I was glad to hear on Monday that Van Halen will be reuniting with original lead singer David Lee Roth for a reunion tour this fall. Ive been a fan of the band since 1984 and have almost every album they ever made. I hope they come around here. I know they wont come to the expo but if they come Lexington,Louisville, or Cincy. Im gonna go see them. Do you guys think this tour will be successful? Do you young kids on here even know who they are? LOL!

HECK man! I am in college and I know that Eddie Van Halen is one of the greatest of all time. So answer your question> I WILL ALWAYS RESPECT THE PAST ROCKERS! I will go see them is they come anywhere near Pikeville or Lexington.

Id say theyll do a second leg and Lexington,Louisville, or Cincy will be added. Columbus is the same distace away as Louisville so I might even go there if thats as close as they get.

They say Eddie's son Wolfgang is as talented as him. This is awesome!

Oh yeah, that's right. I remember hearing that Eddie's son is now the new bassist, since the band and Mike Anthony parted ways. Should still be a strong lineup, if Wolfgang is anywhere near as talented as his dad.
I hope they do come to Lexington, Louisville, or somewhere like that. Right now the closest two tour dates are Charlotte and Cleveland, and that's too far for me.

I was never a big fan of Van Halen, mostly because of the way Eddie and Alex are, they are too demanding and its a thousand wonders that DLR is even a part of this tour. Eddie is a great guitarist but like I said, he and his brother are a little too demanding. The only song of theirs I ever really liked was Runnin with the Devil, the rest of them I could care less about.

I beat that they could sell out Rupp. I would love to see them in that place. I have never been to a concert there.

I am probably one of the few people who doesn't think David Lee Roth was worlds better then Sammy Hagar. I thought both guys were ok, each with their own distinct style, and I enjoyed listening to the band regardless of who was singing (let's not talk about the John Corabi era).
I guess what I'm saying is I would love to see them no matter which of the two was singing. Eddie is such an amazing talent, and I would be ecstatic if they came to Rupp.

But, IMO they were a better "Rock-n-Roll" band under DLR just because of the style of voice he had and the attitude he preformed with. By the way youre thinking of Gary Cherone. John Corabi replaced Vince Neil in Motley Crue. You had the wrong "replacement singer". LOL!

Whoops, thanks for correcting me there HP. Guess I mixed up my no-good replacement singers! Since we're on the subject, I should mention that I didn't care for either Gary Cherone or John Corabi.
I will agree with you that were more of a 'traditional' rock band under DLR, but Sammy knew how to rock, too (and still does). I actually read that he and Mike Anthony were touring together recently, after he was let go from the group.

Dont get me wrong on that, but, at times they were more prog rock than hard rock with all the keyboard stuff. I liked "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge" cause it was more of a straight on rock record like they wouldve made under DLR. "5150" was almost all keyboards and that album and "VH III" were the 2 worst they ever made IMO. What are some of your favorite VH albums?

OU812 was a good album cause thwy got away from the keyboards a little bit more than on "5150" where I bet Eddie didnt play guitar on half the songs. My favorite song of ou812 was "finish what you started".

My favorite albums were probably Van Halen, 1984, and For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge. I agree that the last aforementioned album (I won't abbreviate it, LOL) was the best effort of the Hagar era, I loved "Poundcake".
I also wasn't wild about all the keyboards on 5150, which is actually the main reason I can't stand "Jump" (is that heresy?). There's so much synthesizer it doesn't even sound like a rock song. I think it's a shame that it was their most successful song.
What were your favorite songs?

1 Unchained (Fair Warning is one the most underated rock albums of all time IMO)
2 Panama
3 Hot For Teacher
4 Poundcake
5 Aint Talkin 'Bout Love

Van Halen was best with Roth hands down! Hagar is horrible!

HP, I just noticed that our top 5 lists only had 1 song different! I guess we must have similar tastes in Van Halen music!
I think it's great that you also had "Poundcake" on your list. I always felt that the song was largely underrated, and was my favorite song of the Hagar era. How cool is it that the song started out with Eddie playing guitar with a drill?

IMO, that song saved Van Halen. With all the keyboards on the previous 2 albums( Altough I thought 0U812 was a good album) they were in danger of becoming just a straight up pop band. "Pouncake" proved that VH could still ROCK when they wanted to.

Finish What You Started(Love the whole country vibe in that song. Eddie could give Chet Atkins or Jerry Reed a run for their money in Nashville. LOL!) Trivia question? Van Halen appeared in a country music video? Name the artist and song.
