Bobby Spears will be the next Girls coach at East Ridge. The Lady Warrior program could not be in better hands. Spears is a well respected coach and a proven winner. All he asks out of his players is to be committed and to give 100%. He not only cares how his players progress as basketball players, but as people as well. He wants them to succeed on & off the court. No coach works harder & no coach will be more dedicated to making his team a winner. I have seen first hand how passionate the good people of East Ridge are about basketball and they deserve the chance to reach the level of excellence they deserve. Well now, they have that chance. Soon there will be a new force to reckon with in the 15th Region and it will be the East Ridge Lady Warriors.

I cannot believe they would hire him again, but I guess everyone desereves a second chance. Both Swindell and MCcarthy will be leaving to go to either SV or LCC.

I hope the Mods will keep an eye on this thread. I started this thread to congratulate Mr. Spears and East Ridge. I hope if people have any flaming to do, they will have enough respect to do it on another thread.
I guess the reason he was given another chance to coach is because he did nothing wrong to begin with. It was stated on this forum that Spears "would never work in this county again." So much for that huh? As for those 2 players leaving.....I have no idea. If I don't know about something, I will say I don't know. I don't post hearsay or he said she said.
Now, IMO I think its time to get this thread back on the positive side of things and let the people of East Ridge feel good about their new coach and look forward to the future.

This thread is being watched. Spears has had a great career and is looking for a fresh start. Lets move on. If you have ill feelings about Spears or want to talk about the problems from the past, save it.

East Ridge deserves to celebrate some positive news. It's been a coaching carosel there since the school began and hopefully Spears will provide some stability with the Girls position.

Ive known Bobby a few years, have followed his career and I can say firsthand that East Ridge has gotten not only a fine man, but a darn good coach. His record and accomplishments speak for themselves. He took teams with mediocre talent and made them winners time and time again, and I sincerely could care less what the "Shelby Valley click" thinks about him. Valley will never be happy with their coach, no matter who it is, and thats fact. You can call him loud, you can call him obnoxious, you can call him whatever you want, but you have to also call him a winner. A winner who keeps his kids in line, and will continue to keep them in line, stay on top of their academic progress, and turn them into winners. I am glad that he'll be back on the sidelines again, especially for a program that really hasnt had too much to cheer about. I talked to him today, and he's tickled to death about the future at East Ridge. So I send East Ridge a big congrats, and for giving him a MUCH deserved chance to coach again. .

As a Valley fan, I want to say congratulations to both Coach Spears and the Lady Warriors. They proved at the end of last season that they were a force to be reckoned with, and with Spears at the helm, this season should be very exciting. Best of luck.

Anyone know if he be a teacher at the ridge?
06-07-2007, 01:53 PM
No, he won't be teaching at ER. The job posting in the News-Express was for a coaching position only.

That is correct.

I am satisfied. I was pulling for Johnny Alvin myself (assuming he may have wanted it), but Spears seems to have what it takes.

Does anyone know what camps or summer plans Coach Spears has for his Lady Warriors?

3 Things:
1) Everyone makes mistakes, even coaches. No coach has ever been perfect and they have all said and done things they wish they could go back and change or correct. However, as a coach on any level in any sport, there aren't many "do-overs" (unless you are Bily Donovan). If you sit in the "big chair" you have to make many tough calls and unpopular decisions.
2) Bobby Spears is a fine gentleman and has certainly paid his dues. He cares about kids and takes great pride in his work. He also knows the game. I believe he still has a few good years left in coaching.
3) Best of luck to Coach Spears and the Lady Warrior Program.

Johnnie Alvin did apply for the job. I know for a fact that a lot of the parents wanted him. It is hard to pass uo on a coach like Spears with so much experience. I think Spears will do fine. He has a ton of talent at ER. ANyone can win there!

Press Conference was Today (6-11-2007) at 1:00P.M. at East Ridge High School. It is offical now and let the winning begin. Best of luck Coach Spears and the Lady Warriors. Tons of talent at ER and given the chance Coach Spears will turn the haters into believers.
Lets get to work and can't wait until basketball season.
