South Charleston only lost to Huntington by 19... I'd say they are pretty decent...
What does Elliot Co. look like this year?

Young & Talented as they start 5 Sophs, then come off bench with a Jr & another Soph. No size however which will hurt them against South. They press, run the court & pull up 3's off the break. A very hard working team which most fans enjoy watching their style & hustle. Excellent shooters in 4 of the 1st 6 kids. I would say the team hits around 45% on 3's. Have 3 of the best Sophs in the state 2 which are twin guards with a very high basketball IQ and a Maynard kid (a Jr.) whose parents are originally from that area, Phelps. He led their region last year @ 91%Ft's & 46% 3 pt FG%.To bad they have a game Friday night then have to travel so early Saturday morning so you may not see their best performance. Either way I would say South will probabaly come out with a 15 -20 pt win.

Well hmm..
other that the AC Williamson game... WV may wipe KY out completely in this game..
Gilbert might pour it on Belfry
But Belfry will be rested.. Gilbert played tonight.. so... they may be tired

Paintsville lost by 4 in Overtime. Spring Valley shot over 40 FT's and Paintsville shot around 14 and they also had 3 intentional fouls. Either the ref's were whistle happy against Paintsville or the Tigers were completely out matched and by fouling them was the only way they could have slowed them down. I wasn't there but did catch the tail end of it on the radio. Anyone there care to fill us in on the rest of the games.

Paintsville lost that game but it was their own fault. Slone had a layup with 2 seconds to go to win the game in regulation and he missed it. So don't wanna hear anything about the refs. Although one intentional foul was bull. Paintsville was down the whole game by anywhere from 8-10 and they came back to take the lead by as much as 6...They were up 3 with under a minute to go and Spring Valley hit a 3 to tie. Slone had a wide open 3, faked it and drove in the final seconds and had a layup right at the rim that he missed so the game went into overtime. It was all Spring Valley from there. Spring Valley did shoot alot more free throws..but alot of that was because Paintsville fouled them everytime they touched the ball in the last minute in a half of overtime. Paintsville gave this one away.

What rediculous comments...Mr. Football was right on the mark. The Ky teams won the girls games, but except for Allen Central and Williamson, the West Virginia teams took the rest. And Gilbert did pour it to Belfry I'm ashamed to say. It was all good action though. A good tournament.

The Tigers are going to have to play better D. I heard that they only shot in the mid 30% range while Spring Valley shot close to 50%. That tells you a lot. The Tigers out rebounded Spring Valley so we know that they didn't have trouble controling the boards! It sounded like it was just one of those games where the Tigers played sloppy D and didn't shoot well. That is a bad situation when you play the run and gun style that Paintsville does. Hopefully they can learn from it and move on. But it will take a better game that one like this to get to Rupp!

I agree with you EKS. However, playing games like this in a tournament atmosphere and LEARNING from your mistakes, is how teams like PHS get to Rupp. These games are key to developing a team. Runyon is a smart man.
Now, if PHS would just LEARN from their mistakes. How many more games with bad D have to happen?

I also heard that Spring Valley had 2 kids that could absolutely shoot the 3.

Paintsville forced 21 turnovers and had the rebounding edge. Spring Valley made 25 of 26 free throws. Forcing 21 turnovers is a pretty active "D".

That's the main thing, LEARNING from their mistakes. They keep making the some one's over and over, it's the consistent little mistakes they make that hurt them so much.
