Best teams in the 57th district in 07
#1
In my openion, the 57th will be wide open this year. Honestly the only stand out team in the district is Lawerence County. Saying this, the district in my openion is wide open for a Magoffin County or a Sheldon Clark to make a run within the district. Lawerence Co. is by far the best team in the district. with the exception of them Magoffin is probably the best offensive team within the district, and Paintsville and JC fields the best pitching staffs. In my openion the 57th district breaks down as follows.

1.) Lawerence
2.) JC
3.) Paintsville
4.) Magoffin
5.) Sheldon Clark

Again, JC and Paintsville must be rated in the top 3 simply due to tradition, but dont be suprised if Magoffin thier offensive run capability or Sheldon Clark changes things up this year.

Magoffin County won't be to bad is what I'm hearing, last year most of their starter's were Freshman.

This is all such garbage....you can't back anything you have posted up with facts.

i agree i dont think for one second that lawrence county is a standout team at all!!!for one thing they didn't even make the tournament last year and you have johnson central(who has the best player in the region)and also paintsville...unless those to play each other in the district first round they could possibly play for the regional championship against each other as well. magoffin and sheldon clark are an after thought

i agree for t he most part the 1 spot would be close b/n central and p-ville and understandibly magoffin should be thought of as out of the equation but watch out i mean the only reason p-ville beat us last year was our coach which was too hard head to change a pitch the same way he did agianst lchs....so just be caredul who you count out

Doesn't matter, if they continue to draw instead of seed Two of the best teams won't make region.

Who does LC have that is so great? I mean they have Hayes, Roberts, and Cyrus but it really doesn't go much deeper.

i would have to say

1.)Paintsville- a contender year in and year out they always have a good team..i think they they will win the district again and be a top team in the 15th regional tournament

2.)Johnson Central-I think that jc wille be the number 2 team in the district all season if anyone is going to contend with paintsville with consistancy its going to be them

3.Sheldon Clark-I dont think that sheldon calrk is going to be that strong this year with limited pitching and some young players that havent got alot of playing time...unless some underclass men step up and play good this year sheldon clark could not only start out in 3rd place but finish there as well...

4.)Lawerence-LC has about 4 standout players im not sure how deep there pitching is this season or there roster in general but it is possible that they can be contenders in the 57th this year

5.)Magoffin-I have herd alot of things about magoffin this year people say they where young last year and that they have inproved magoffin may give some district teams a scare this year but we will have to wait and see

I am not trying to bash Mag. Co. so don't start stoning me just yet. But I have seen this bunch from Mag. Co. play since they were 9 years old, and they have never been very good. Sure they have flashes of being good, but they have never allowed that to happen very long.
Now....if they can prove themselves throughout the year as a consistant team. and can beat a few good teams, and play with very good teams, then their coach might be the best in the region!

I promise you that Magoffin will be VERY competitive this year.. I wouldn't plan on a push over team. Cant wait to hear the crack of the bats this season. good luck to all in the 57th.

I wouldn't overlook magoffin, they have the ability to beat anyone at anytime.
#13
Who are the pitchers Paintsville will be using this season? Who will be their starters and relievers?
#14
No one on any given day can be overlooked.

I sure wish this district would seed instead of drawing though.

Earnhardt Fan Wrote:Who are the pitchers Paintsville will be using this season? Who will be their starters and relievers?
All of Paintsville's pitchers will see time starting and in relief.
In order of class:
Seniors: Jonathan Miller, Daniel Pugh, Josh Watkins
Juniors: J.D. Vanhoose, Corey Humpfrey, Shane Grimm, Travis Ison
sophs: Tyler Lemaster, Jake Cyrus, Zach Vialpando
frosh: Austin Lyons, Seth Rice
#16
All of those are pitchers??
Must be nice to have what looks like over half a roster of pitchers.

Yes...all but 2 pitched varsity last year, the other 2 pitched only jv last year.
#18
No doubt, LC will suprise alot of people. But to say that all they have is Hayes, Roberts, and Cyrus is a bit unfair, don't ya think?? There are quite a few very talented players for LC and these 3 are indeed at the top but not the only players. Look for the Dawgs to do well this season!!

Paintsville is usually loaded with pitchers. Which of these pitchers were JV only last season?

Well you have Shane Pack and Chandler Shepard, Ramsey Compton, are just a few more names to throw out there.

Cyrus 1 win, 1 loss, both against Boyd Co. Combined for 12 K's, 2 hits, 2 BBs, 1 run, 0 earned runs.
Vialpando was the other JV only pitcher, has a naster curve.

This seems right. Paintsville may surprise some this season. They are looking good.

Surprise? They were in the Regional Championship last year and lost zero pitching. Only 2 starters are gone from last years squad.

I dont think that it is a surprise at all, but you have to remember that Johnson Central and Lawrence Co. both can both state about the same thing. In fact, nobody in the 57th district, other than Sheldon Clark lost any pitching whatsoever. JC only lost 2 non pitchers and I think that Lawrence Co. didn't loose anybody, period. It's going to be a real dogfight in my opinion.

How did the Dunbar scrimmage come out? I expect that Dunbar will be one of the elite teams in the state this year. That's jumping right into the frying pan with both legs. lol

Oh, I know it will be a fight to get out of this Dist. I just thought it funny, that the word surprised was used when talking about Paintsville. They have been to the Reg. Championship game 7 of the last 8 years. I wouldn't even use "surprised", when talking about JC or LC. Any of these 3 can win the Region. As far as the Dunbar "Scrimmage", LOL! I didn't go, but, I heard that they had thier concessions open and dressed in full Uniform and we showed up in Practice attire. LOL! Because we were there to "Scrimmage" and try many different things. I don't know any details on any sort of stats. If I told you any, I would be lying. Now that I think about. Maybe we need to open I concessions during our home scrimmage. I always hated going to a game and no concession. LOL!:Hungry:

I am sitting here trying to get the shirt orders ready to send in and thinking about how excited I am for the Baseball season to begin, yet stressed to get everything done that must be done!
We have already begun working on getting the concessions updated and ready for our home opener!
I don't believe there's any way our concessions can be open on Saturday. I am talking to a couple of groups to see if they might be interested in setting something up under the press box.
The scrimmage with Dunbar was just that... a scrimmage. We played everyone everywhere! Many many pitchers.... very nice facility for those kids. I believe one gentleman said they had 80 come out for Baseball and the kids who made the team were Baseball Players ONLY. The Tigers show great promise & I look forward to seeing them play! I'd like to wish all 57th District teams Good Luck this season!

Dunbar is loaded this year. I think they have already had about 4 kids that I know of sign in the early signing period. Admired you all taking them on first thing out of the gate.

Dunbar is loaded!!! They have a great facility and are at mid-season form. We went there throwing fastballs changes. They through everything!!! We were able to hit them but could only muster 3 runs. We were also without our starting catcher, Grimm was unable to pitch, Vanhoose wasn't there either. They took advantage of our freshman catcher, even tried to steal home twice...unsuccessfully, and a suicide squeeze!!! Which our catcher called for a pitchout, but the batter jumped across the plate to bunt the ball....the parent/umps let it stand but would have been an inning killer as the next guy was out and inning over, but they put up about 10 runs on our freshman pitchers. Their scoreboard is just like ours...I think it said the final was 77-43!!
All in all, I saw several bright spots for the Tigers. Dunbars Coach said he didn't pitch his ace, but several parents told me that their ace did indeed pitch the first 2 innings as a scout from the Oriole's was there to see him.

Dunbar's ace is Thomas Royce. He has already signed with Louisville and is a legitimate 90 mph'er. If he threw, I think that you would remember him very clearly. Anybody fit that description? If you didn't see anyone who threw upper 80's to touching the low 90's, he didn't throw.
