Is it me or are they just plain out unorganized?
No one knows how the football playoffs are setup.
Pikeville has way more say then they should - they play in the Pike Co leagues yet we have to argue over holding it at Pikeville - why?
Pikeville should have 0 votes IMHO and if they do not like how the COUNTY schools set something up then play somewhere else.
The basketball stuff is a joke - no 6th grade league, a ridiculously low limit on games - 16 - but no one follows it and if it was followed Virgie, Dorton, Pikeville, and Belfry would be punished because they DESTROY the other teams because they are the only ones that have coaches(1 I do not care for but oh well) that are there year after year.
The BOE makes ridiculous rules about not holding kids back - while every county in the 15th region allows it and IMHO is why after this SV group no other team from Pike County will win a region title for awhile.
The basketball county title should be held at Pikeville College every year and official gotten from another area and they should not have a child that goes to school at Belfry or Pikeville for example.

Lol....
I DO agree that if Pikeville (being an independent school) is going to play within the county then they should follow the same guidelines that county schools do. EXAMPLE: Their 8th graders playing UP on the freshman team and then being allowed to come back down to play Jr. High ball. County schools DO NOT allow this!!! I personally think that what is good for one is good for all! Sorry.... don't mean to offend anyone but this is just my opinion!!

i havent ever heard of a rule like and if it was one that Coach J. new about he wouldnt do it. Those schools that u talked about in basketball the schools should be in charge of getting coaches and if they cant find one they should find a teacher or something theres no use in blamming every single thing on Pikeville just because they might be more organized!!!!

Only thing I am laying at Pikevilles feet is ever single year PIKEVILLE argues about where to hold the boys and girls basketball champ. and football champ.
They should shut up and play where the county schools vote to play it, and as bad as EVERY county school hates Belfry, Pikeville still has the advantage........

My guess as to why would be because of it's more central location than other places. That is a pretty good reason if you ask me.

And how fair would it be to not give one of the teams in the conference any say in anything? That statement alone shows why someone like you is not in charge and only has an opinion through a computer where you can hide behind.

it would be unbelievable to have the county tournament at the expo. who organizes that?

That is not the only thing unorganized in Pike Co. Hell Just look who we have navigating the boat!! Couple that with the Director of Personal and we have a regular three ring circus!!!

I am having a hard time understanding why this isn't fair. If anything it is a disadvantage to Pikeville because the 8th graders have not got to play with the team all year like most kids. All 8th graders in the state of Kentucky (even in Pike County, Letcher, etc) can play Freshman football, but not JV football because then there is a chance they could play against Juniors, which is illegal. The only exception is if they were held back that year. Then they can only play against Junior High competition. So don't say Pike County does not allow this. Your coaches do not allow this.

I'm not gonna sit and dispute your word. Call the Pike County BOE and see what they say and then call around to the schools... see what they tell ya!!

In Floyd Co. you are only allowed to play 4 years High School. If you play up in 8th grade you loose one year while in High School.
If this is not a rule now it has changed in the last 6 months.

THANK YOU!!!!
My point being.....
Freshmen DO dress with the varsity and DO sometimes get in to play in varsity games.... THIS being the entire point I was trying to make... and NOPE.... the rule hasn't changed within the last six months!! The same applies to an 8th grader playing UP with the FRESHMAN team which BTW is a HIGH SCHOOL team therefore..... Are they losing a year of playing time for when they are TRUE high schoolers???? Just curious???

That is a rule but some mis-read it.
You have 4 years of eligibility in high school starting your 9th grade year. Nothing to do with middle school. You just cannot play 2 years in the same grade, like 2 years of a high school sport in the 8th grade if you were held back BUT you can be held back, but it must be before you walk through 8th grade graduation.
Last year BMS 8th graders played Freshman basketball, there was no controversy or rule breaking, just decided it was better for BMS and BHS.
There is no Pike BOE rule against anyone playing up in any sport, just a State BOE rule that says 8th graders cannot play JV or Varsity football due to the size/injury factor.
Pikeville played 8th graders due to not having a large number of 9th graders, something any county school could do but WHY?
Belfry, SV, PC, and ER are big enough they do not have to, Phelps would be one that could do this.
Belfry gets 20-30 freshman to play football every year so there is no need for 8th graders to play up.
I hope that answers all question.
10-23-2007, 06:07 AM
JV football is not considered Varsity football experience. Therefore it does not count against the eligibility of an 8th grader that may play up on a freshmen team.

Now if one of the schools we play decides to play a sophomore or junior in these freshmen games then THEY are the ones in trouble and not us. IF youre upset cause youre school isnt taking adavantage of this perfectly legal rule then I suggest you take it up with them. Some of you county folk really crack me up cause if you didnt have Pikeville to blame for something youd be pretty miserable.

To get back on the topic of this thread. ALL middle school sports are unorganized because there is no centralized governing body controlling them. The KHSAA wont touch middle school sports cause there isnt enough money involved. IMO the Pike County Conference is more organized than the Big Sandy Conference is cause at least Pikeville hasnt showed up to a game and found another team playing the team they were supposed to be playing. That actually happened in the BSC.

I could PERSONALLY CARE LESS what Pikeville does with their athletic program. MY child is my concern and that is it!! Play the freshman down, the 8th graders up... do whatever.... I DO NOT CARE!!!!!!!!!!

Obviously you do care what Pikeville does because you have talked about this in numerous threads. The bottom line is this: 8th graders CAN play freshman football. They can also play JV, as long as juniors don't play. Don't get mad, I was just showing you the rule, just in case you guys wanted to do it.

I'm not mad... By NO means!! BUT... the last time I checked... 10th Grade constitutes a sophomore... NOT a junior! and the way it reads to me is that not only the team they play for ...... the team they are playing against should not have sophomores or they are not allowed to play... Am I reading this wrong?? Believe me, I have NO problem accepting that I am not perfect and I do make mistakes......
Anyway, I DO not have a problem with P'ville... I do have a problem when PEOPLE from P'ville referring to us in the county school system as county folk who blame everything on P'ville. For one, we are NOT beneath the "city" school system. Secondly, P'ville should really thank the "county" system. Without them..... who else would they play??? Oh...there are other independent school systems BUT they would have to travel.... NOT stay here within the "county"....

10th graders are sophomores but 8th graders can play in a JV/freshmen game against nothing higher than a sophomore. I also saw no place where it was said that the schools outside of Pikeville as "county folk." If they didn't play the teams in their own county then they would play Leslie Co., Hazard, Perry County Central, Magoffin Co., Breathitt Co. Adams Middle, Paintsville, and teams like that. So it wouldn't be as big a deal as you think. I am, on the other hand, glad you are worried about our schedule. I have never seen someone so worried about another school that they can't stop posting about them. It kind of makes me feel good that someone outside of the actual people in our school system cares so much about us to keep thinking about us all the time.
