Toughest place to play in the 15th
#31
mrfootball03 Wrote:Like I said, of all the places I've played at..

I would have to say #1 is Paintsville..
We couldn't hardly even warm up.. for the fans being right in our ear..

And thats saying alot..
I've played at every gym in the 15th except Piarist & David School, including Elkhorn City & Feds Creek's old gym lol

If I would have to rank the top 10.. Heres how it would stand:

1. Paintsville
2. Phelps
3. Magoffin Co.
4. JC
5. Prestonsburg
6. Allen Central
7. Shelby Valley
8. Pike Central
9. Pikeville
10. South Floyd

I do not rank Belfry in here, coz it was always easy to play there, it was home lol

you must not like Shelby Valley to good...do you!!

I gotta go with SV.
They haven't lost at Valley since Feb of '04 to Lex Cath.

Over the last 3 seasons Paintsville's home record is 22-6, and Shelby Valley's home record is 28-0...

So they're both tough to play in!

Since the 1999/2000 season here are the records for Paintsville and Shelby Valley at home:

Paintsville - 58-10 (68 Total games)
Shelby Valley - 79-7 (86 Total games)

No doubt it is difficult to get a win at either place! Especially with Paintsville and to some extent SV having a mediocre team a year or two during that time period. But as far as comfort, I'd rather play in SV's gym than Paintsville's gym.

That's why I think Paintsville holds a slite edge in this area. Unless you are used to playing in such close quarters, it's hard to focus sometimes. Especially when you have a fan screaming in your ear from just about 3 feet away! LOL!

Exactly! SV's fans may be as good or better, but with Paintsville's old gym, it is a difficult place to play. Not the easiest place to play even for the Tigers, but it is home.

Has nothing to do with it pal.. I'm talking from a players standpoint

Playing at Paintsville is simpy more intimidating.. There is just more pressure when you play there then anywhere else.. I really don't think its too tough to play at SV.. Its too big of a place to feel much pressure, unless its during region like it used to be.. SV may have the best fans in the world, but thats only one aspect.. What has alot to do with SV's record is the fact they were the better team, and theres not much you can do with that.. SV would be just as tough if we played the game outside at a park.. Thats why I do not think SV's gym is that tough of a place to play.. Just like why I put Phelps in at #2.. Phelps some years arn't very good at all, but you can guarantee when you come to thier house, your going to have to fight for everything you get..

Home winning percentages over that time period:

Paintsville: 85.3%
Shelby Valley: 91.9%

Also, during the past couple of years the Paintsville record included games in the Hoops Classic...

Games in the Hoops Classic were Paintsville home games weren't they???
Of Course, they are included.

I have to say from a players standpoint the old "cracker boxes" as we called them were tough. So I would say that the ones left are the toughest like Paintsville or Mag. County.

Although I only played a few AAU games there, I would have imagined that Feds Creek would have been one of the toughest.

Oh, It definley was.. The people are actually right on the court.. Everyone in the gym was no further than 10 feets from the court.. So it always was hot and loud.. Not too mention you had one goal that hangs from the roof, and the other that mounted on the wall.. lol Then you had the locker rooms that felt like a dungeon.. We always had the better team going into Feds Creek when I played, but your weren't going to blow them out at home.. It was tough there... But they were due a new place..

Shelby Valley home games included the Hobert Potter Classic Tournament that they held at home as well, all home games, tournaments included, were figured into the records!!!

Allen Central.

Yeah, no doubt that SV has a great home record! But it is the cracker box gyms as they have been referred to that really put the heat on the visiting players, and to some extent even the home players. You feel the fans as they are a lot closer.

I'll bet them ole gyms in games back in the 40's and 50's where the older fans claim to have tripped the visiting players running down the floor were really tough to play in!!

Yes actually that has happened at Feds Creek before.. Peoples feet in the bottom section of bleachers affecting the game...

ComeFlyWithMe Wrote:See that's the thing, like #3, Pikeville's oh so great section people get on here and talk about, and how they have this hail pikeville thing, they're only there at the games when it's good, the Blue Crew is always there, I think one of their bggest crowds of the year was when they played Oneida Baptist. Valley has, hands down, the best fan section, and makes their gym the toughest place to play in the 15th region.

They were onlt 3 blues clues fans at MC tonight plus 2 rowdy moms that could out do all of the three even with their megaphones

why wouldnt hey let MC pllay over there afraid of losing their streak?

i think Lawrence County is the toughest place to play..

I was trying to say that Paintsville has a tougher home schedule than Valley with the Hoops Classic, so it would be difficult for them to go undefeated at home for an entire seasons, but whatever...
