Coach Smithâs teams have competed in then SEC as well. His teams are 13 -2 in SEC tournament play, winning five of seven SEC tournament titles. The regular season SEC record is an equally impressive 94 â 24 [see below], winning the regular season title 4 of his 7 seasons.
SEC Regular Season Record: 1998 through 1/25/05
West Div W-L
Alabama 4-3
Arkansas 5-2
Auburn 7-1
LSU 7-1
Mississippi 6-2
Miss St 6 -1
East Div W -L
Florida 10-4
Georgia 11-4
USC 15-0
Tennessee 10-4
Vanderbilt 13-2
Totals 94-24
Coach Smith has distinguished himself and his record speaks for itself. Indeed, Coach Smithâs accomplishments scream out for acknowledgement. Coach Smithâs current team may be his best. That is why I compared them to the best of the best last week.
Of all the parameters I track and monitor, Net Game Efficiency correlates best to success when measured by Final Four appearances and Championships. Using the Net Game Efficiency as the criteria, Tubbyâs 2005 Cats are Tubbyâs best and the third best Kentucky team since 1972.
The 2005 Kentucky team has posted a 14-2 record while producing a Net Game Efficiency of 0.184 points per possession. Coach Smithâs other powerful teams include 1998 [National Champions, 0.142 ppp], 1999 [Elite Eight loss to Michigan State, 0.147 ppp], and 2003 [Undefeated in SEC play, Elite Eight loss to Marquette, 0.141 ppp]. These four Smith coached teams also stack up well when their Net Game Efficiencies are compared with all teams since 1972. Only the 1996 [0.203 ppp] and 1997 [0.201 ppp] Pitino teams posted higher Net Game Efficiencies than the 2005 Smith team. Four of the top eleven Kentucky teams in this category are Smith teams [2005, 1998, 1999, and 2003]. Four Pitino coached teams place in the top 11, and three Hall coached teams appear in the top 11. Coach Suttonâs best team, 1988, ranks 17th of 34 for Net Game Efficiency [0.111 ppp].

You do not have to make it to the final four every year just to be a great coach, Most of you Tubby haters just don't like him because of his race. Tubby Smith is one of the best coach's that Kentucky Basketball has ever had. If you hate him so much don't watch them play get you a new team to root for

No........ I've pointed out many times before that it's not about race....... but when you take over a powerhouse program, and the program's not even coming close to winning championships, it's gotta be the coach. He won in 98 with Pitino's players.

So are you saying that Roy Williams is a bad coach look at how many times when he was at Kansas and got knocked out in the first round of the tourney. Also Billy Donovan must be a bad coach he has only been to Finial Four 2 times.

How could the recruiting be that bad when Jasper, Meeks, and Stevenson are all major contributors this season?

Money, you have nothing to say except "When was the last time Kentucky went to final four"
You seem to forget the parody in today's game. Look at George Mason last season, and the other 59 teams that didn't make the final four. Including UCONN who was favored to win all season. Yet, their fans understand and someone like you doesn't.
Other than Tubby's championship season he has taken his teams to 3 Elite Eights. If not for a couple bad breaks he would have been in the final four.

Besides for that, if he had done good recruiting in previous years, the team would have upperclassmen who would be playing in the spots (I think only Rondo left early for this past draft, so it's not like that's the reason).
If he was that good of a coach and recruiter, then the team, with those new recruits, would be ranked in the top 25.
I've also seen a website that has the top recruits in the country who graduate this spring are looking to go to college, and no one in the top 25 in the country was even considering UK.

No it is you that don't understand what a great coach is. Like I have already said Tubby is one of the best coach's that Kentucky has had. The last time I checked a good winning percentage means that it's a great coach. As you said early that Tubby could not Recruit he must be a good coach for his record to win that many games with all them bad players

Tubby is one of the worst recuiters ever, he has a couple of good players but the rest suck. When u dont recuit a very good player over a bench warmer, then that should tell something of how bad a coach he is

01-04-2007, 09:37 PM
lol yeah uk plays weak teams. Unc, Ucla, Memphis, depaul, Indiana, Louisville in the non confrence, the 3 losses he has this year has came from 3 top 25.
01-04-2007, 09:45 PM
You forgot the other 10 teams...I would tell ya there name but Idk small schools like that
01-04-2007, 09:56 PM
do you know that Uk rpi is 7th in the nation and The strength of schedule is 3rd, and tell me how that is weak, and every other team in the nation has played only few good/decent teams?
01-04-2007, 10:21 PM
Have u been seeing the Teams they play....Besides those 3, which was all loses btw...who else have they played...Houston, Santa Clara, College of Charlston, Miami of Ohio, Chattanoga, Liberty, High Point, Lipscomb, San Diego St.......
01-04-2007, 10:25 PM
and tell me please, what team in the nation is gonna play 14 teams in the top 40, tell me that please?
01-04-2007, 10:34 PM
^ they are no teams that will play 14 in the top 25 but KY should play more then just a couple good teams
01-04-2007, 10:36 PM
Flordia and LSU dont play those teams, well I guess u can understand playing those teams if u dont have any good players or a TEAM
01-04-2007, 10:39 PM
All u hardcore UK Fans, Its ok you can admit to yourself and others that TUBBY is a horrible coach, I promise noone will get mad at u or laugh at ya....You can do it, I promise I wont tell nobody!
01-04-2007, 10:47 PM
stats proves tubby is not a good coach, there is tons of team out there that would love to win 20 games a season, and to make it into the ncaa tourney, but yet all u people sit here and say tubby is a bad coach, how do u say thats a bad coach when u win 20 games a season, ur just used to uk winning national championships, yeah it dissapoints me that they dont win championships, but idc what anyone says, if you win 20+ games a season and finish at the top of ur confrence, they are a good coach to me.
