I cannot understand why any of the above 3 schools have yet to put together a solid football program. With the size of these schools and their schedules or at least some previous years. Why can they not compete for a top spot in their regions?

I think that's a question that everyone from all of those areas would like to have answered..haha

First off all these schools need to quit treating football like somethin other than entertainment till basketball starts. Secondly the community needs to quit treating the football players like "The kids who werent good enough to play B-ball" Ive heard this comment from one of the schools you mentioneds fans and Im sure thyre not the only ones who feel that way. Thirdly the need to completely restructure their little league and JR high programs. Each school needs to consolidate theyre fedder school teams at this level. Fourthly the coaches on these feeder school teams need to be on the same page witht the varsity staff and run the VARSITY offense and defense instaed of having their own agenda and these kids having to learn a completley new system when they are freshmen. With all these schools numbers they could ALL be region and state contenders in their respective classes. But instead theyd rather win region in b-ball and get blown out by 30 in the first round of the sweet 16 than actually CONTEND for a state title in football.

Well, In years past, if an athlete was worth a crap from the Dorton/Virgie area then they would attend Pikeville High to play football. And if you were from Pikeville, then you either pick Pikeville or Belfry. Just the way it has been. I really look for 1 of the 3 to make a push though in the next 2 years!

Youve got 3 feeder schools and 3 little league programs to keep an eye on. I hope youve got some coaches you can trust that can run this side while you and your assistants can focus on friday nights. I hope the O'quinns are still coaching there, they can help out alot.

I am pretty sure that Millard, Elkhorn, and Feds Creek's football programs are combining this year.

I have heard the same rumor about Virgie and Dorton.

Virgie and Dorton are combining(there football programs at least) Still heard the schools might to. But this will help to build the kids interest in football in the community. its gonna be 5-8th grades is what the fler said. Ive also heard there getting rid of the little league programs is that true? That could be a major mistake.

Definately a major mistake in any program period.

In Va trhey use to have 6-8 as middle school now it's 8-9 freshman team or JV thyllpractice with the Varsity but the 8th graders will not hit with anyone but 9th graders..little league will be 5-7th if they have one.....If Dorton and Virgie are gonna put the 5th graders with the 6th 7th 8th to be honest the 6th graders unless he's really mature is to young to bang with an 7th and 8th grader especially a hold back 8th grader..mnaybe they should do the same and put the 8th graders with the 9th and make little league 5-7th....There's talent in that area and if they can keep those kids at Valley theyll be a force to be reconed with in time...good luck to all the EAST KY teams this year..

Why consolidate feeder programs and lower the number of kids that get playing time and experience? Three schoools playing is 33 starters seeing lots of action. Consolidating feeder schools is 11 players playing and getting experience. No high school playoff games are won with county grade school championships. Get your little league program solidified keep your junior high coach intact and put that coach at the high school working with the high school coach.

I'd say they'll be looking to do what Belfry does and field a 7th and 8th grade team, and possibly a 6th.
