Magoffin vs. Pikeville
#61
Too much Defense for the Hornets, Pikeville is the second best defensive team in the region. There defense will set the slow pace and Pikeville will grind it out in their typical fashion.
Pikeville- 57
Magoffin- 54

pikeville needs better guard play, they look to score to much

BasketBallonlyfan Wrote:Good report. Only a few flaws in it. Pikevilles guards are quicker than Paintsvilles guards so they might could keep Tyler from driving the ball to the goal. You dont have to worry about double teams under the goal, Pikeville never does that. They have confidence in their 6'10" center. Pikeville does play passing lanes and pressure defense more than Paintsville does.

6'10"? Last I heard the guy was 6'8".

I was listening to the radio the other night and even Pikeville's coach was saying he didn't think they could score with Magoffin.

Pikeville's guards may be quick but they are much smaller to, I look for Tyler Hunley, Clay Fletcher and Eric Arnett to maybe post them up....

Hornets all the way! I think they will win by 4...this game may be too close for comfort.

Didnt Pikeville beat Magoffin County over in a preseason game at Belfry? I think I rememeber a post where they beat them by 12 or 14. i will look back in the old lists and see.

If they can hold SV below 60 points, they can definitely do it to Magoffin...

Good for you, that was then, this is now, that was a few good months ago, this Panther squad has gotten ALOT better since then, as has Magoffin Co.

I seen him standing beside Todd May when Paintsville and Pikeville played, Todd was looking up to him. It looked from where I was sitting that boy was at least an inch, maybe a inch and a half taller.

Magoffin has improved since then too, just saying we beat them .:howdy:

I seriously doubt that coach Williams siad that unless he was joking or angry...Pikeville can score with anyone in the region when they are on.
#76
I believe its gonna be a great game and if the hornets can keep it together they will pull away with the BIG W.
#77
I'll go with Magoffin in what will probably be one of the best games of the tourney.

I also heard the coach say that. He said that he was afraid that Pikeville could not score with Magoffin.
#79
That's a fine statement for the Pikeville coach to make! If he doesn't think they can win, he shouldn't complain if they don't and when looking for someone to blaime if they loose, I would suggest the mirror!

And I see a few flaws in your post also.
You say Pikeville has better guards than Paintsville and they have a better inside presence with their center.
Then how did Paintsville defeat them twice? Once 68 to 61 and again 67 to 59 in the All "A"?????????????
#81
I'm gonna go with my boys from the nest.. Hornets by 10. They are hungry for the win. As for playing a team from Pikeville in Pikeville, it can be no harder than playing Paintsville on their home court with incompetent refs who seemed to favor Paintsville.

But we win and I love it...:letsparty

Go boys!

I guess he did say that then - maybe in hopes of focusing his players because he seemed fairly confident today.

He said Pikeville's gaurds were quicker than Paintsville's. Both times they played Paintsville shot very well and did a good job pounding with their forwards.

What an stupid statement SSDD!!! I heard Coach Williams' interview as well. He said that he didn't think his team wanted to get into a shootout with Magoffin Co. And I agree with him 100%. The Hornets just won the district tourney at Paintsville. Williams knows that if Magoffin can run and gun with Paintsville then they are for real. Also, I know Bart, he always "sandbags" when he talks about his team. He loves his players and his players know that. He has been around this game since he could walk and he has probably forgot more basketball than you ever knew!!! He has his team playing well at tourney time and you better believe that he thinks they have a shot to be playing Saturday Night!!!

Coach Williams is a very comitted coach. He knows his team and what they do well and what they need work on. As does everyone who watches them play. If he said a statement like that, then he was probably just pointing out the areas that his team is weaker and the areas they are stronger than his opponent. The Panthers will be ready to play and I am sure if Bart said anything like that, then he has certainly focused on those areas in practice and they will come out strong on Wednesday night!! Good luck to you Panthers! We will be cheering you on in Lexington!!! Panthers by 7...54 to 47:Clap:

This will be a great game between these teams, I cant wait to see it. Im pulling for the Hornets to win, but it will be a battle. I know Pikeville took Magoffin out in the first round back in 2001 when he had our best chance to win region, so Im thinking they are looking forward to this game as well. I will admit I have been on the hornets case almost all season, but I have changed my ways, especially after the Hornets beat Paintsville at Paintsville in the district tournament. I will go with the Hornets in this battle.

If I recall wasn't the shortest starter like 6'3" and they also had a 7'0'' in Summa.

How they don't go to state is beyond me, I once heard someone say that any other coach could have won state with that team.

But I know it wasn't the coach it was the players, selfishness ruin them.
Pretty sure Tim Summa scored 30 + his first game and didn't score 20 but a few more times, team got jealous.

And their is no jealousy on this years team they all want the same thing to win, not as much talent but 10 times the heart and drive to win.

GO HORNETS!!!!:wenumber1
