Clark Stepp's College Choices?
#1
According to Mike Fields of the Herald-Leader, JBS standout Clark Stepp is visiting Western Kentucky and Wright State this month and is getting attention from Mississippi State...

Congrats to Clark.

No matter what some may think about his family or the JBS program, you have to be happy to see a young man from East Kentucky get the chance to take it to the next level at a D1 school.

There are better players not getting any attention.
#3
Congrats!

Congrats Clark!....I love to see kids from the mountains suceed!

I'd say this thread will turn sour at some point but I think he is very capable of playing for a small D1 college. Clark will have to develop his game as more of a point guard and less of a scorer. He is fortunate that he has the size and ball handling skills to play point at the next level. I think he has alot of potential and hope he does well....

Clark will be a D1 player...bar none!! Too much talent, size, and genetics to prevent that!!
#7
It's good to see mountain boys get looked at.
#8
Good luck Clark, hope you land a scholarship somewhere. Clark is getting looks from coaches at the next level because he is competing with teams that travel and attend the NCAA Sanctioned events. This is where the majority of the college coaches are doing their recruiting. Staying in the mountains and just playing high school ball will not get an outstanding player enough exposure to be recruited by colleges across the nation. The local colleges may come and watch them but that is about it unless they are just flat out phenomenal.

If there are better players in the mountains not getting the attention that they should be getting, they better get on a team that is competing in these events.

well said goodguy, you have to get your name out to these coaches and playing in eastern ky you have to make the sweet 16 to even get some small looks. Clark will get looks because of the team he plays with in the summer. (camps-not local camps but big time camps, summer teams, and just recruiting yourself with tapes and stuff is the way you get looked at). My choice for him would be Wright State out of the three because he could get some playing time. Good Luck clark no matter what you do.

He's Alice Lloyd bound. I would bet a million bucks!! Just wait and see. He DOES NOT have the skills, defensive ability or the shooting ability to play D1. Who wants a kid at the D1 level that has the ugliest jump shot east of the Mississippi? Certainly not Mississippi.

I don't think Misissippi is interested, it's Mississippi State. Wink

Come on, guys. How often does a high school athlete (in any sport) get looks from a D-I school of any level? Not very often. Why put the kid down? He's obviously a very gifted player. Congrats, Clark! Good luck wherever you chose to go!

It doesn't matter how ugly his jump shot is if it goes in! I guess your perfect jump shot gave you the opportunity to play basketball at the college level!Smile

I'm not a Clark Stepp fan, I've only watched him play a couple of times. Don't slam a kid for the effort he has put out to get him to where he is today. I applaud anyone that works hard to accomplish the goals that they have set for themselves.

As a matter of fact, my jump shot did!! I'm not slamming anyone, I just stating the facts!!!!

Very True, He can dribble but that is all Im going to give him. Also just because someone gives it alot of effort dont mean they should get a D1 scholarship

The kid that played in the McDonalds All-American game that signed with Florida has the UGLIEST jump shot EVER, MUCH worse than Stepp's. Like some have said, I'm not a Clark Stepp fan either, but the kid is talented and he plays 110% all the time.

I don't know how much of the jealous mountain folk get out, but Clark Stepp will play d-1
and it doesnt matter to d-1 coaches how much you get on this local board and try to trash the kid. Dogs holwl at the moon all night long but the moon still comes and goes.
Get used to it. The kid has worked hard and a d-1 coach could care less who his family is.

I agree, and I am not going into detail but there are 4 maybe five players in the 14th that are better than Stepp but don't get the exposure, don't have the $$$, and get overlooked, but that is as far as I'm going with that. He will end up at a good school but he will not play DI I don't believe. Just trying to be realistic here.

who are they dont keep us in suspense

I think that D1 coaches know alot more about basketball than the ones of us who post on here and if he didnt deserve it then he would not get it. Apparently these coaches see what they like in him or they wouldnt be recruiting him. He has good size for a point guard and has good ball handling skills and he probably fits into what alot of coaches need for the position that he plays.

No one is going to give you a D1 scholarship just because of effort. The thing people have to realize is that sometimes being a good high school player doesnt mean that you will fill the needs of what a college coach is looking for. Everyone has seen a 6'2" kid play for their school over the years that is a very good inside player and doesnt seem to get looked at by colleges. That does not mean that he is not a good high school player it is just that that kid is not going to be able to consistently compete at the next level against bigger guys . It is two totally different environments and that is why some players get a shot at the next level and some don't.

nice post

I would like to see Stepp play D-1 somewhere.

Clark is a very talented player who has the capabilites to continue his carrier at the next level. Could he go D-1? I think he could but here is the fact, if he does go to a D-1 school chances are he is going to be what we consider a project player. He is going to be someone who they bring in and will improve the kids game and will be a model for the in coming recruiting classes. Clark is one kid who works extremly hard on and off the court. In my eyes i would rather see him go to a school in NCAA Div 2 where his talent would be used as more of a Dynamic tool. Like others have stated on here this kid is doing what is needed to get noticed to play at the next level you have to sell your self to go big you can not sit around and wait to be noticed you must take the ropes and make your self noticed and show the coaches you are someone that they need.

Until clark can hit the outside shot on a consistant basis he isnt going to be a "dynamic" talent at any level including alc's naia division II level in the KIAC

I agree and disagree with this to be honest. Yes he does need to work on his outside jump shot but like others have stated at the college level he has the body to be a PG. He already has the presence to drive and find the open man, he has the talent at handeling the ball under pressure and can break the press fairly easily. He has all the tools to be a dynamic player. In college PG are not looked on to be a consistent out side jump shooter, they are looked to penetrate and to break down the defence to get their team involved something that Clark is very capable. It is all based upon the style of play a coach is going for. We already know that his mid range jump shot is great he can pull up and nail a shot from just about any where. He doesn't care to take a big man one on one to the goal, that is what any one at the NAIA level needs. Name me one player from the mountains who had a good outside shot that was a dynamic guard at the NAIA level. One that I can name that was a great shot from outside in high school was Brad Lowe but he found out quickly that to be a player who was going to b a threat he had to penetrate and get his team involved rather than being a one man show.
