RICHMOND, Va. -- Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick accepted a plea deal Monday to avoid additional federal charges in a dogfighting case and now faces a likely lengthy prison sentence.

So when he gets out of prison will he be allowed to play in the NFL? If they do let him play I think that says alot about the NFL's ability to govern itself and it's ability to uphold the standards we expect as fans.

I say he only serves about a year if that, probably some probation to go along with that, and he will be playing again in about 2-3 years. If thats what happens then its really sad and yet another reason I hate the NFL.

If you're being serious then you're not much of an individual and PETA should be banging your door down for that comment. Dog fighting is a very cruel and violent activity, and I think they should throw the book at him. This needs to be stopped and it might take a high profile figure to not stop it, but reduce the cases of it.

I guess you're entitled to your own opinion, but letting animals who don't know any better rip each other to pieces and die horrible, painful deaths? Not only that, forcing them to do so? Are you a fan of the slave trade also? What about the killing of the dogs? Murdering animals because they don't kill other dogs as well as hoped?
Side note: he's going to plead guilty, and going to get off easy by pleading guilty because that means that money won't have to be spent on an investigation and the whole trial process. Our legal system can be a complete joke almost all of the time.

There are probably a few younger people on this website that think Vick's Dog Fighting charges are not that serious or "BS". Found this article on Vick that pretty much sums it up, especially for those who say Vicks a "good guy" and it's all a "race thing" or "it's just dog fighting."

He owned a team. He owned a city. He owned a league. He spit on all of it. Everything and everyone. This isn’t a time for apologies, unless your name is Michael Vick. No excuses, no alibis. This didn’t happen because of bad friends today or a bad family situation as a youth or the pursuit of some ravenous and misdirected and racist media.
An icon has just lost his freedom and possibly his career, and it’s not because Michael Vick is a great guy who made one bad decision. He is flawed. Not a little, but deeply.
People of great character make bad decisions and rebound. They don’t fund and operate an illegal operation whose primary functions are to fight and kill dogs. They don’t go through life always deflecting blame on friends or family. They grow up. Michael Vick never grew up. He probably never felt he had to.
He is as wonderful an athlete as we’ve ever seen. But he was flawed on the field, the residual of poor work habits and laziness. He got away with it because coaches and surrounding yes-men let him, and all the money in the world apparently couldn’t buy him a decent mirror.
He owned this town with his smile. But he was flawed off the field. So many people have said Vick is not a bad guy, but they miss the point. Somebody doesn’t have to be a bad guy to do awful things. When somebody in a position of power is immature, arrogant and just plain stupid, it’s a lethal combination.
He lied. Easy and often. He lied to the owner of the franchise who gave him a $130 million contract and the platform to earn millions more. He lied to the commissioner of the most powerful sports empire on earth. He lied to you, the people who defended him and adored him and bought his jerseys. He lied, probably because it worked before and he saw no reason to change. He thought he could skate. Why wouldn’t he? It happened after the water bottle incident in Miami, which devolved into a great tap dance by Vick and the Falcons organization. Rather than show appreciation to authorities and accept that he got away lucky, Vick suggested the police tried to frame him. That didn’t go over well in Miami or Flowery Branch.
He flipped off a crowd but figured people would forgive him quickly. Many didn’t. He allegedly transmitted an STD to a woman, but he and his attorney didn’t move quickly to bury the matter and settle the case, probably because he figured she would disappear. She didn’t. The result was talk-show lampooning and what some in the Falcons’ front office viewed as a permanent defect.
He lied about missing flights for testimony before Congress, incorrectly thinking that his endorsement company (AirTran) wouldn’t throw him under the plane. Oops.
Nike. How do you become so tarnished that you lose Nike?
So many people have wanted to make this about race and not the individual. ESPN recently explored Atlanta’s racial divide on this and several issues, dating to the Civil Rights era. But in doing so, its Web site juxtaposed photos of Vick with the likes of Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks and Ralph David Abernathy, as if they were somehow equals, either in morals or objectives.
Michael Vick and Martin Luther King — are you kidding?
“Not guilty,” Vick said three weeks ago.
“I have a dream,” King said, a week short of 44 years ago, “that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”
This isn’t the case of a person with great character jumping the track with one bad decision. A six-year operation does not constitute one bad decision. So many other incidents don’t constitute one bad decision. Betraying those who trusted you, particularly owner Arthur Blank, does not constitute one bad decision.
We’ve seen great athletes throw away careers before. Drugs, spousal abuse, a general attitude of feeling above the law. We’ve never seen somebody blow so much over something so dumb. But all are symptoms of the same thing — serious defects.
Judge Michael Vick by the content of his character. And what he just spit on.

Maybe someone should report you to the police...
Racism has been going on for years too....that doesn't make it right.
People have been murdering each other for years...again, does that make it right?
The answer is no, and you have absolutely no validity an your argument, and congratulations on admitting to enjoying an illegal activity.

You just have to overlook stupidity people, and millertime sure showed his with that statement about being a fan of dog fighting. BFritz, you said it exactly right, he will get off easy by pleading guilty and our legal system in this country is a joke, but not most of the time, all the time. I still say Vick will be playing again within a year or two, if not sooner. He is too big of a name to stay out of the game for too long, and you know how these professional sports leagues cant stand to have a big name athlete in their sport sit out for too long, but when it comes to someone that doesnt have that big of a name or is in trouble alot for petty things and stuff they havent even been proven guilty of, they write them off in a second and they are labeled as trouble making thugs. There is a double standard in pro sports and probably in college sports as well, and I hate it.

Dude got the death penalty for raping a little girl and bragging about it, that's justice, so I can't say all of the time, and I'm sure there's one or two tough sentences that we've never heard about, so I just say "most of the time," as in 99.995%.
Sorry, I know that was off topic.

My wife says that they should put that useless piece of garbage in a pit with the likes of Mike Tyson and let him just beat him until he couldn't move. Then since he didn't fight well they should drown him or electrocute him just as he did the dogs.
Anyone that says they enjoy animal cruelty is a piece of trash in my book. I think they should all be put in the pit with the dogs and covered in bacon grease.
Domesticated animals look to their owners for food and shelter and love. If you cannot do this for your animal please be considerate and do not get any.

I am glad to see a fan of dogfighting on here!!! Just as a special favor considering it is "millertime", how about you come up sometimes and you can see a dog fight first hand. I am sure our doggie would love to play and give you a first person view of a dog that is bred not to fight, but to protect. Interested??
(I will bet 1000 post wager on the german shepherd over the redneck anyday.)
It's not the size of the dog in the fight. It is the size of the fight in the dog.

or ya jus gonna stay in the dumpster where ya belong???

Dog fighting is ILLEGAL!
Shame on that guy!!
Thats one of the cruelest things to force poor animals to fight with other innocent animals to the death. This is horrible and puts the label on Pitbulls, bulldogs, and Boxers that they are very cruel and vicious, when they're actually good pets. I know many dogs of this breed that are true sweet hearts and big babies and this sport makes them look bad. Plus this is totally cruel. I hope this guy spends some time in jail and God bless those poor dogs. I hope that guy learns his lesson.
Rest in Peace you innocent souls who died for no reason in the vicious ring!!

I personally think that if it was any regular person caught dog fighting they would get off with a slap on the wrist but he was prosecuted pretty harshly because PETA saw this as an opportunity to makes news since he was famous. Once his sentence and suspension is over she should be allowed to go to any team that will take him since he will have paid his debt to society.
I could drive up and down the road and find people the fight dogs and chickens, I don't like it but it happens almost everyday.
