Does anybody think Billy Gillspie will help U.k.? I dont because it wasn't Tubby's fault it was the players fault!! It doesnt matter about how good of coach uk gets its the players!!!!! Does anybody agree?

Tubby was a Great Coach IMO, but as stated, he was not a top notch recruiter. So when it comes to the players, then we might not have had some of the best. Also, the blue chips that we did have didn't like to run Tubby's offense and they may spark a little more under a faster pace.
BG will help that Cats out a ton with his recruiting ability. At a school like A&M he had top 25 recruiting classes year in and year out. Just imagine what he can do while offering a player the ability to put "KENTUCKY" across his chest.

It makes me mad when people make statements like this. Don't blame the players, they where only running what they where told to do. I believe a lot of the troubles we have had lately where due to the lack of ability tubby had for holding a team together. And who brought those players here? It was tubby. I believe Billy G. will be a great help to this team. If he lives up to his promise and runs what is best suited for his players we can have a great year. We just weren't conditioned to play 40 minutes last year, hopefully oh Billy boy can really get this team in shape over the summer. We need to give him at least 2-3 years to get some good recruits into the program and get his system set up.

The players are only as good as the coach makes them be. Also if you think that the players were to blame then tubby shouldnt even recruited them if they was going to be that bad.So dont blame it on the players blame it on tubby.

I also think Billy G will do a great job at kentucky. You seen how he made texas AM so good. You just give him a few years to get kentucky back in shape and we will be back in the final 4 once again

Tubby Lover, Minnesota will be lucky to win 10 games next year. They wont be any better with Tubby than they were before. True, the conference suits his style of play moreso than the SEC, he still wont make them any better than they were.

Does anyone remember how highly ranked this recruiting class was???
Rondo, Crawford, Bradley, Morris.
They were extremely talented as high schoolers, two are now in the NBA and KY underachieved in the NCAA tournament with them...Do we blame the players or the coach and style they were under at UK????

It is not about hating OTS. However, his first
move at Minnesota was to hire the Oklahoma State
assistant coach, who is known to be a GREAT
recruiter. He did not bring his staff at
Kentucky with him. Why did OTS not do this
at UK? If he had brought in a good recruiter,
we would not be having this disucssion.
Apparently, OTS was too stubborn to let himself
think that anybody at UK could tell him what
to do. Once at Minnesota, he's finding
new coaches left and right.

i think Billy will be fine if he lets the players play tubby tried to force his style on the players.

Not too stubborn, too good a person. He wasn't going to leave Hobbs and the rest out to dry. I have to admit, his assistants weren't worth a (you know what) but he wasn't just going to let them go because he'd been down a few years.
To stay on track, I am a STAUNCH OTS fan, but the move was probably better for everyone. I'll follow Minnesota and Kentucky now.
And as for Billy G..
I've always loved his coaching style. He's young, can recruit, and looks really promising for the UK program.

How is being stubborn all that inconsistent with
being a "good person." When you listen to people
talk "in the business" everybody is a "good person."
OTS lost some objectivity when it came to his own
staff. When it came time to hire assistants at
Minnesota, I think he saw how desperately he needed
some players. Suddenly, he's on the phone recruting
a good recruiter. Say what you want, but loyalty,
it seems to me, would cut that slice too, if that's
what was going on.

LOL
First, define "super season."
Second, if you're saying that Minnesota will make it to the Sweet 16 or better, I will personally shave my head bald if they do.

UK was good, then Tubby slowly decrescendo'd the program to being "decent" and now that he's gone we're working on getting number 8.

I posted this in another thread and I think it pertains to the recruiting problems Tubby suffered.
Kentucky had not signed a McDonald's All-American in the fall signing period since Marvin Stone and Keith Bogans in 1998. Why does that matter, given that Joe Crawford, Rajon Rondo and Randolph Morris all made the game? Because UK was not the first and only choice for these players. Kentucky might be OK going to the second or third option on its list to hire a coach, but it wants to be first in the hearts and minds of whomever it pursues.

I'm sorry, but as Harry S. Truman once said, "The buck stops here" and that is intended for Tubby. I was a Tubby supporter and stood by him, but he did what was best for him. his family and the school and that was to move on. I wish him nothing but the best and I hope Minnesota enjoys a great season and somehow, UK and the Golden Gophers are in the same NCAA bracket next year to meet in the Sweet 16 - that would be very dramatic.

I think Coach BG will do more for this program as Coach Pitino did when He came. of course we are not on probation, but he is a workhorse who has won me over already!

You could say it was stubborness, I could say it was because he was a good person, but ultimately it's opinionated.
