Magoffin vs. Pikeville

15thRegionX Wrote:Very True. When they got in foul trouble last night I didn't think the bench could keep them in the game and they proved me wrong. If they play like that at regions then they have a good shot at making some noise.

When Paintsville had all of their players with 4 fouls or so, I looked over there at the MC bench and knew that a second OT would probably kill the Tigers anyway! On most nights the Tigers have what are usually 5 of the most capable players on the floor in the 57th, but that is it. They can't even go 6 deep without a drop off in talent. MC has a very solid bench and I would take a deep bench over a slight talent edge any day! I think if they keep playing to their potential that MC has a great shot at the finals, especially with the bracket they drew!

Tigers Def. have the best starting 5 in the region. Agreed on the no bench thing though. They only played 7 last night and the 2 off the bench seen very limited time. Paintsville looks to be very weak once Landon and them boys leave.

True when Slone and the starting five leave Paintsville, it will decimate them. Because other than those five they have nothing solid. But back to what this thread is about, I think Magoffin will pull off the win against Pikeville, and if they keep playing with the same intensity that they have been playing with the last 3-4 games they could quite possibly make a heck of alot of noise in the regional, they have the ability to be playing in the finals, and possibly winning it all. They just need to keep playing with the heart and talent that they have been.

well ill take MC in a close one

Magoffin needs to keep the little mistakes to a minimum like someone said earlier. They made a lot of errors against Paintsville that i'm sure can be blamed on nerves. If Coach West and Co. can keep the team calm and focused then Magoffin County will be 100% capable of winning this one.

The school system also needs to do whatever it takes to get the fans out for this game. At the district championship game Magoffin's fans seemed both bigger and louder than Paintsville's on their own court. When I was a student the school provided buses for the students to ride to the Region tournament. Hopefully they'll be doing this again this year.

Like a few people have already said, I don't know much about Pikeville this year. But by looking at their record, the Hornets will have their hands full even if they play at their very best. But I predict the Hornets will thrive off the momentum of winning the 57th and advance to the next round.

Didn't Magoffin and Pikeville play a pre-season game this summer at Paintsville?
#39
i havnt heard much about pikeville this season, but imo if magoffin plays with the same intensity they played with in the 57th championship, any of there opponets are going to have there hands full. I think there bench is going to have to perform as they did against paintsville, protect the ball, thay cant have silly turnovers. Hit free throw, and point guard Tyler Hunley has got to look to score more. He passes up to many open shots that he can make. They have more heart than any team ive watched play in a long time. Id would love to see MC make some nosie in the 15th. Good luck, Hornets by 6

Yes, I think that MC won by 2 or 3, it wasnt much. But that also was a strange day of basketball.

If I remember correctly, Magoffin beat Pikeville by 10+? Did Pikeville and Lex Cath play this same day?

Yes, Pikeville beat Lex. Cath. that same day. It seemed like if you lose a game you win over a team that beat the team that beat you.

We still beat Pikeville by 10 or more. Doesnt matter who they beat, we won that game. And we played first game I think.

As someone said in an earlier post, Tyler Hunley has to be a factor. I think the only person on the floor who stoped Tyler the other night was Tyler.
Paintsville didn't have anyone who could guard him when he took the ball to the goal.
He has to be a scoring threat, to keep the defense from sagging back and double teaming Eric and Devin.
He has good enough passing skills to get rid of the ball if the shot isnt there, but he has to look to score more, a lot more.

good job hornets!!!!!!!! and good luck at the expo!!!!!

Good report. Only a few flaws in it. Pikevilles guards are quicker than Paintsvilles guards so they might could keep Tyler from driving the ball to the goal. You dont have to worry about double teams under the goal, Pikeville never does that. They have confidence in their 6'10" center. Pikeville does play passing lanes and pressure defense more than Paintsville does.

I'll take my hornets in this one. Its just hard to give an exact score, since these two teams haven't met in regular season. Hopefully the momentum from the district tournament will carry over into region for magoffin!

Magoffin Co. by about 8.

"Dear Lord"
The battles we go through in life.
Give us the chance to play.
The chance to pull strike.
The chance to do it again.
If we should win.
Let it be by the code
with faith and honor held high.
If we should lose.
Let us stand by the road
and cheer as the winners go by.
And day by day
We get better and better
Until we can't be beat.

Got this from a kcc fan.
