Rumors are floating around, mainly by ESPN, that the Bengals orginization is looking to trade Ocho Cinco during the offseason. What's everyones thoughts on this? Personally I think it would be rediculous, and would make me think that the staff wants the Bengals to suck year after year.

i can't believe the bengals or Marvin Lewis would do that.

He is the face of this team. If he wants to trade anyone I'd trade Rudi Johnson or someone like that.
10-24-2007, 03:02 PM
I don't know why everyone is dogging Chad and mainly ESPN running articles saying he is the downfall of that team. Last I looked, the defense couldn't stop anyone. I would worry more about shaping up that defense instead of sending off one of the games most explosive WR's.

If anyone goes in Cincinnati I think it should be Marvin Lewis!!!
10-24-2007, 04:56 PM
Well im not a fan of Chad Johnson's mainly because of the stupid celebrations and the things he says. If he would be more like Marvin Harrison who after he scores just gives the ball back to the refs, maybe I would like him more. I think he is a disruption in that aspect, but to say he is the downfall of the Bengals is beyond hilarious. As someone said earlier, the defense sucks and I really dont think Palmer is as good as advertised. But all this is just my opinion.
10-24-2007, 05:18 PM
By no means is it Johnson's fault!! The bengals have problems mainly because of D. Not because of Chad Johnson. Yes he may take the attention but he is not leading to Palmer's sub-par season, he is not the reason the defense sucks, he is not the reason nothing has been done about the defense in the drafts. I can not see any other reason for people to call out Johnson except for the times on the field when he runs a wrong route or drops a catch.
10-24-2007, 06:46 PM
he is a great reciever, and even though he celebrates and is very flamboyant, opposing teams say that he is a riot to play against. They say he has a great sense of humor and has good sportsmenship on the field.
Don't have a link to clarify this, but I did hear someone ask him if that were true or the hot seat or something.

I don't think it is a good idea, it's very hard to find a WR with his type of talent. IMO Carson Palmer needs to be traded he hasn't played well every since her hurt his knee in the Steelers game last year. Terrible move.

well if they do hopefully my team gets him even though it would be stupid to trade him

He might be a distraction off the field with all that he says and his antics, but that doesn't take away from what he does on the field. Cincy would be absolutely crazy to trade him, about like the Texans passing on Reggie Bush in the NFL draft.
10-24-2007, 11:57 PM
Johnson also sells half the seats in Cincy, like someone said he's the face of their franchise and also their best player. He does attract a lot of attention, but plays hard every play and hates to lose. It would be one of the stupidest moves in NFL history if they did.

You're all nuts. Chad doesn't wanna be traded, he's just made a few comments lately that made it seem like he did because he's frustrated. To say Palmer's not a great QB is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard ot seen.

I would use a better example than the Texans passing on Reggie Bush. Bush is a bust so far in his career.

To say Palmer's not a great QB is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard ot seen. It's not Chad's decision. According to the link, ESPN got their information from a member of the Bengals orginization. That person said they were going to trade Chad. Not that Chad wanted to be traded. As a matter of fact, I read an article on bengals.com that asked him about it and he said he didn't want to be traded. He was happy in Cincinnati, but said there was nothing he could do about it if he did get traded.

Then you also saw that Lewis said he wasn't going to be traded, and no one in the front office would want him traded because he brings in lots of money and is one of the top receivers in the NFL, so unless it was a mailboy who knows nothing about it, it was almost definitely false.

Quote:[Image: http://assets.bengals.com/assets/default/bullet.gif] ESPN's Chris Mortensen doesn't think his report citing a prominent Bengals source on Sunday regarding Chad Johnson was misquoted, but he does think it was misinterpreted. "There were two parts to it," Mortensen said Wednesday. "The first part dealt with the source saying that because of Chad's passion and pride, they have to figure out a way to deal with him. The second part was my analysis that the discussions could bring them to a crossroads and that could involve a trade. At no time did a Bengals source tell me they could possibly trade him."
What did I say from day one that someone brought this up? Anyone remember?

I agree with most everyone else on here, it would be a colossal mistake to trade Chad Johnson, unless some team offered them a perennial Pro Bowl-caliber defender in return. Trading him just to get rid of him would be absolutely stupid. Although he has a had a slow start to the season (by his standards), he is still one of the 5 best receivers in the NFL. He makes catches most other guys can't make, and he is the reason Houshmandzadeh is able to get as many receptions as he does. Trade Johnson away and watch the double-teams gravitate toward T.J. instead.
This team has much worse problems than their star receiver dancing after touchdowns. If they want to look for a scapegoat, look no further than the penny-pinching front office, which employs one of the smallest scouting departments in the league. If the Brown family would pony up a few more dollars for scouts, maybe they wouldn't be making so many draft-day decisions that blow up in their face.
And to the person who suggested trading Palmer, that move would probably be the only thing this team could do even dumber than trading Chad.

To mention trading Palmer is so crazy....its not even worth a reply.
As far as what ESPN reported......well it seems to me that a few years ago they reported that Warren Sapp had agreed to a contract with the Bengals and would be signed before the next morning. He signed a contract alright....with the Oakland Raiders. Now I can give you a real good reason why Chad won't be traded......MONEY!
The cap hit the Bengals would have to take the next 2 seasons would be severe. It would be 2010 (one year before the option on Chads contract would come about) before the Bengals could afford the cap hit from trading Chad. Not happening.

ESPN does a better job at creating news than it does reporting news. There's a big difference there. Seems like these people should get better sources.

I agree. I would trade the entire defense, that is of course if they actually had one.

Chad Johnson, WR, Cincinnati Bengals
[Image: http://us.i1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/sp/t...337840.jpg]
Johnson is still a major weapon for the Bengals, but if head coach Marvin Lewis is back next season, Johnson could be shipped out. Lewis has clearly taken some pokes at Johnson in recent weeks, including some comments about NFL players (like Johnson) not having the coolest demeanors due to their junior college backgrounds. And while Lewis has refuted any notion that Johnson is headed for the trade block, there are clearly some significant issues that have to be worked out for a return in 2008.

I really hope they don't trade him. I couldn't care less if he dances or not, as long as he makes plays and helps the team win. And the team would definitely be worse off without him.

The thing is, Chad doesnt care about winning, all he cares about is looking good. Thats what I see when I watch parts of a game. If he cared more about winning than looking good he wouldnt be doing or saying the things he does. Im not saying this is the reason the bengals suck, its not, that moniker goes to the defense. He should be more concerned with winning than coming up with a stupid dance every time he scores. If I owned a team I wouldnt trade anyone off that team for him, no one.

I say you get rid of that joke Lewis before you get rid of anyone on the offensive side of the ball.

You're completely insane..... Alls he cares about is winning and making the Bengals a winner. When he blows up, it's usually because he thinks he could be getting the ball or something that would help the team win. He doesn't blow up to make himself look good.

Lewis has turned the program around and brought respect to it. To say Lewis is a joke is insane, and it's the front office that is probably the reason for the defense's downfall (well, them and Bresnahan, but he has called two games decent). The fron toffice resuses to take steps big enough to improve the defense (i.e. not spending money on free agents or spending a significant number of draft picks to draft good defensive players)

Exactly right. The front office is to blame for the lack of upgrades on defense and for not holding certain coaches accountable for their units consistent poor play. It will be a great day when soP (son of Paul) is no longer calling the shots. It all starts at the top gang.
