Hall at 6'3, Shane Slone at 6'4 and Nason Roberts at 6'3". These younger kids will probably grow some more.

Short is not 6'7. I know him he might be 6'5.

OK? Hall is from Beaver Elem. (Knott Co. School), Slone is from Carr Creek (Knott Co. School) and Roberts is from Hindman Elem. (Knott Co. School).

ComeFlyWithMe Wrote:I have to say Garrison Collins from JBS and Ashley Hatfield from Valley. Garrison is a true big man, and Ashley just has more athleticism than any man his size that I've ever seen play ball in this area, and the scary thing is he will play for 3 more years before he goes to college. I would say Adams is on the list, but he hasn't proven a single thing yet, he hasn't been a threat in the paint since playing for Pikeville and he's listed at 6'10, a big man in EKY that tall should dominate everyone, he hasn't, and Ashley has never been intimidated to bang around down low with him. So my list is Garrison and Hatfield.Agree!

Deven hasnt played against Newman yet. They will be facing each other this season. If not in the PIT, then they will for Pikevilles last regular season game.
Every time Deven has went up against Garrison, Deven has came out on top. I like Garrison. I think he is a very nice young man. But it doesnt seem to me that his heart is in the game to much. He is at least 6'9" and has been for a couple years now and I have yet to see him get above the rim. It could be that he knows where he is now he will only be a support player for Clark and Clint or something.

As far as the 15th Region, I gotta go with Dustin May.

I would think that if that was true then the Sporting News would not have named him honorable mention All American...

Garrison improved an unbelievable amount this summer and you are right that if they threw the ball inside more people would see how good he really is. He absolutely dominated at the Blue Chip camp this summer and dunked the ball over people a number of times. He will without a doubt be the top rated big man in the state when he is a senior next year.

I have seen both these young men play. I would have to rate Dustin Day of Pineville # 1 and Garrison Collins of June Buchanan # 2.
I haven't seen the other players named in this thread. I have heard some good things, however, about St. John's from South Laurel.

Does anyone think the Adams kid from Pikeville could match up with Dustin May if they had to go man(being behind of course)?

He had something like 7 or 8 blocked shots at the start of the second half alone. He completely took Belfry out of their inside game. His footwork, quickness, and jumping is better this year after all the workouts with Housekeeper. And add on to that he has gained 25 pounds from last season.

Skill wise, I think Dustin Day is quite a bit better than the rest of the group mentioned. IMO Collins is ahead of Adams just based on his ability to make catches and his footwork. Adams struggles with making catches in the post, and then is very methodical with his footwork in trying to make a move. Until he makes improvements in those areas his will not be a significant offensive threat. Defensively Adams is the best of the three. I've not seen that much of St. John to make a fair assessment of his game.

Collins has not recieved a pass in two years. His foot work is due to trying to gain an advantage on rebounding to get his put back points.
