We had a similar experience at Paintsville in '90 during Basketball season except it started between the players and escalated into the crowd with the fans getting involved. It was really ugly then just like this video. I guess people were a little highstrung during the early '90s when a Paintsville basketball game was going on.

I've been told that they use this video at the Police Academy in Richmond when explaining riot control.

Ok, I'm sorry I guess my brother who is a cop that attended the academy about 2 years ago doesn't know what he's talking about....lol. Maybe they changed it.

I seen this the other day on YouTube.com and thought it was wild... I had never heard of this before one of my friends told me about it... I guess this maybe why Prestonsburg & Paintsville hate each other in sporting events.

I'd say these two schools have always been big rivals, but slacked off a little after the fight. I was discussing with another member that the two schools didn't play eachother for several years...and when the bball did resume people were seated 5 rows back from the court or something like that.
I'd like to see it start back up though, the two schools are only about 12 miles apart...both are usually good in athletics year in and year out, and the location makes travel for the teams and fans easy.

The cop was John Doug Miller who is now the sports director for WKLW.
Wonder why they were going after Jack Pelphrey?

I think that this incident may have been after his time at Paintsville. I was at the Hoops Classic and there were two Pelphrey's on the wall that sits above the home bench. One from '87 that went to Kentucky and the other was either '88 or '89 to East Tenn. State...

It all started because of the ignorance and stupidity of an older man spitting on a high school student from Pburg.

I was there on there on the stage that night. I went to JC but we had heard all day that it was going to happen. The fight had almost settled down when Ray Collins(who is dead now) ran from the other end of the court, jumped the pile and punched or tried to punch the guy being held. You can see him come flying in on the video. Ray was the kid who Johnnie Lemaster took in for a couple of years.
