Mercer Co. has had 3 shutouts and have allowed a total of 128 points in 14 games. Of that 128, only 48 points have been scored on the varsity defense.
There were 5 games this year that the opposing team had fewer than 20 rushing yards when the varsity D left the game, and in 2 of those games they were in negative rushing yards. They have 27 interceptions and have 3 defensive touchdowns.
Does anyone Have stats on Russell?

That should give you more than you wanted to know about the team this year.

Russell has given up 63 points in the AWAY White Jerseys this year in 6 games,, 30 of those points were in the first 2 games and one of those OTx3......56 points inthe rest of the games.... NOW IF YOU LOOK AT THE STARTERS In the game looks like this,....
only 60 points against the starters all season.. in 14 games thats 4.2 points a game for the starters.....nice stats...

Here are some stats for ya:::: Notice the decline in yards....
Rushing Yards by game and in order played.......
Greenup- 141 yards
Ashland-273 yards- 3OT
Boyd--188
Morgan-241 (with 178 coming in 3rd and 4th against 2,3,and freshman)
POwell-38
West Carter- 157
Lewis-67 yards
Estill-152
East Carter- 98 yards
Fleming Co. -31
East Carter- 39 yards (Round1)
Fleming Co.- 13 (round2)
Corbin- 61 yards rushing (round3)
Belfry- 33 yards rushing (round4)
If the numbers dont tell you any thing,, it should smack your face.... Defense has improved over the season as has the offense.. In the last 10 games of the season the Defense has only allowed 68.9 yards rushing per game.....In the last 10.....
Did I also mention that the defense only allows 82 yards passing a game average too for the entire season.
Defense is looking good....

spoke to some of the kids today at school and they seem to think the same thing about Mercer,, same attitude as the Belfry game,, assignments,, assignments and assignments,, no stunts or blitzes,,, 2 deep coverage and let the linebackers knock the snot out of anybody who has a pig in their poke.....
No secrets here boys,, Defense is ready... I saw in a post about the size of Russells defense,, they might look slow but tell that to the backs running the ball...
You gotta meet somewhere and the line of scrimmage is the ideal place, except for one yard behind the line and that of course is just icing on the cake....
Yea we know that Mecer's backs are fast but when you outrun your blocks, things tend to become alittle,, painfull for ya......

I have seen this Defense and man they are good, everyone say there big and slow, I'll just tell you they are not slow because they was on the ball 95% of the time before Belfry RBS even had the ball in there hands

From where I was sitting it looked like they did jump off sides 1 time but I'm not for sure, but as for the rest of the game I never did see them jump off sides. All I got to say is let everyone think they are slow and when they are on the ball before Mercer RBS get it people may change there minds then. Mercer may beat Russell but it will not be a blow out like everyone has said

OK here is my 2 cents on this dead horse. Even if Mercer does walk over Russell that leaves Russell at number 2 in the state in AA. Where are all the rest of the teams at right now. Playing basketball. 2nd place is certainly nothing to be ashamed of. This is the 4th time in 5 years that Russell has went to the state semis. This is the second time in 5 years that Russell will play in the state championship. How many teams out there can say that. To all the haters and doubters out there. Enjoy basketball season.

Like they say ' defense wins championships' Russell's defense is the best that I have seen in a long time very good team speed, good linebackers, and a good secondary. They may not have state track champions but over all the team speed is amazing.

Ok, let's just say, by some odd chance, that Mercer does beat Russell pretty good.... I HOPE THEY DON'T....But let's say they do.... What will be said about Mercer and Russell then?

Doesn't that say enough about the Devils defense by shutting our Belfry @ CAM.

I don't know if it says enough. But it speaks volumes compared to how they started the season.

I watched a lot of football games this year, I wish I would of got to see Russell play. I really don't think I can make it to Louisville with finals.

My son is in the same boat. He said if they played a later game he could possibly make it but definitely not at 11:30.

id like to see russell upset mercer county, but they have way too many weapons. I see mercer winning by 10 points.

you'd think that a team who shutout belfry would get a little more recognition, really...you shut out belfry....thats a hard thing to do...

Russell is a good team, but only good enough to make in a 20 point game IMO.

If I were a betting man. I would say neither team scores 20 points.
This game may set the record for the fastest state title game ever played. I don't mean exaggerated 40 times either.
You are going to see alot of clock eating offense and hard hitting defense from both teams.

It seems it's going to turn out that way from how much these two teams run the ball.... The Q's went by so fast at the Belfry game last Friday it was rediculous

I agree with the time frame.. no running clock but it will go fast..

If Russell take's care of business like they should....It should go by pretty fast for the fan's anyways.... Thing's always go by fast when your having a good time:thumpsup:
