Magoffin comes off their first district title since 2001 and a huge win against Paintsville. I look for this to be a great game. Thoughts?

I haven't watched Pikeville play this year so I don't know how they play. But I do know this: If the Hornets play with the heart and defensive intensity that they played with in the District Tournament, they can play with and beat any team in this tournament.
Hornets by 3. GO MAROON!!!!

I'll agree with you -STATS-. If the win over Paintsville wasnt to big of win for them that they can't get up that much again.

Pikeville wins this one by 5 to 7 points. If they hit their freethrows.
It's not the size of the dog in the fight. It is the size of the fight in the dog.

I think Pikeville will win by 9. SHould be a great game. I think the winner of this game will come out of the bracket. Good luck to both teams. You couldn't have asked for a better bracket than the one you are in.

OK, this may be dangerous, Pikeville is my sleeper in the 15th. They have the personnel to make a run to the finals, very quick, size, scoring is their biggest setback. I will take Pikeville to win and advance to the finals with a rematch with Valley, look for the Panthers to use some of Big T's past experiences on the bench. See you later in the week, big "un".

Remember they are playing on the large floor. If they let #2 play, Pikeville by 12 plus.
3 of their 11 losses was to SVHS.

It is very difficult to beat Pikeville anywhere near Pikeville...remember the 1999 regionals at Pikeville? But the Hornets will fight through it for a victory!

Maggofin County by 10.
03-04-2007, 02:08 AM

Pikeville upset Magoffin in 2001 in the first round of Region. Hope Magoffin can pull this one out!

Hornets!!!!

Is the big kid from pikeville any good, or just a big body?
03-04-2007, 02:56 AM
I'll be rooting for Magoffin Co.!! And I have no doubt that they have the ability to pull it out!!
But I'll have to give a slight edge to Pikeville because of their size and season performance and because the game is played IN Pikeville (which doesn't hurt)! Keys to Hornet victory:
(1) Play with same intensity they played with in the District Final!
(2) Do not suffer a let down from the Paintsville game or the District Championship!
(3) Avoid the silly and costly mistakes (ie. traveling, throwing the ball away, etc.) that hurt them in the Paintsville game. In other words, play smart and keep your composure!!
(4) Use the depth of the bench which really helped in the Paintsville game!

Agreed 100%! They made some costly Turnovers against Pville, and the bench really stepped up. I believe the AC game really helped Magoffin a lot by sititng their 2 starters due to injury and they needed some bench players to step up and they did!

You are right! IMO MC's bench is a big asset for the Hornets! They have 5 talented starters, but they have a very talented bench as well. That can keep players fresh which can be crucial if you get foul trouble or want to play high intensity defense!

Very True. When they got in foul trouble last night I didn't think the bench could keep them in the game and they proved me wrong. If they play like that at regions then they have a good shot at making some noise.
