We all know that horse racing is huge in Kentucky and it is considered the horse capitol of the world, but Kentucky is also known for college basketball. So let me pose the situation here.
Let's say you have to choose between only keeping horse racing in KY or only keeping college basketball in KY. Meaning that if you choose to keep horse racing there will no longer be a UK, UL, or any other team. Or if you choose to keep college basketball, there will never be another Kentucky Derby.
Which would you choose:
Horses or Basketball?

Man, I doubt if anyone on here will vote for the ponies. I myself find horse racing extremely boring. I have been to Keeneland a few times, but mainly just to hang with friends and spend a pretty day outside.
Gotta go with college hoops in a landslide...

They race horses in Ky? Hoops baby!!!!!!

This has to be the dumbest question ever asked. Basketball by a landslide. I like horses but I dont like watching the derby and dont really agree with horse racing, I think its cruelty but thats me. Anyway, college basketball by far. Who in their right mind would do away with the winningest program in history for horse racing?

How is it a dumb question? We live in the HORSE CAPITOL OF THE WORLD. Where the biggest horse race in the world takes place.
The Queen of England came just to watch the Derby. I don't think she's ever come over to watch a UK basketball game.

the queen of engalnd means absolutley NOTHING with any of us so who cares if she was at a race. and i dont care if were the horse capital of the universe, your talkin about getting rid of months of basketball and the greates program of all time. and not only UK but u said UL too. we watch college hoops for 3-4 months and we wouldnt have a team to root for. thats way better then a couple minutes of the derby watchin tiny little guys whou eat tape worms ride on horses. so yes eagle, very dumb question. somebody close this thread lol

I would rather watch Hockey than to watch the Horses, and I know absoultly nothing about Hockey

Horse racing is not only "2 minutes" there are several YEARS that go into the training of those horses. The Queen obviously does mean something...to an entire nation. She may not mean anything to you, but that's a person that represents a whole nation.
It's not a dumb question, because when the world thinks of Kentucky, they don't think of UK basketball, they think of horse racing....ask pretty much anyone from outside of the state. I talked to a bunch of guys from Florida earlier this year and they had no idea that UK had a basketball team, but they knew about the derby. That's just one example.
I myself would rather have basketball, but to say that the question is dumb, is your opinion, and is very weak and unfounded.

that is bs. that is not even worth saying, its not true, and its dumber then the question. but honestly man, your askin a bunch of people from kentucky which one they would rather have, were gonna pick b-ball and when it comes down to the two we honestly could care less abot the derby.
and to talk about the years of work that go into it, you can follow high school players and how Uk recruits players from not only ky but from all around. do u keep tabs on these horses from the time theyre born and follow their training? i dont think so.
and its not my opinion that this is a dumb question, everybody seems to think so.

What about it is BS, what about it isn't true? You can say these things, but you can't back them up.
What, it's not a fact that Kentucky is more known for it's horse racing than it's basketball?
Internationally, Kentucky is known for the Derby.
If you were to ask someone from England what they knew about Kentucky, they would say the Derby.

I'm not going to say it was a dumb question, but you had to know what the result was going to be. Horse racing is followed by very few people in this state outside of Lexington, Louisville, and the rest of the bluegrass area. College basketball, on the other hand, has been described as the 'state religion' of Kentucky because the entire state is so passionate about it. And since most of the people on this site are from eastern Kentucky, you are not going to have a lot of horse racing fans.
BTW, I couldn't care any less about the Queen of England coming to visit. I still can't believe there is a such thing as a 'royal family' in this day and age.

I'll agree, if anything, the Royal Family is just a symbol as to the past England once had. The news here absolutely blew the Queen's visit out of proportion.
Yeah, I figured this would be the result, but I'm surprised that no one seems to care at all about the Derby, which is, whether you believe it or not, what defines this state to most people outside of it.

I'm not clueless. I apologize for actually getting outside of the state and talking to other people, but these guys were from Florida and we met them while skiing at Snowshoe in WV. We were talking about our basketball team and they said they knew KY more for the horses than for basketball. Keep in mind, the younger generations in Florida have not necessarily seen UK's greatness, as in recent years, their school has been dominating that field.
