True. I mean no wonder the world is falling apart. You cant whip your kids anymore and you have to adopt pets now. I was whipped when I was younger and I plan on whipping my kids when they do something wrong. It seems to me you can tell a lot between kids that have been whipped and kids that havent.

I agree. Kids will learn to not repeat their mistakes if you bust their butt. Writing sentences, time out, other forms of punishment doesn't scare them enough to make them learn a lesson. I've had to spank Lexie a couple of times and it really does suck but some things just deserve it. And like BC said, there is a big difference in whipping and beating. You shouldn't leave marks or bruises on them. I was raised this way as well. I learned my lessons really quick too.

When I was little my grandmother would make me go cut a switch off of a weeping willow if I screwed up. Guess what? I learned not to screw up......

I get so sick of watching kids run around like little animals in the store, mall and restaurants while their parents try and try to reason with them and offer them things to get them to settle down or just completely ignore them. Mine either settled down or we took a trip to the bathroom and took care of the attitude.

Yea my dad made me do the samething. Except I thought I could out smart him and get a rotten limb and it broke when he whipped me and made me go get another. He said " If this one breaks then I get double the whips"

I think my mom has actually whipped me once herself if that but that's because my grandpa always did it becuase everyone knew it hurt me the most snce I was a papaw's girl. In high school if I did something the whipping took an backseat to grounding, which really sucked because I always wanted to go somewhere or be on the phone or internet and couldn't. I'm 19 now and I'm sure if I made my mom made enough she's bend me over and give me a good whippin. I'm still not old enough and I don't think I ever will.

My little sister on the other hand, I believe she has been whipped but it doesn't do anything for her since she gets away with so much, she is being raised so much different than what I was. I mean when I was 8 years old I didn't even know what a cell phone was and she's 8 and she is getting a new KRAZR for Easter...why you ask... because she wants one. It wouldn't surprise me if she didn't end up with a Ipod here soon just because I got one for my birthday.

She is a little smart-mouthe brat and she NEEDS a couple good whippings to teach her better. But she's one of those kids who if you whip her or threaten to whip her she'll come back at you with some smart remark which makes her punishment worse...for her my step-dad thinks it's better to make her sit on the steps than to whip her.

My sister is 12 and is the same way. All she talks about are cellphones, iPods, Myspace, her boyfriend, and crap like that. She was allowed to play on the laptop that I got for MY high school graduation ($800 flippin' dollars) anytime that I wasn't touching it. My mom let her. I stopped that tonight when I came home and there was a chip on the top of it. She flipped out when I got my iPod and took my old mp3 player. She went behind my parents back and got a Myspace. I found out and told my parents eventually but she was allowed to keep it. The minimum age on there is 14 for a reason. She is allowed to go more places and be dropped off than I ever was. I didn't get a car until I was 18, she will have one the day she turns 16 I bet. Things like that really piss me off. She doesn't get punished for ANYTHING. She is the biggest smartass I know. She is always rolling her eyes or doing the little hand gestures when she is talking to anyone, my mom included. I really don't understand why they don't treat her like I was brought up.

I will tell you as a former Police officer I seen this to many time, Get called on parents for trying to make there child mind by whipping them. I am not going to say that everyone wasnt a legit complaint but 90% of them the kid needed to be whipped.
I think now the kids know all they have to do is call Social Services or 911 and they can get their parents or guardian into trouble for trying to make them mind.

Myself I never did whip my daughter, but alot of that was for the simple reason that her mother and myself divorced and I felt that if I did whip her that it would push her further away from me. Now I wish I did because I have a time trying to get her to mind. Short of it is if you have to do it but do it to where you dont leave marks.

i got whipped basically on a daily basis, but then again.. i deserved.. but i think that it has made me be more respectful to my elders. i mean i would never think of hitting an older person or robbing them for that matter. i saw something on tv the other day where this dude popped an 87 year old woman in the face 2 times just so he could steal her purse..

I agree with ya 100%, this is how I was rasied as well but I will never go to far with my kids. If they do deserve it then yeah they will get it, but I will not beat my kid senseless fir no apparent reason.

First off I dont even have a child, but alot of kids do get whipped for no reason what so ever and beaten as well, but as said before there is a difference between the two. But this is how I was raised, I was spanked for getting into trouble when I deserved it, but I wasnt spanked, whipped whatever you want to call it for doing absolutely nothing, and I will never do that to my child when and if I have one in the future.

I didn't have to be whipped (not that I wasn't at times)....... my dad could point his finger and snap and we knew to move! Heck, I still listen to my parents and I am a grown woman with kids of my own!!! LOL....

My little sister on the other hand benefited NONE what so ever from it. Her lifestyle changed when she moved to NY and she hasn't been the same person since!! I would NEVER think of doing some of the things she does and she is only 19 months younger than me!!!

I do remember a teacher I had during high school. He taught American History and if you acted out in his class he took you outside his room, told you to put your hands over top of the lockers, he then proceeded to pull your belt loop to get a good hold on ya and he gave ya three "NICE" licks with a paddle. The principal in an elementary school (which I attended for 3 years) used to walk the halls with a belt. She wasn't a big woman either.... THIN and petite.... Don't think I ever saw anyone get out of line with her!! LOL....

My dad never hit us or anything, but we respected him so much and feared him so much that it kept us in line for the most part.

My father's a great and loving man, don't get me wrong, but it was just him being mad or upset or let down was worse than any beating we could have gotten. It's not even that his expectations were that high, he just expected hard work and respect.
